Marcel Eger

Marcel Eger

Translated using Google translate

"I'm back here in my area was never really gone,'ve got me just hiding." These lines from Marius Mueller-Westernhagen currently fit in perfectly with Marcel Eger. The former St. Pauli pro is back in his area: St. Pauli.

The district, of course. I'm off there! And yet he is drawn once again into the wide world of football.

"Egi" is back. After a year at Brentford FC in the English third league Eger has canceled its tents in London. "Was' ne exciting and cool time in an outstanding city," the 29-year-old looks in on his conversation with the MOPO eventful year behind on the island. "But in the end it was not fit anymore." His current contract until 2013 at the "Bees" was dissolved by mutual consent.

A total of 19 games Eger has played for Brentford, "of which twelve to zero," as the central defender says with pride. No defender had a better record. "Clean sheet king" Eger was called - which means "king of the white waistcoat."

But despite the great recognition earned in the 1.90-meter-tall man with his colleagues and the fans with good performances, he was in favor of coach Uwe Rösler, who after an ankle injury in January in the second half barely began - Eger "inexplicable and unsatisfactory".

The return to Hamburg a week ago was twice as easy. "My district has welcomed me with open arms," says the native of Franke, who here still has an apartment, with a broad grin. He enjoys the atmosphere of the neighborhood and has seen many former St. Pauli's colleagues made.

The neighborhood club it does not let go. Eger is worried. The fact that Fabio Morena, Carsten Rothenbach and Ralph Gunesch again in the winter and three long-term "real" St. Pauli have left the club concerned him. "This is a great loss. I would hope that more players truly identify again with the club, the fans, the environment and those living in St. Pauli Spirit.

A comeback in brown and white, there will not be for Eger, who has taken seven years, these colors with pride. He has other plans, wants to try something again. "I am longing for adventure-football," he says. Eger takes it abroad again. "America totally appeals to me. That would be awesome. "There playing with Florian Lechner (New England Revolution), already a former St. Pauli and big friend of Eger.

One thing is certain: No matter where it is "Egi" next breath away - it will sooner or later return to his territory, and it will feel again as if he had never been away from St. Paul.

It does?!

Marcel Eger

12 in 19 starts - he came on as sub in three games. And we kept 13 not 11 clean sheets in the 22 games

Latest figures just in

Eger played 1,812 minutes for the Bees (not including added time)
We conceeded 19 goals whilst he was on the pitch (6 v MK Dons)

Marcel Eger

I hope this is false, I love Eger, not only does he look like one of my mates but he was one of our best defenders and complimented Legge nicely, it's just a shame about the injury.

Marcel Eger

I think Llera was our most successful with 7/13 or 53%, and I didn't rate him highly other than in his first home game when he was pinging long balls with incredible accuracy.

Eger was certainly our most successful of the 'regulars', but I'd also have to look at who partnered him, and frankly, life's too short. I wasn't knocking Eger, just suggesting that his stats were about as accurate as Drewe Broughton's.

Come on how can you seriously put Eger's name in the same sentence as Drewe Broughton and say you're not knocking him:nono::D

Marcel Eger

Don't think Pim will leave. I think Uwe rates him and will a big part of his plans next year.

I saId a while ago a Pim / Harlee partnership could work. Unless Uwe has another CB lined up it was a bad decision letter Eger go. I know a lot on here are in love with Legge but IMO he's Conference level at best.

Marcel Eger

Do we also compare goals conceded in games played, surely having a clean sheet is ok but if you concede 4 the following week the average is 2 per game.
Stats say nothing that much, we could have a 0-0 where Eger made more mistakes than a 2-0 loss, just that someone else saved his bacon.

I just love what is now beginning to happen.

UR has spent a season observing and analysing what and who we have and has made firm and brave decisions regarding who he does not feel is up to making the next step on the journey.

We have already said goodbye and thanks to good decent pros such as Wood, Bean and now Eger amd maybe there might be more to come in the shape of perhaps Woodman, Pim and even Weston.

With the decision of Osborne to go and Logan still up in the air and McGinn not being bought too that frees a significant slug of budget for UR to bring in the type of players he wants - a combination of young, hungry developing targets with I suspect some older stagers to come.

Very interesting times at the club!

I will love what's hapening when Uwe proves himself and his management teams credentials and puts together a cohesive squad that can challenge for the play-off's next season and bring in replacements which prove their worth over and above those that have been discarded. This isn't a negative post or doubting his ability to do so it's just stating the criteria by which IMHO he is to be judged. Personally think letting Eger go is potentially a mistake but Uwe is indeed making tough calls and like you I agree that these are interesting times at the club.

