Liverpool

Will they get through tonight and will they beat celtic? (if they get through)

think they will get through both but cant see it being good.

Liverpool

I think Liverpool will win tonight but Celtic will beat them based on current form. If Liverpool play to their potential they will win comfortably but Celtic are a decent side, even though they are weakened without Larsson.

Liverpool

If both get through do they definitely play each other?

Liverpool

what was the final score?

liverpool somehow won 2-0, 3-0 on agg

celtic went 2-0 up away early on, before getting bored and letting stuttgart have a chance. It ended stuttgart 3-2 celtic, celtic winning 5-4 on agg

There was a time when you really used to enjoy watching Liverpool on the box but now I'd rather watch paint dry! They are a piss poor team. IMO Celtic are booked for the semis no problems. Give me Brentford over Liverpool any time!

Liverpool

This might be the turning point hope they beat United on Sunday.

Liverpool

Celtic are my other team (cue abuse from certain other GPGers!), so I'm delighted with last night's results. It is probably the best chance we have had to beat Liverpool in a long time.

Larsson should be back for both games. Celtic will look to establish a lead at Parkhead, where they have been very solid in Europe. It used to be generally accepted that it was better to play the first leg away, keep it tight and then know exactly what you had to do at home in the 2nd leg. But Celtic have played at home in each round of the UEFA Cup this season, and even when we scrapped past Blackburn we raised our game away.

Liverpool's defence is still sound, they just lack goals up front. I reckon it will be a fairly low scoring tie, with one mistake or piece of genius making the difference.

Beforehand, however, Liverpool's confidence could be dented if they lose the Worthington Cup final. Celtic's confidence would also be hit if they lose to Rangers in the league on 8 March (which they won't :)). Then in the course of 8 days Celtic will play Liverpool, Rangers (CIS final) and Liverpool. Should be an exciting week or so!

Liverpool

IMHO I think Liverpool will squeeze through.

Their defence is still solid and Owen looks like he's playing himself back into some sort of form. Celtic will be a different proposition if Larsson is fit. I suppose much of it depends on if Houllier persists with Traore & Diouf both of whom looked absoulutely pony last night. If he picks both well then Celtic have definately got a good shout.

Predictable...

Maybe you can tell us if Yateley Bee has won anymore money on Celtic lately? ;)

Liverpool

I don't like Celtic, but the way Liverpool play they make George Grahams Arsenal look like the most attack minded side ever.
When you have pacy strikers, you use their pace.

Great........great!!!!

I think Celtic have got an even chance of beating Liverpool in the next round. When you consider the two teams from the last time we played each other I think most fair minded people would agree that Celtic have improved significantly whilst Liverpool seemed to have stood still.

Mind you that's not to take anything for granted as we will need to play a lot better than yesterday's game against Stuttgart as in the second half we took our foot off the pedal somewhat.

As the Joker said March is going to be a very interesting and crucial month. :)

I wonder where it all started going wrong for Liverpool. It seems hard to think that they were such a force in European football less than 30 years ago,yet now they appear to be clueless.I do wonder what long term effects Heysel and Hillsborough have had on them though.

When they appointed Houllier methinks..........

Yes hes had some success but he's ripped the heart and soul out of the club by bringing in anonymous players who play boring possession football and rely on scoring on the break.

Everything that made them great, power, passion, belief and positive play has been replaced. They used to have 11 Gerrards on the pitch now they have 1 maybe 2 if you include Murphy.

Celtic will wipe the floor with them.

Liverpool

Not a bad result for Liverpool today...

2-0.

At least they've got Uefa cup entry in the bag for next season (which was by no means guaranteed), and perhaps a decrease in pressure will help them. I know they could still make the Champion's League, but that would all but require them to win every remaining game, which seems VERY VERY unlikely.

Liverpool

Could've started a new thread but decided to use an old one with the same title - had to pick from several though to do so....

So he thinks its a good season eh... potentially finishing BELOW Everton...

It's a good cup season, they will have made some memories. But the only way I can consider it a good season would have been if they had beaten Chelsea and won two cups. A club that size should be challenging at the top, if they narrowly miss out on the top 4 and won the Carling Cup, maybe not a bad season.... but to never even be challenging for anything in the league. They need to up their game, KK needs to get some better signings in the summer.

First time I've ever really seen what others do in JJ Shelvey last night. Never looked much when we he played for Charlton against us but looked a class act against Chelsea reserves last night and a brilliant strike.

Liverpool

I detest Liverpool, always got ideas above their station. They are years behind the top clubs in this country

Each to their own I guess, I prefer to remember the way the scousers applauded our cup heroes after the cup quarter final back in 88-89.

Liverpool

People always say I'm a wacko when I say this, but they're a much better team without Gerrard.

Liverpool

Why is it that whenever Raheem Stirling commits a foul Steve Gerrard is in the refs face trying to avoid a yellow card?

He was lucky to stay on the pitch last week in the Merseyside Derby, and should've been booked today.

Liverpool

That shelvey is well over rated, he's a championship player at best

Liverpool

Liverpool

He's still useless no matter what age. Sterling is 17 and twice the player
