Someone told me that if London Welsh ever go to the Premier Division then Griffin Park has been mooted as their ground. With the £20m takeover, could this happen?

Is this true!

We could do with the money but the pitch will suffer like when the Bronco's ground shared.

We would never let a bunch of overweight taffs into our ground :nono:

Reading's pitch looks ok despite rugby being played there.

i think it was our pitch which was the problem not the rugby being played on it. Wasn't this one of the reason for relaying it all in the summer?

Rugby Union thrives on corporate hospitality. If GP can't offer it, they'll look elsewhere (which I think was the case with the Broncos).

I had heard that following Reading's promotion, and EPL rules restricting ground sharing with rugby teams.....London Irish would be seeking a new home....I believe they (LI) were given grace (by the EPL) until 2008-ish, as they had a contract with the Madjeski.
Pub talk suggests they would be interested in a new stadium in or around Brentford.

I have argued that there is no viable site, as I see it, but if Reading stay in the English Premier League, London Irish will be looking for something.

It was in the Sunday Times on the RU pages, only a paragraph casually mentioning it...

From that thread, a madman wrote

Here is my theory. The £20m is actually for both us & Brentford FC. Hence the rumours in the Western mail a few weeks ago that we wanted to groundshare with them.

A new West London combined Rugby and wendy ball club with an upgraded Griffin Park which included some hotel/ leisure facilities to match Brentfords new "up and coming" status as the happening place west of Kew Bridge. I can see it all now - a new hybrid creature featuring half Dragon and half Griffin - it all makes sense !

£20mn takeover? I would have thought someone could buy LW for £200k.

London Welsh have been struggling for the last 25 years or so and it will take a huge injection of funds for them to reach and then survive in the top division again. If it was to happen, then for them to share GP would be a good thing, especially for us with Welsh leanings. I'd be in favour of anything that brings in revenue, rugby, hockey, kabbadi, whatever.

Do not let this **** anywhere near our club or our ground!! He is straight-up develpment-only filth. Late last season he sold Oxford U back to some fans but keeps the ground, and is charging rent. He also talked Oxford into a sweetheart deal to develop around the new ground and has made off like a bandit. This guy is Noades' evil twin. :mad2:

It looks like it is Mr Kassam, chap who bought Oxford Utd for £1, built 3/4 of a stadium and sold the Manor ground to himself for £6m

Rumours from the Welsh chap at work is that he is trying again.

The original Western Mail piece on this was a couple of months ago, and was never actually in the Western Mail itself, but appeared as speculation among fans on a chatroom attached to the paper. London Welsh issued a flat denial straight away.
Seeing as London Welsh are still an amateur club, they wouldn't be allowed any near the Premiership. Down is the more likely direction, if any, for the club in its current guise.
The only way any of this could have any plausibility is if Welsh to get taken over, turn professional and need to play at a bigger ground. If so, I think they would be more likely to opt out of English rugby and join the Welsh or Celtic League.

Their decline happened after a certain Paddock season ticket holder retired. That is a FACT :D
