Tweet from verified journalist suggests we have joined the race to sign Danish midfielder Lukas Lerager from Genoa. Torino also interested:

Over 6 foot, 27 years old. In the Norgaard mould. Hope he’s not got a more serious injury than originally feared.

Don't think he's a defensive midfielder.

Lukas Lerager

Played for Zulte Waragem the same year as our own Henrik Dalsgaard. Also has the same agent, as does Mads Bech and Andreas Bjelland.

Lukas Lerager

Strong connections with Dalsgaard - they played together at AB in Denmark and Zulte Waragem in Belgium.

Lukas Lerager

Happy to bolster the squad and looks like would be an experienced decent addition . Hope it’s a goer.?

Lukas Lerager

Is he currently injured, doesn’t seem to have been in the Genoa squad recently.

Lukas Lerager

In terms of the quantity of players that we have, central midfield isn't a priority to strengthen - but in terms of quality, it's an area we can improve and certainly we'll need to if we get promoted. It's something we're obviously looking at, going back to the Bannan rumours.

Lukas Lerager

I'd imagine it'd be more likely that it was Marcondes related.. ?
Seems more likely. If there's anything to this it maybe just a case of an opportunity opening up to potentially strengthen CM for next season and a bonus for this, especially if Marcondes talks have stalled. And of course another step towards being the only side outside of Denmark to have had half the Danish national side playing for them.

We've been linked with Pearson, Styles etc so I think TF maybe wants more aggression in midfield. Jensen, Marcondes, DaSilva, and Ghoddos are all attacking options who offer little in terms of breaking up play. Would be good to have the option of a dynamic pressing number 8, or maybe another holding player who could free Janelt to play that role. Just guesswork though.

A SuperYennaris? I think Yearwood was the last candidate to fall short.

Looks like journo's putting 2 and 2 together.

Danish.

Links with Dalsgaard.

Hopefully Whoscored havent rated him correctly
Generally I struggle to disagree with their ratings on our players. Even Vitaly at Bochum had average Season ratings of 7.05(16/17), 6.69, 6.48, 6.66(19/20)
Context is all. His current season rating of 6.37 is playing in Serie A for a relegation battling side. That will translate well to the Championship. Plus, At Bordeaux he hit 6.8.

First time i saw him was as a 15 year old, a very talented player. Since then his career slowed a little, but after a year in viborg, he went to Belgium with suces, moved on to Bordeaux and then to Genoa..
I think he can play most of the midfield positions. He can be the defensive anchor, and he can be the more offensive. His not a player like Mathias Jensen who can create the long passes, but more controlling in the fast small played passes. When he was younger, he hac the ability to sneak in to the penalty area and scoring goals, that is not something he has shown the last couples of years, but i think in our way of playing he can find back to that again.
Imo a signing of Luccas is goodbye to Marcondes, and i think he is a player who will suit us when we are in the PL next season.

I have a close friend in Italy who is a Genoa fanatic. He said Lukas has played ok for Genoa since he joined, not brilliant but not bad. He described him as a player who is very strong and will run all day but not technically brilliant
Apparently Genoa have recently signed a Dutch International who will take his place so Lukas agent searching for new club for him.
Suggested Genoa are hoping to get back the 5 or 6 million they paid for him, not sure if that is realistic in the current market

Lukas Lerager

Does Brexit not play into this? Does he warrant a visa? How does it work now?

Does he not have sufficient U21 pedegree to be OK with the new rules ?

Lukas Lerager

St George cross too , great badge

I bought their top many moons ago. Once I was wearing it walking back home from a Bees game and just past the 6 Bells pub a car load of Italians shouted dogs abuse at me from their car as it drove past!

Well, I assume it was dogs abuse as I don't speak much Italian. It certainly didn't sound complimentary!! ?

"Clever player. Makes good late runs into the box, is a composed finisher. He's more direct than anything but has a bit of everything about him as a central midfielder. Good addition if it happens"

An input from someone who watches a lot of italian football.

Sounds like the comments on Maupay and Benrhama on signature and lets not forget Norgaard and Jensen flunked totally in Italy. I trust the system

Lukas Lerager

This would be an impressive signing. Played at the top level all through his career in a number of leagues. He has recently been involved with the Danish National Team.

Was purchased for 6m.

Yes please

Lukas Lerager

If and hope we do sign this guy. How will the closing of our boarders affect the lad joining up with the Squads

If he's a composed finisher, Genoa can't make many chances as he's only scored twice!

Lukas Lerager

Genoa have signed Manolo Portanova, an attacking midfielder, from Juve, in what looks like a complex deal with a young Genovse going the other way at the end of the season.

So’s Josh on the basis of what we saw last season and he’s also only scored twice this season!

Lukas Lerager

Still can’t get over the fact we are being linked with players from Serie A. I know the league isn’t what it once was, but growing up watching Gazetta Football Italia, when we were lumping it with chesterfield, Carlisle etc the thought we’d sign someone with that pedigree was beyond imagination

My Danish colleague tells me: "A solid player and a good fighter. Price dependent it could be a good one, both in terms of selling on and if you manage to go up. He has Premiership level in him for sure."

Lukas Lerager

Really hope this doesn’t mean Norgaard has injured himself again though. Would’ve thought the priorities are a winger and centre back.

Norgaard did a zoom call with the sports trust last night and said he will be back in full training in 2 weeks

Lukas Lerager

Perhaps, as has been indicated elsewhere, its one of those occasions when the right player just becomes available and even if the immediate need is not there we go for it.

Marcondes is most likely leaving at the end of the season but we also need additional bodies to get us over the line this season so this indeed looks like an early move that might have happened over the summer.

So this makes it sound more likely, we're missing that box to box player to help move the ball forward but also put a foot in where required. A more attack minded Ryan Woods if you like, someone who rotates the ball and keeps play going at tempo.. Certainly has plenty of experience and would fit the requirement of being able to slot straight in you'd imagine..
