Malcolm McPherson

Played for Bees from 96-98. Left to join Dorchester Town, then of the Southern Premier. Dropped out of the game and moved to New Zealand in 2002. He now focuses on coaching and bringing through young players in NZ and getting them college scholarships in the US. He is also a development officer for the Northern Football Federation, overseeing football on the north island. He previously coached at Waitakere United (in the NZ top division) and Waitakere City.

Players like him were the reason I gave up supporting Brentford for a while. That and the Crewe game at Wembley.

Seems a bit harsh on a guy who was probably low cost and hardly featured for us. Though I think I understand your underlying point that we were at that time signing too many players who weren't remotely good enough - the odd gamble on a non-league player or guy well down the pecking order at a bigger club is OK, but that's all we were getting for a while.

Followed Gus Hurdle into the team iirc. Hurdle was in fact, a far better player for us!

MM came from West Ham I believe, where he was originally a forward. Sadly he showed very little for us & left pretty quickly. Glad to see he has made a good life for himself.

Sad as it seems but all I really remember about McPherson was his sticky out ears:(.

Maybe that's what held his footballing career back.
