good winger rip markOne a handful of players revered by clubs at each end of the 237 bus route. RIP Mark.
And a decent right hook too! That team was seriously hard, even by mid-60s standards. (We’d be playing 7 a side nowadays..)Thanks for the memories Mark - I seem to recall that thunderous right foot RIP
Good point on last par - he will be given a great send off.And a decent right hook too! That team was seriously hard, even by mid-60s standards. (We’d be playing 7 a side nowadays..)
As a nipper, saw them (and him) beat that lot, 5-2 & 6-1 in ‘65 & ’66. They went up and Mark went on to star for them - again.
How fitting that White City Wanderers are next up for the Bees. No doubt there’ll be commemorations and reflections on the day.
RIP, Mark.
What fond memories! What a superb winger and crowd pleaser Mark was.
What a team of goalscorers with such players available as Mark Lazarus, Billy Cobb, John Fielding, Joe Bonson, Ian Lawther, john Dick, Jimmy Bloomfield the fantastic Micky Block and Dai Ward.
Thanks for the memories and rest in peace Mark.
love the kit, plain and simple. Brings back plenty of memories.
me too - my first ever match.Like some of you, I had the pleasure of watching him at GP.
May he RIP.
Almost certainly. Winning goal for them in the 1967 cup final.Maybe QPR, for whom he had two stints, will do a black arm tribute for him.
League Cup Final ?Almost certainly. Winning goal for them in the 1967 cup final.
Both teams should wear a black armband for him, particularly if Peter Gilham reminds everyone.Maybe QPR, for whom he had two stints, will do a black arm tribute for him.
I remember that crazy passage of play as well. Didn't he also taunt his opposing full backs by just standing still with his foot on the ball waiting for them to commit ?I recall one match, Mark tearing down the right wing
in front of the new road ball at his feet, then when reaching
their area, turned round and ran all the way back to our box.
Only 12 at the time, and thought it was hilarious .
Bit or gamesmanship or probably Showmanship ??
RIP Mark

What a player, saw him many, many times, as a Brentford fan. Loved the way he always talk to the crowd during the game. Absolute genius.R.I.P. Mark.Sad day.One a handful of players revered by clubs at each end of the 237 bus route. RIP Mark.
He was of an era when the players could look after themselves on and off the pitch!I just missed him as a player but did see him at LR a few times as well as the 67 LC final. I did see his last appearance at GP, late 60s, for Orient against us. He did a few trademark runs, one in particular came just after someone on New Road shouted "Oi Tesco!" at him and he gave the bloke some hard glance afterwards! A great character in the game, bless him.
What a lovely photo. I remember Mark well, his eyes never aged!

Can't really remember and I'm someone will put me right who has a better memory than me! But I think we bought him from QPR and then sold him back to them. In today's value he, in my opinion, be right there with any wide player. Really well built, quick and direct. Also what a showman, Brentford crowd, myself include absolutely loved the guy, really sorry when he left. That’s a good read - thanks
Out of interest anyone know why he left QPR to go to Brentford. Could we offer more money?

Mark signed for Brentford FC on January 9th 1964. Why? Brentford were spending big and were trying to buy their way out of Div.III. We now know the way Dunnett was spending, it wasn't going to be a happy ending! Three years later, it came to a head. QPR attempting to buy us out.

these recent snippets, including the ones above, have come from the late Graham Haynes' scrapbooks.
Only fitting.? Really sad news.Minutes’ applause in memory of Mark Lazarus
There will be a minutes’ applause before kick-off (on Saturday) in memory of former Brentford and QPR player Mark Lazarus, who passed away on 25 July.
