Man U woes

I know exactly how to cure all of Manchester United's woe's.
1 Increase the capacity of Old Trafford to 120,000 in order to accommodate their legions of loyal fans from all over the world so they can see their first home game of their life.
2 Bring three new kits out every month to raise much needed funds.
3 Spend another half a billion on not at all overrated prima-donna's.
Hay presto! your back on top of the world again.

If they did that, they'd have to massively increase their WiFi capacity, with that many people constantly Tweeting and posting selfies on Facebook for 90+ minutes.

All joking apart Old Trafford needs a rebuild or a new Stadium.
The club also needs some one who knows what they are doing and player recruitment is in a mess.
The hierarchy at Manchester United are clueless in its position and that is echoing all the way down to the first team.
I am not sure if it is worse than 72/73/74,but it is reminding me of those days.
We asked the question how many Utd players from last Saturday would get into our team?
Ask yourself how many of Uniteds players from their squad would get in and it is not many if any at all on current form.

I went on a ground tour there almost 2 years ago with a Man U supporting mate and was gobsmacked how run down the place was ...it made Griffin Park look like Wembley... :ROFLMAO:
The whole place needs mega updating as it is so outdated for a club that purports to be one of the biggest in the world.

I doubt they'll get relegated and spend 74 years out of the top flight but things are bad ?. They have a challenge due to City's wealth and decision making; their fans will not really accept things are good until they win the league again, which looks impossible this decade.

It would just take a change in direction from being solely a commerical business to a football club again, and you'd see a big change within a year or two; the crowds and income they receive is still unbelievable.

Pre Ronaldo it did look like they were making progress, at least they were building a young team, qualifying for top 4 and playing in European finals, that commerical decision overturned all that good work.

They need to forget about playing good football as they simply do not have the players for it and just focus on becoming hard to beat for a while.

If that means playing five at the back and scrapping their way some 1-0's and 0-0's then so be it.

Of course their delusional, entitled fans will not accept that though and the manager has no proven track record of playing that way, so expect this comedy show to continue for some time :sorted:

I think ETH needs to look at Arteta at Arsenal and be backed to be tough in changing the playing culture and set up. He tried against Brighton by doing the right thing in dropping CR7 but then weirdly replaced him up top with CE. Get the shape right and use the available players who can be trusted to work at it to play. Let the names who think they’re too big for that rot or leave. Accept that the rebuild if done properly might well involve finishing 14th this season and not challenging top 4 for another couple of seasons.

I am Absolutely overjoyed that Man U are in trouble, and sincerely hope they never recover.
Its payback time for all the ghastly players who we have had to endure over the years...
Psycho Keane, Fatboy Rooney, Mad Zlatan, sex-pest Giggs, druggy Rio, incoherent alcoholics Robbo & Butch, Poster boy Ronaldo, Diving cheat Ruud, Evil Hughes, leg breaker Scholes, I could go on and on. And of course, the totally unacceptable Alex Ferguson.
The Present woes couldnt happen to a 'nicer' club. Hope they rot in hell.

I agree with everything you wrote, but one player United took from Brentford who as a small boy I loved watching. That was Stewart Houston.

A good spell in the lower divisions would do them the world of good. I can only hope. The way the pundits on TV talk is like the world will end next week.

Yes indeed I am! I have no experience running a football club of any size, I live 12,000 miles away, I dislike Man u and all their fake fans.
So I instantly didn't apply for the job I didn't know was going, and they snapped me up!

Gary Neville’s list of successful/unsuccessful players at MU. Green is good, Amber is ok, red is bad.

I reckon if you gave Sir Matthew, PG and Thomas Frank the red players, we‘d have won the premier league in the first season and the CL within another two years.

Is Neville who talks sense trying to tell us all the red players, many of who were World class have been fakes who were found out at United?
I’d suggest the structure, strategy and culture is flawed and currently it ruins great players?

If we're being really honest, a few from the red section should be in the amber. Harsh to put Amad in there too.
I know the owners (rightfully) get a lot of grief for the money they take out of the club, but they've backed pretty much every manager with serious amounts of money to make the signings the managers want. The biggest problem is the majority of those players are only choosing to go to United because they've offered the most money

Harsh to put Mata in Red, too - he is a class act and a decent bloke, too. probably should've gone somewhere else a long time ago, though.