3 subs I give you, but I reckon that his shutouts were:
Brentford 2 - 0 Yeovil
Walsall 0 - 1 Brentford
Wycombe 0 - 1 Brentford
Oldham 0 - 2 Brentford
Charlton 0 - 3 Brentford
Brentford 0 - 0 Scunthorpe
Sheff Wed 0 - 0 Brentford
Brentford 6 - 0 Bournemouth
Brentford 1 - 0 Basingstoke
Barnet 0 - 0 Brentford
Brentford 0 - 0 Walsall

That's 11, I think. Which am I missing? (unless you're counting the Tranmere game where he came off before Trannies scored their goals?)

Wasn't it Broughton who claimed he'd scored a couple of goals in a game for us?

Well it Broughton's case that's a blatant lie and as Condor has posted Eger's pretty accurate (as befits a German) in his use of stats so not similar at all.......in any case the point he was making is still valid. He did a decent job for us and couldn't understand why he was frozen out which seems fair from his viewpoint.

Sure, the proof of the pudding etc etc. UR will live or die on the quality of his purchases and their ability to gell as a team.

I do like decisive management though and I really don't think that anyone who either has or is about to leave the club this close season (with the exception of Osborne who is a different case) would be a first teamer at a club challenging to win this League.

If that's the case and we have loftier ambitions then let them go.

I think that Lee, Dean, Saunders, Forrester, Douglas and even a revitalised Donaldson COULD play at the level we aspire to so we are still half a team away.

As I said, interesting times!!

turns out i cant add up

Marcel Eger

I think he's grown to rate him more, he involved him quite a few times near the end of the season, even though he still had an injury which meant his loan was recalled in the first place. I doubt he'll force his way into the first team but I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the bench decently often next year.
Exactly he was played lleft back and we had Woodman available and didint get a look in.

Couldn't agree more

Marcel Eger

Looked capable enough generally but never really staked a solid claim that he should play over Osborne were he fit.

Eger also had his injury problems so it may have been a different story were eh fit all season.

Don't dislike him and wish him well, think it's a shame though the main memory that comes to mind was him not being able to handle Novak at home to Huddersfield.

Marcel Eger

Shame but on balance if the key criteria we failed to meet this year that we have to address next year is the ability to beat the teams in the top siz is the fact he got done in one game by a player in a top six team not evidence he had to go? I do understand of course other players were also culpable for these defeats.

As you say if you use that criteria to juge players then we wouldn't have much of a squad left......as a rule results against the top six clubs were poor. Yes he got done by Rhodes and arguably was part of a poor defensive effort at home to the same team but I wouldn't cite that as a key criteria. For whatever reasons Uwe doesn't see him as part of the promotion pushing squad next season, personally I think it's a shame but I'm eager to see the improved versions of Eger and Osborne that he must have in mind!

Eager and Eger in the same line, pretty impressive.

Marcel Eger

I'm also eager to replace Eger although hear resources are meagre. Beg to differ but should it be Legge ?

Marcel Eger

If you are eager to replace Eger,
Then work like a beaver,
Untill you you reached pitch of fever,
Karleigh and Eger, we will have neither,
Upset maybe but not like a Diva,
All we need is Forbes.

Slow day at work NB;).....trying to work out your rhyming scheme. Good effort though, reckon the Poet Laureate has got some competition.

Don't you ever tell me you're too busy to talk again!

A german defender named Eger,
Was signed to help out young Legge,
It soon became clear,
He'd not last a year,
And on Uwes face is some egg er!

Young Eger arrived from St Pauli
Apparently he could play some foot balli
He was not big enough
When the going got tough
And Uwe has gone decidedly cooli

Marcel Eger

Hey Jude don't keep the lad
Take a German his name is Eger
Relase him and get him out of the team
So we can get someone whos better

Marcel Eger

It can't have been easy moving to a foreign country, settling into a new team and a different league. Huddersfield at home was probably his nadir, but I had hoped he would see out his contract, even if he wasn't a first choice player next season. Good luck to him, wherever he goes.

Get Eger out get Deanie in
Hey Dude begin
by making this team a little sterner
Cause don't you know that its fool
In Uwe's Rule
Who plays at the back a little softer la-la-la-la-la-la-la-lala

Bloody hell half a lager shandy at lunchtime and he turns into the GPG's answer to John Lennon. On reflection preferred your first ditty!

Ease off. That is Genius. Needs a bit of finessing but I think it works. I am now thinking I could reflect the entire Eger saga verse to verse over the entire song.

"Bit of finessing", I like that and may well use.

Remember he didn't get a good start but he then he tried and seemed to get better, better, better, better

Marcel Eger

We are turning into a veritable Lennon and McCartney.

How about ' The Striker you need is on your shoulder' for the last verse?
