Lyle Taylor

Charlton fans I know think we are still after Taylor in January. Can’t see it myself but who knows.

It may depend on if we lose anyone, of if another player becomes available to bring in. We are in a better position now than at the beginning of the season concerning the CF role, and we won't be held to ransom. A lot can happen between now and January, so who knows.

I would of thought we could do better ? He was a last minute try to buy after Neal left late in the window

I doubt it very much, he’s not played any first team minutes since he came back injured from the first International Break

Lyle Taylor

He’s out of contract in July so Charlton will surely sell him in January.

If we are challenging then I would be delighted to bring him in to strengthen the squad.

If Watkins and Said carry on with their current form we are highly likely to have striker vacancies in jan.

If Watkins and Said carry on with their current form, we are highly likely to be in the top four by the end of the year and totally uninclined to release our star players.

I don't know if their contracts specify they can go if our valuation is reached. If yes that's it. We might be uninclined but the system will go into action. After today we might not need to worry too much.

He's been I hired hasn't he?

As long as we stay away from Lyle Taylor. Judging by his tweets last couple of days wouldn’t want a footballer like that at our club

Were they that bad? Agree politics is a silly subject for anyone to engage in on Twitter but hardly said anything that means I wouldn't want him at our club ffs!

Not good conflating a higher tax rate for high earners with the notion that this money would solely be used by the treasury to allow 'entities to piss it down the drain'.

Think he needs to get his shooting boots back on and sign a new contract with the Addicks.

Not quite a Ched Evans or the Derby assholes who drove their cars whilst p1ssed though?. I think for someone to state they wouldn't want him at our club for his tweets is a bit OTT.

Anyway back to topic.

I think the club have a policy of not signing bellend's ...... Taylor fits into the category.

Lyle Taylor

I disagree. Reading his tweets he simply has a brain and opinions which he has expressed.

Good job you weren't good enough to be a pro then as you're acting rather like one with your view of him....

He's just expressing an opinion based on his personal circumstances, then realised that his Twitter followers are quite binary in their own political beliefs. He seems quite literate for a footballer.

That was my thoughts. It's got nothing to do with what his political leanings are, nor my own, but to say he's a bellend and not welcome at the club for stating his political opinion is more a reflection of the person making the original statement in my 'opinion'.

I’m on Tony Watts side, myself. Pointless castigating a crocked footballer on the sick with a scheme 99% of workers would love to have. As he says, he kicks a ball. He’s not Ched Evans or John Fashanu etc as Doovster pointed out.

rofl really?

If I was a pro, I certainly wouldn't go on twitter with my profile pic holding up a cancer charity shirt but arguing I wouldn't want to pay more tax, the irony huh .... or calling some of my own supporters thicko

He is a decent lad from what I have seen and heard who has expressed an opinion about not paying more tax, nothing particularly contentious. I am sure our DoF are not short sighted enough to base any such decisions purely on this and actually might like the fact that he is engaging in a political discussion, shows he might think on a different level to some of his peers. The couple of interviews I have seen him do I think he comes across very well.

Getting away from topic, but someone who engaged Lyle Taylor on his opinions in a respectful way was labelled a 'thicko' . He's allowed his opinions, but he's not articulated himself well, and Tony Watt made him look a bit foolish too.

Personally I wouldn't want Lyle Taylor here at the club based on the fact he's not worth what Charlton were asking for (£3 to 4million), his contract runs out in 6 months, and by the time we'd bought him he'd pretty much be 30 and would offer virtually zero resale value

Would prefer to wait and see what Dervisoglu can offer -- although I don't think he's necessarily an out and out striker -- or bring Forss back from loan. I think the DOFs will have moved on from Taylor come the January transfer window, not that it should bother him... as someone like Derby or Birmingham will match his wages with a nice signing-on fee no doubt.

I know this is off topic but whilst Lyle Taylor would have been welcome we really missed a trick in not signing Grant from Charlton in January.

I know we looked at him but decided to pass and he signed for Huddersfield for relative peanuts. His value now has to be at least 5 times what they paid for him.

He held the ball up well and was clinical yesterday. He had two chances. A Right foot shot in the corner which forced a great save and a left foot thunderbolt into the far corner for the winner.

I know we still had Maupay and had Grant signed he might not have played much last season and perhaps we also felt that we were going nowhere in January so decided not to strengthen.

Assuming Grant would have preferred to sign for us rather than Huddersfield which is at least likely given their certain relegation we could also have loaned him back to Charlton and then got him back for this season when he would have been a perfect replacement for Maupay.

Lots of ifs and buts and of course Watkins has done brilliantly but for my part I’d far prefer to have both Ollie and Grant in the squad.

called him a typical tory...some may call watt typical labour. ...personally id rather not have him here as he'll be an expensive wage and offer no sell on value

So because a bloke, who I'm guessing is a 45% income tax payer, says he would rather not pay more tax on his earnings makes him not welcome at Brentford in your book.

How do you know what he does or does not gift to charity?

I find it strange you would label someone as someone who would not be welcome at Brentford because he doesn't want to pay more than 45% income tax and has the front to hold up a cancer charity shirt.

I wouldn't want the Derby drunks anywhere near our club but I find your strength of feelings, from a purely objective point of view, towards Lyle Taylor a tad strange.

I think a lot of us thought that of Pontus, but he's turned out alright.

As mentioned above, seems like a dickhead based on recent tweets, and given our ‘no dickheads’ policy, seems like a non starter. Next.

Some of Lyle's tweets for those of you, who don't do twitter..

Not sure if this post goes against the "no politics rule" delete if necessary:shrug:

There’s not a lot wrong with what he’s posted?

I won’t go into too many specifics as I don’t want to get into a political argument when that not what I’m looking for...

I'm not veering into the politics either, I simply don't understand why some consider him a 'dickhead' and wouldn't want him at Brentford because he has an opinion?

Lyle Taylor

Playing devil’s advocate; Would he have the same opinion re higher rate tax payers had he not “made it” as a footballer?

The accusation could be that he is pulling up the drawbridge after he was able to cross it, preventing others from doing so.

Irrespective of whether you agree, the opinion is hardly one worth demonising him over.

I can only assume that there are some who believe that a footballer should only have opinions about football. It all seems a bit peculiar to me.

I had no opinion on him previously but I quite like him now; he does seem to have a higher IQ than many players.

I’m between his not being employed as a financial person and his assumption of a four day week for footballers which is frankly a bit dim and dimmer and him seeming to call the next prime minister a fool on that basis. Fine. He’s still crocked and Halil isn’t.

Lyle Taylor

Taylor is right though isn’t he?
I’m sure all of us, with probably one obvious exception, wouldn’t fancy paying more tax.

Oh, my sides are aching.

Everything is political to a degree.
We have a “Blacklist” one which has been commented on by “admin” without being taken down.
One about the poor 39 economic migrants.
Where do you draw the wavy line.

Lyle Taylor

You can’t really discuss his tweets without taking a political stance, so I expect the mods will close this thread.

But before that happens I’d just like to say, having a political leaning doesn’t make someone a dickhead. Therefore I seriously doubt it would cause him to fail any ‘no dickhead test’.

He’s injured, nearly 30 and has 6 months left on his contract. Charlton have Macauley Bonne banging them in currently. I suspect they will want to shift him for whatever they can get in January.

Like Lyle Thomas has learnt, best not to do politics...
