Manager's PR

Whilst we are all agreed that Leroy is doing a fine job for bfc against all the odds (exodus of leading players / tight operating budgets / no transfer kitty ) and is obviously a nice bloke too, i do hope he will try and find half an hour in his busy week to post a regular manager's update on the bfc official website each week with 'what's what' and 'what's not' ! PR is a fact of life these days.

i am not asking for stunts or a daily blog about his garden -- but a weekly update would be a good move?

peter gilham, if you ever visit this site (and i am sure you do???) or one of the directors, can you try and have a word or instigate it please ?

Leroy is completely different to Martin. There isn't another manager in the League that does what Martin did/does.

Leroy's PR is what happens on the pitch.

Manager's PR

not trying to make (or did i in any way suggest in my post) making leroy into him at all. far from it.

however most manager's in brentford's history have done one pr 'chat' with the fans a week --- going back to perryman and docherty!

a good example was mickey adams.

Manager's PR

Don't really care, I'd prefer him to concentrate on tactics than writing about gardening, or for that matter anything. Who cares what Al*en said about how important the fans are, now?

Manager's PR

he's about to talk on beesworld apparently

Very poor PR from our manager

Manager's PR

I do agree, I think a weekly update would be nice. There's nothing on the official website anymore other than advertisements for betting websites.

Manager's PR

Maybe there is not actually a lot to say in truth.

Did we want to know about Darius's groan strain or whatever??

I think some have been fed on a diet of Talksport b*******s when it comes to football talk. Endless conversations about so and so and his left knee or whatever.

Most of what MA said was tripe, pleasant and amicable tripe it is true but smalltalk with a very small s...if your missing it go onto the MK Dons site and you can read what he said to us last year all over again!!

Actions speak louder than words and , at the moment, LR is a man of action.

 Perryman and Docherty were in charge before the WWW was invented. And Adams was manager when it was very young - I certainly don't think he gave regular updates online.

Manager's PR

Perryman and Docherty both provided pieces every week for the print media of the day via eric white.

the brighton manager has an evening paper that features albion on the back page each and very day of the year - summer and winter!

we are lucky to get 15 ccms in the evening standard - a week!

i repeat that i am not suggesting an ma type of daily diary or blog --- but the manager's views of player's progress, signings, injuries, tactics and issues once a week. that's all!

Manager's PR

I'm happy for Leroy to grow into that part of the job. At the moment, I'm pleased that all his time is spent on team matters.

Manager's PR

People are all different. The last incumbent used the O/S for his own means to gee up the fans and to get them on his side, probably so he'll have some ammo to have a go at the directors with - 'the fans want a new player/loanee or something let me have him' - or something along those lines. The new boss seems to do his stuff quietly and methodically. LR has done ok so far, he's got the players back to playing football a bit more and has new 'talent' wanting to improve. Whether he wants to 'up date' us on what is isn't happening thats up to him. Keep going LR.

Manager's PR

I'd prefer him to let his team do the talking on the pitch. Keep up the good work LR:sorted:

Manager's PR

I saw Leroy today in my home town of Wokingham with I assume his missus and daughter . I needed a double take so I drove around the one way system again to find them crossing the road.I didnt know what to do ,so I waved at him,he nodded ,like " who the **** are you ? "

Manager's PR

pr is a powerful tool, leave it to the marketing dept and keep Leroy focused on the team

Manager's PR

Leroy does his talking on the pitch, and I like it.

Manager's PR

Apparently according to my mate who went yesterday they left the window of the changing rooms open and Leroy turned the air blue with his HT teamtalk, he heard as he was closeby

might be worth buying the Chronicle

i have to say i havent missed Martins updates at all.

I agree. They were good at first but it was becoming repetitive to the point where you could acurately predict what would be said in the next update based on the result.

Manager's PR

MA was MA and LR is LR, they are different people with different approaches. Personally I couldn't give a monkey's about updates on the site being there or not as long as the team is performing well and or bringing in the results.

I think there are people that need to move on.

Manager's PR

wouldn't mind more updates but if its not his way it's not his way, look how the last one managed to con us with his updates

short on memory ?

I cant remember any conning going on from Martin Allen, just several humorous and crytic notes....perhaps you could provide examples ?

Manager's PR

I'm not overworried whether I ever hear 'XX is a good person with a good attitude to the game' ever again. Used to be impressed, but then I spotted that a lot of the 'good people' were suddenly on the transfer list.

However, before the Internet boom, the club call did often have interviews with the manager, so there was usually something to say. I don't mind if LR doesn't give us his views, but updates give me something to read.

Manager's PR

so Leroy dont pussy around, but he doesnt need to bleet on the website to tell us whats going on

what?

you commented that LR left a window open for all and sundry to hear his HT pep talk, i said 'and'........, what is the point of your post? that LR swore at the players? he ranted at the players? thats my question with regards to your post. I think what LR is doing by not going on the OS, telling us all is well and his new puppy is crapping in his perfectly manicured garden, is a breath of fresh air. So what if his shrubs are growing nicely and there might be a new 'bush' coming in soon.......... Let LR get on giving these fresh players the room to express themselves with their brand of football not the old managers, huff and puff get at 'em style, lets all jump in a cold pool/river and show them we're tough. Keep it up LR.

.

They do tend to spend a whole 3 hour show covering one topic and it gets very dull when everybody just repeats the same opinions over and over. Especially uneducated numpties who call in and can not justify their opinions.

However, I did used to like the way MA gave us almost a daily update on what was going on around the cub and made you feel part of it. LR is a very different person and if he wants to keep a low profile then so be it:)

Manager's PR

I saw Leroy today in my home town of Wokingham with I assume his missus and daughter . I needed a double take so I drove around the one way system again and then straight through a packed precinct sending petrified shoppers in all directions, I ran over three arts n'crafts stores and took out three trains of Waitrose shopping trolleys. I eventually caught up with them crossing the road.I didnt know what to do ,so I waved at him,he nodded ,like " who the **** are you ? "

that's dedication and quite a story mate ! lol

Leroy is a different kettle of fish to Martin Allen ( i managed to meet Leroy after the game at Northants top bloke)....For Leroy it has been time since joining BFC, and to be honest i dont think he has had much time to sit in front of a computer and type out a *blog*. And to be honest it doesn't really match his personality as he does seem the professional guy who likes to keep his cards close to his chest. Something MA didn't do and it could be said it gave opposing teams a chance to look at what Brentford were doing, as he would give away information regarding training etc. As long as Leroy and the players do there post match interviews and odd interviews now and again i dont honestly see the point in repeating what MA started. No other managers do it.

But maybe after Greg Dyke's interview we should have more from him, regarding the state of play in relation to finance and other factors that a chairman covers?! Just a thought.

A fair point IMO with regards to getting more info regarding general club issues. It's gone quiet on the new MD front, I don't believe we have been informed of whether any interviews had taken place for example.

Also, as a side point, the fact that I work in Milton Keynes, you don't get to hear anywhere near as many updates from MA currently... maybe he has learnt that he needs to keep things closer to his chest also!

Manager's PR

read the interview with the chairman, jay!

I have read that on the GPG bluestonebabe.
The point I was trying to make, is that more information, like the new MD position, should be on the OS in my opinion.