What a strange post. That’s a list of world class players together with the most successful ever manager in British football.

To be fair how the F&£% are maguire £80MIL and shaw £30mil even Amber. Mourinho was the last time utd were half decent and shaw was training with the u17s

Not a strange post to me, there was, and is, a lot to dislike about Manchester United, starting with Alex Ferguson and moving down.

Glazers look at the business model, they have appointed numerous managers in an effort to appease the fans. They seemingly don’t have any cohesive plans going forward and instead let each individual manager submit their shopping list and, as such have spent a small fortune

The players they have brought in, by and large, seem to be more interested in the ludicrous salaries which drives out all necessity to impress and put in effort

A basket case of a club where blame can be showered on everyone from the players up, it needs a root and branch operation with the majority of the players being sold or contracts terminated, however that is probably to big a financial hit.

Can’t see them getting back to the heady heights until football becomes the primary business of the club and not the stock exchange

I'll be honest. The 4-0 to us in some ways reminded me of the Palace 5 Utd 0 match that I was at in around 1971. I went back to it and - yep. To be fair, United were abysmal that day. In fact it could have been 10. It's worth watching the horribly pixellated footage to see some greats such as Don Rogers, the late Yogi Hughes, Alan Whittle and others tearing Man U a new one, Some great stuff, especially for United haters. Give it a go and have a laugh.




And it doesn't get any better for United. Pala U-21s beat their youth team 5-1 a few days ago.

Some good players and some awful ones too.
When they beat United iirc they were both bottom 3.
I think George Best retired the previous month too.
He made a comeback 12 months later before calling it a day at QPR on new years day 1974.
I have that programme as well.

As some of you know, I watched Palace a lot between 1970 and 1976, and some matches up until 1980, as they had been near my school and my best friend was a big fan. 2 wins in the first 15 games didn't help. Nor did 2 wins in the last 14 games.

I knew they would go down when they finally won a match against another London club, beating Chelsea 2-0. They had failed in each of the previous 15 derbies in the First Division.

Palace that season had two truly international class players: Jackson and Rogers.

A few First Division class players: Whittle, Hughes, Mel Blyth and Charlie Cooke.

A couple of players who could do it when they fancied it: Phillip and Possee.

A former Palace hero who just broke through towards the end of the season: Jim Cannon.
A couple of players who were over the hill - McCormack, Tambling.

And a whole bunch of people who went on to do not very much.

When they played, they were very good. Most of the time they were awful. I remember the away win at WBA: I think Palace played Whittle and new signing Possee up front. Titchy players. They scored 2 each and that was pretty much it for the season.

Yes, our former youth player. Jacko was a really good keeper: safe in the air and brave. He was badly treated the next season, I recall. Malcolm Allison took over, and decided that youngster Paul Hammond would take over from Jackson - Hammond had only played a couple of first team games up until then. Hammond was on a hiding to nothing as Jackson was so popular with the fans, not surprisingly after 346 games.

Big Mal made four atrocious decisions right at the start of the season. That was number one.
2) He decided that he wanted to give his wingers room, so he increased the pitch width by around 5 yards on either side. The first game was at home against Notts County, and they loved the extra space. Final score Palace 1 Notts Co 4.
3) He claimed that Palace would win Division 2 at a canter. Palace were relegated for the second season in a row.
4) Most horrifyingly, he gave each player a nickname which was them printed on the back of their tracksuit. I can't recall them all, but Paul Hammond was nicknamed The Cage and left winger/full back Tony Taylor was called The RoadRunner. Others were: Charlie Cooke - The Card Shuffler, George Graham - The Stroller, Rachid Harkouk The Spider (though I am not sure if that was on his tracksuit..

Hideous thinking, and it gets worse. I've just checked, and some of the others were:
Dave Swindlehurst - The Problem.
Mel Blyth was Masterpieces
Nick Chatterton: Interceptor
Bobby Bell: Blockbuster

Oh God oh god oh god - it still embarrasses me to think of it!

How Big Mal became so revered as a coach I don't know,. I've heard that one tactic he seriously considered using was having all ten outfield players gather round the ball then move upfield in a huddle, keeping the ball in the middle.
