Long range goals

anyone else remember Keith Hooker's effort from New Road touchline v Notts County?
Bit of a cross cum shot but it flew in

Long range goals

Jamie Bates from the half way line at Notts County.
In the wrong net though:nono:

Used to be a great picture of the keeper Mike Rose diving backwards as the sliced cross went over him into the next - class!

Long range goals

Peter Gelson scored a freekick from inside his own half against Swindon town goalkeeper Peter Downsborough.

I chose this match for Northampton Bee's book for various reasons. This goal was a centre that caught the wind though unlike Lee Luscombe's effort against Charlton which I'm pretty sure he intended.

If Danis Salman against Liverpool....then this thread is closed (that post is still vibrating).

Long range goals

Evans against Preston & Burnley.
Grainger vs. Cambridge in the 3-3 game - player got booked for dissent before the free kick and the sent off for a second yellow after it was scored if I remember rightly - by Graham Poll when he still had his creepy slicked back hair.
Marcus Gayle vs Exeter (h) 91/92.
Ben Burgess vs. Brighton (although I couldn't tell you how far out he actually was, but a great volley).

Didn't Mark Williams score a screamer against someone as well - I'm thinking Stoke, but that sounds wrong...

Long range goals

David Hunt scored a very good one last year vs Gillingham.

....and Wycombe.

Martin Grainger's was pretty good. His first goal for us was a free kick from near the right hand touch line. It flew into the top corner from an acute angle. If memory serves, Brian Statham scored his first goal for us in the same game. Cambridge may have been the opponents but I'm not sure about that.

Sounds about right to me.

Heard a story once about a Grainger free kick at an away game, maybe Crewe.

Allegedly it was hit with the customary power but somewhat lacking in direction.
The ball sailed out of the ground, hit a chimney on a house which promptly fell down.

Sure its not true but can any one confirm it?

I've heard that story as well.

I hope it is true.

.....................a two yard tap-in at Elland Road is just as good...................

Pretty sure that's a mythical embellishment about a penalty he took for us when we were away to Farnborough in an FA Cup replay. We won 4-0, it would've been 5 except he hit a penalty so far over the bar it went out of the ground and stuck in a tree outside the ground!! lol

Screamers - Paul Evans scored a great left-footer against Walsall at GP, and his free kick against Peterborough in the "free" game was special. Kev's volley at home to Wrexham was a belter, right in the top corner and about 100mph.

Evans scored another screamer with his leftie against Swansea in the last home game of the Championship team in 99.

Carl Asaba scored a winner against Gillingham in 96 from near the touchline that was pretty amazing, although he should never have been shooting from there!

Long rangers - Folan's against Cambridge has already been mentioned, but he also scored from about 35 yards against Leyton Orient. Keeper probably should've saved it but it swerved so much he couldn't.

Evans scored from ridiculously far out v Chester in '99, put us 2-0 up in the fourth minute.

I remember Ijah scoring a beauty in the last minute against Hull at Boothferry Park on a Tuesday night to win the game 1-0; not sure it was ever on any goals of the season vids. Anyone remember?

Long range goals

Got to agree that Barry Tucker's goal in a windy, rainy Somerton Park was quite an effort!

From recent times, Alan Bennett's goal from the wide right against Bford Cty I think, was pretty spectacular.

Didn't Ijah also score a long-range screamer in that game?

Long range goals

Just come across this very entertaining thread. Own goal - Ben Arentoft of Blackburn Rovers for us ?1970s. Also Dave Metchick scored a few screamers at that time I thought he had the hardest shot of that group of players. I also remember excellent control by AS as a player against Cardiff, controlled left foot, shot from edge of the box by right foot (might have been other way around) whilst on the run.

Long range goals

Should have added when Paul Evans scored from the halfway line v. Preston, all 4 goals were pretty tasty!

pretty sure that was with his right. just controlled it from a throw-in and spanked it in. best goal i've ever seen live. sadly, i've missed most of the rest posted here

I've been lucky enough to see all the home goals mentioned, I think. Trouble is, as usual, I can only recall one or two of them. What a bunch of ruddy elephants you lot are!

Free Kick outside box when we were down to 10 men, ball sailed out of ground cleared road and hit chimney pot on houses other side of road, unfortunately I can confirm that said chimney did not fall down however it was, I am sure, severley bruised!!
