M3 tonight....

Anyone know if the M3 is back to normal tonight?

I can’t make head or tail of the highways agency website and every time I’ve used the M3 through sunbury after a game (in the last year or so) I’ve been diverted off at jct2 and end up having to go north on the m25. Then taking M4 to get back to Southampton via Reading.

M3 tonight....

It looks like all the drama is at the top end on the Eastbound (London) side, with lane closures and junction closures from 4 to 2.

Westbound, there's only one lane closed until J4, where there's 3 lanes closed to 4A.

Location : The M3 westbound between junctions J1 and J2 . Lane Closures : Lane one will be closed. Reason : Roadworks are planned. Status : Pending. Schedule : Expect disruption everyday between 22:00 and 05:00 from 21 November 2017 to 24 November 2017. Schedule : From 23:00 on 24 November 2017 to 05:00 on 25 November 2017. Lanes Closed : There will be one of three lanes closed.

Location : The M3 westbound between junctions J2 and J3 . Reason : Roadworks scheme. Status : Currently Active. Period : from 20:01 on 15 November 2017 to 05:30 on 22 December 2017.

Location : The M3 westbound between junctions J4 and J4A . Lane Closures : Lanes 1, 2 and 3 will be closed. Reason : Roadworks are planned. Status : Pending. Schedule : From 20:00 on 21 November 2017 to 05:30 on 22 November 2017. Schedule : From 20:00 on 11 December 2017 to 05:30 on 12 December 2017. Lanes Closed : There will be three of four lanes closed.

M3 tonight....

I was looking at this earlier and noted that the roadworks between J2 and J3 do not mention how many lanes are closed on that stretch. Hopefully it's only 1 or 2 rather than a full closure as it would be nice to get home before midnight on a Tuesday night for once!

M3 tonight....

Cheers squire. Looks good...

... I would't go that far! No doubt there will be the usual suspects driving their wife's 4x4 schoolrunner that fail to notice the 5m high signs and flashing arrows!

Usually, "Roadworks scheme" means only short stretches with one or two lanes closed by the trucks with big arrows.

I don't "think" they're operating full night closures anymore, just the odd lane.

jlove's answer is what I worked out too, but like you I wish the HA website was a bit easier to decipher. And why can't they use the info boards to put up details during the day of closures later that night?

After one evening game last season I drove all the way from J2 to around Winchester without seeing another car heading westbound. I'm still not sure whether I inadvertently dodged a road closure. Got home in record time though!

M3 tonight....

Hopefully you're both right, but I'm not counting my chickens as a long stretch of the M3 was closed for the last Tuesday night game v Derby (and the one before that v Bristol C, IIRC).

Hear hear!

M3 tonight....

That could have been for works on the new Woodlands Rd bridge rather than on the M3 itself
I suspect that it may have been for both of those reasons as, IIRC, it was closed from J2 to J6!

The small, mobile signs often have information but it's always regarding the direction you're travelling in, not the return side!

Oh ok .. maybe it was for M3 then .. so frustrating trying to get home late at night .. there are still M3 diversion signs all over the A30 through Camberley, so there must still be night closures going on on certain nights

M3 tonight....

Avoid Twickenham rd. in Isleworth, if you can.

They're doing something around the junction with South Street, and the traffic has been dreadful, all day.

267 users may need to leave a little earlier than usual.

M3 tonight....

From what I can make out M3 should finally be open tonight. However if you get on M25 at Staines don't take any notice of the M3 diversion signs up the A30 as they never take them down even when the motorway is open. Hopefully home before midnight tonight rather than 30 minute diversion

It's been like that since yesterday. Took me forty five minutes to get through from the Chertsey road. It's worse this time of evening. I think Hounslow council are taking the p*ss and just dig up the road there every so often for no reason at all.

M3 tonight....

M3 clear apart from a section down to one lane. But M27 closed with a diversion miles through the New Forest. Home at 1240. Bah!

M3 tonight....

Back in Chandlers Ford by 23:10 - perfect. My youngest got up for school with no problem at all...

Thanks for the warning. I went that way, and the road was almost empty because all the Bees fans had gone other ways.

If you live in Pompey as your moniker suggests it sounds like you turned off at the wrong M3/M27 intersection. More fool you.

I think I know my way home - to Dorset - from Brentford by now! Headed west from the end of the M3 onto the M27, which was closed at junction 2 so that I couldn't take the A31. The diversion was via the A35 through Lyndhurst and on to Bournemouth via Christchurch. No signs forewarning of the closure when I went up during the day - not that there would have been a better way back from London anyway.
