To me the old season finishes when everything has been sorted.

In other words after the play off finals.

Season finished and before new season it's called the "closed season"

Managerial Thread 2018 / 2019

I take the end of the season as June 30th as that is when contracts expire

Managerial Thread 2018 / 2019

It always used to be the close season until it became Americanised (as "closed" is the term they use over there).

Agreed although predictive text added the d at the end!!!

My daughter has just been appointed as manager of The Cunning Linguists in the World Cup Fantasy League Competition. As chairman, I am delighted to welcome her on board. Whilst not equipped with a great deal of experience at this level, she comes with an encyclopaedic knowledge of world footballers; a sound tactical brain; and the drive and enthusiasm commensurate with this important position. Wibs and others in the league should be worried. Very worried.

PS I hadn't originally planned to make this appointment and am now looking into the technical aspect of changing the team name before she asks me any questions.

Joey Barton about to become Fleetwood's manager.

Managerial Thread 2018 / 2019

I see the start of the new season from the moment you refer to the most recent campaign naturally as 'last season' rather than 'this season', I'm still in the mindset of the latter...

Managerial Thread 2018 / 2019

Barton is on a hiding to nothing. How can he install discipline when he has none of his own?

Managerial Thread 2018 / 2019

I've got a sneaking suspicion he'll do ok (Barton)

It appears Darren Ferguson has resigned from his role as Doncaster Rovers FC Manager.
This statement has just appeared on the LMA website.
No comment from the club just yet.

The way they play sometimes I would have thought his younger brother Harry would have been more use

Barnsley have named ex-Hannover 96 boss Daniel Stendel as their new head coach.

The 44-year-old German is known in his homeland as "Der Deutscher Keith Hill"

More here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44381777

There's an interesting snippet in there: "We've identified that the counter-press has been used by the most successful teams in the world and Daniel is one of the best coaches at doing that," Ganaye [Barnsley chief executive] said. Isn't that the style our coaches introduced prior to last season? Hmmm.

That struck me as well.

But it kinda made me think of some "Style Expert" proclaiming eg that "Ripped jeans are worn by some of the most successful celebrities in the world, and Daniel certainly has got the legs for them!"

So I couldn't help wondering that while counter-press might be OK for the likes of Juergen Klopp, who gets to work with the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane for Liverpool in the Champions League etc, can Daniel do it on a wet Tuesday night in Doncaster?

Still, he reckons that "We identified him as a candidate as he's a coach that has a style of play that matches the mentality of club and town", so altogether now: "We're Barnsley FC, we gegen-press who we like!"

We're hardly trendsetters, though. Northampton started it with the Corby Trouser Press...

Some managers are suited to certain clubs and I think Tisdale and Exeter went well together.

Not sure what happened there though.

Heres hoping he isn't suited to MKD and they become the L1/L2 Sunderland

I respect Tisdale. Think he did really well at Exeter. Hate MKD so leaves me in a bit of a quandry. Don't want them to do well at all.

I think that fat smug scouse Corden lookalike was perfect match for MK, a fake club with no pedigree or class.

I saw that. It would seem that even McLaren can recognise crap, occasionally. Their chances of staying in the Championship must've improved immeasureably overnight. Even worse, it probably means the odious weasel-voice will be heard more frequently on Radio London.

Coleman chasing the money, crap manager

Divorce costs and child support to pay.

More fool the owners that appointed him. Bet Javier Mascherano is well pleased.

Apparently Steve Bruce is on £57,000 a week, £3 million a year, nearly as much as the multi-millionaire Josh McEachran
