I did think the same however biting is like spitting, it is what a filthy little rat does who isn't brave enough to stand up to you. However I agree the tackling in this competition that has gone unpunished has pretty much led to open season. Now you are allowed dish out 1 to 2 good leg breakers before you get booked and then you are pretty much safe to do what you like as the second yellow isn't allowed in case it ruins the spectacle. Which one is really worse?

Thanks, Mr T, very interesting article.

I can sympathise with a 16 y.o. kid who's desperate to escape poverty and make a life for himself (even if I've never experienced anything remotely like it myself). And I could understand, even forgive, actions like the headbutt on the Referee.

But three points remain lodged in my mind:
1. He's no longer 16;
2. He's no longer desperate;
3. Whether they escaped or are still there, plenty of others shared his background without going off the rails.

And even then, I might be prepared to sympathise with Suarez, if there was any evidence that he felt contrition or remorse after the Red Mist has evaporated and he's had time to think about his actions in the cool, clear light of day.

But in the end, he knows his value as a goalscorer protects him from having to address his "issues", which is why he doesn't give a damn, even when he trashes the game which saved him in the first place and made him a millionaire.

No sympathy.

I don't think anyone is asking for sympathy for him.....

He is what he is and there is no excuse for his behaviour in this instance or the three or four instances beforehand. What the article does is give context and background. Doesn't mitigate but it an interesting and thought provoking article as to his psyche.

You are right that he is no longer 16 or desperate and others world class players have trodden his path without resorting to his shennanigans but no matter hat riches and adulation come his way I guess part of him is still the poverty stricken kid from the poor side of town.

He needs to really get a grip of his behaviour before his notoriety overshadows his talent- I think it has for many already.

Ban seems about right, possibly a little harsh on his club career, If he is not allowed to train even with his club he is unlikely to be back much before December I would have thought.

Uruguay are making the same mistake as Liverpool did over the Evra affair. By closing ranks , putting an arm round him and accentuating his national hero status they are effectively condoning what he did, how is the child in him going to realise what is right or wrong. He will no doubt feel he has been harshly done by and this could lead to further repeat behaviour.

Compare this with Beckham's sending off at the world cup which was followed by national disgrace status back home, he has been quoted as saying this made him grow up and develop as the role model he became for behaviour.

Anyway,Suarez is one total idiot who has let everyone down who has supported him through his trials and tribs.

Problem is that he feels that he has not done anything wrong,but I wonder what his Uruguayan team mates feel about him now they are out.Think we will never know.

I can understand feelings of loyalty on Merseyside as well as feelings of disbelief and anger.Remember Cantona ?? Many said Matt Simmons deserved it.

It didn't just effect people from Liverpool either.
My mate was killed at Hillsborough, aged 21 and came from Ealing and went to school in Northfields.
He is buried in Greenford and his death was a shock that ran through our local area.
The Ealing Gazette did an article on Joe McCarthy a few weeks ago.
Certainly not something anyone should joke about.

I think the difference is that a whole lot (majority?) of Uruguayans seem to have defended Suarez, even when it is the third time, whereas I have no doubt the overwhelming majority of Britons condemn "our" biter's (unprecedented) assault.

In fact, whatever else one thinks of the England players' performances, they were generally reasonably sporting, with little fouling, diving or cheating etc. And this one terrace incident excepted, I've not heard any reports of serious misbehaviour by the 4k England fans out there.

Sounds like wording agreed with lawyers - stop accusing Chielini of faking the bite marks and apologise to him, but don't acknowledge you did it deliberately

If there was a likelihood of Chielini suing, maybe.

But seeing as Chielini subsequently reckoned the ban was excessive, that seems highly unlikely.

Sounds to me to be much more the case that his Agent advised Suarez that Barcelona would require some sort of "apology" before they would sign him, and this was the very most that Suarez would agree to.

It's short of admitting any wrong but apologising anyway to probably reduce his penalty on appeal ( which I think they will), he can then play before November!

I think its quite a pathetic statement to be honest and he has been badly advised.
