Loans again

My doting mummy sends me up the local press every week and As is quoted as saying that he hopes this is the end of the loans.
I know that the old argument is that sometimes effort can be lacking but surely we need to exploit the old loan market a bit more.
Now for every Turner there are 10 Bennetts but without loans we wouldn't have had the luxury of watching Turner for 2 seasons.

I think what he's getting at is that he doesn't want a situation like last season where we're putting the maximum number of loaness into the squad every single match and that he wants to get players in who we can develop and make a proper part of the team. When you're on loan, I don't think your mind's 100% involved with the squad of players you're out there with.

Loan players on full season terms is actually no different to Newton signing a one year deal, one more would be ok in my book.
Other loans tend to get small squads through an injury crisis and if you get a good one you can hopefully extend their stays.
Our better loaned players have been the ones on longer terms such as Sidwell & Pratley.

The loanees did them a job tho, this is a different season and they should now be able to attract a better calibre player :shrug:

If they are relegated because they didn't replace them, that is their fault

With the loan system & short term signings being the way forward for many lower league clubs. Each season will be a new start. I's still prefer to be where Hereford are now though.

A 5 year plan should not largely rely on loanees to fill lots of gaps. One or two, perhaps three, but not a constant contingent of 5 or 6.

NB,

We have two promising, highly rated youngsters on loan plus 4 new signings that AS targeted, surely that is cause for optimism. Last year we were forced into taking in experienced loanees the week before the season started mainly because we couldn't attract the players we wanted.

Loanees should IMHO be only considered to fill in weak areas or where we cannot get better full timers. I hope that any loanees we bring in are to get us over the line on final promotion push, not so that we can field 11 half decent players every week.

Yeah and we have already have two long loan deals for this season who are highly rated by their clubs but I wouldn't want a team of highly rated but developing youngsters. Sidwell flouished playing alongside expewrienced league players like Evans, Rowlands and Mahon but if he had been alongside his fellow youth team players I think he would have struggled.

For me, It's all about balance and so far I think AS seems to be moving things forward OK and I'm happy to let him get on building the squad he wants within budget and will judge him once the football starts.

And I don't want to see loanees that aren't for the full season given a first 11 squad number. I think your chosen best 11 at the start of the season should get those numbers. But then I am a finnicky Virgo neat freak...
