Mark Peters?

What the hell is going on with Peters? If for what ever reason Downes can't get on with him, then why the hell don't we do the decent thing and let the lad go and at least save a few bob on the wage bill and give him a chance to try his luck with another club.
But that aside,I am not convinced that May is a better player than Peters.

Mark Peters?

Sadly i think he will be allowed to leave at the end of the season without getting a run in the side to prove himself. He will go off to another club and score goals for them and prove to be another talent that Brentford let slip away. I don't care if he has got an attitude or he won't track back or if Downes doesn't like him. I see him as someone who could keep us in this division, a rare commodity, someone who can score goals.

Mark Peters?

i think i am inclined to agree with you there steve bee. give him a decent run. he looks like scoring goals but hasnt been given 5 or 6 consecutive games to prove himself.

Mark Peters?

If I were Peters, I would be putting in the transfer request now. it is very clear that Wally will do all he can not to play the kid. We are desperate for a striker, we have a striker.

All this rubbish about tracking back is a smoke screen, he is a striker, not a defender. It is a team game, when he is up front, you don't expect the defence to be supporting him. He is a striker, his job is to score goals, it is the job of the defence to stop leaking goals.

last season we had endure game after game of Marky Mac falling over his own shadow on the way to missing countless oportunities, while Peters sat on the bench.

He needs a run of 6 or 8 games to prove himself, he won't get it while Wally is at the helm.

Mark Peters?

I cannot really say a lot about Peters because I have not seen a lot of him - simple fact is Downes does not rate him and would release him tomorrow if he could.

How do you know this to be a fact?

My opinion on Peters is that he has a poor attitude and very little commitment in terms of contributing to the team effort- and I know I'm not alone.

Mark Peters?

Wally cannot motivate the kid play for him if Wally doesn't want the kid to play for him.

The time has come for one of them to move on.

Mark Peters

Whats going on wally I thought he was going to shine this season.
He hasnt even been on the bench,I know that we have two strikers but wally could at least put him on the bench.
I bet you that he will hardly play this season then will end up releasing him at the end of the season

 :nono:  :nono:

Mark Peters?

He is the same Wally who plays Somner at left back......

Mark Peters?

Jimbee has a point

His "performance" at Barnsley at the back end of last season upset a fair few peeps....

Mark Peters?

I am agreeing with the people who think he will move to another club and go on and be a great player for whoever he plays for. the fact the WD is playing that tool from millwall ahead of him suggests to me that Marky p will be gone and we will be left to regret it.

Marky P would get us at least 15 goals this season and I cant see anyone else doing this..

Forget his other duties what would we give for 15 goals this season.

When did holdsworth or blissett make great defensive tackles

Mark Peters?

Can't remember May tracking back oh wait he did and they scored because of it.

JimBee , I think you hit the nail on the head.

I live a mile or so away from Peters and the horror stories I hear about him is good enough to probably cement your feelings..

No doubt he is a good player, but perhaps this kid won't even know it before its too late?

Perhaps he won't even care?

Mark Peters?

If Wally's trying to install discipline into a young squad and teach them how to carve out a career, do you think it would be right to constantly play someone who has a bad attitude, comes in drunk, gets in fights?
Now I'm not saying that this is Peters, but just a question really?

Mark Peters?

Ok - Let's say he's a bit of a rough diamond who likes to party now and again.

If your not even on the bench the coming Saturday your going to let your hair down and have a beer or three aren't you?.

And as you said - He's only a kid - Can't he enjoy himself?

Personally I think he's a bit small to be up front but then again he is built like a small tank.

He just needs a manager that will give him game time to realise to himself he has "got it" and not to waste his talent on the piss

Mark Peters?

No, if you're a proffesional footballer then you have to have standards - I didn't see Alan Shearer going out and getting into fights at Southampton when he was just a kid.
Hence why he is where he is today.
If a player wants to fight, get pissed and do whatever then no problem, but don't come moaning when he's working in a warehouse three years down the line complaining that he wasn't given a fair run.

Spot on.

I believe he has talent but if he isn't prepared to put in the effort he can't expect to get anywhere.

I wanted to see him given a run, and I hope he does but some things I've heard make me wonder if he wants to be a pro.

Unfortunately some of you peeps do not know the difference of tracking back and closing people down. Forwards do have defensive duties within their own attacking third. All the above mentioned within this thread do or did do this Peters doesn't do as much, but I'm sure with a few consecutive games under his belt he would learn to do better. Personally I think there are players you can shout at and others you give a cuddle to in order to gee them up. Peters is probably the latter and needs constant care and attention rather than a bullying.
Christ I'm sounding like Bobby Robson!! :)

.... don't worry, you're not sounding like Robson - you got the player's name right

at Ameobi's first U-21 session, to be made to feel welcome in the group, a coach asks: “What do you want us to call you? What’s your nickname?”

Ameobi being a bit overawed by the whole experience replied, “I don’t really mind.”

The coach persisted, “Don’t be shy son – what does Bobby Robson call you?”

Ameobi sheepishly replied, “Carl Cort!”

Sorry to say that M. Peters looked dreadful playing for the stiffs tonight against Swindon (we lost 5-1 by the way).

He was slow, well off the pace and seemed incapable of / not interested in reading the game. Was substituted with around 15 minutes to go. Didn't honestly look as if he cared.

I was speaking to one of the other (younger) players fathers who said that, according to his son, in training, Mark is "technically brilliant, but is bloody lazy and needs motivation".

One then for our 'master of motivation' to take up.

Mark Peters?

nigel, i felt that this was mark's attitude in the peterborough game also

he is just very immature

mark obviously drives wally up the wall
i would think that barrack room shouting
would only serve to make him more insular

it's a matter that needs to be addressed
as this club has few enough resources
as it is mark
needs to grow up quickly and realise his
potential before he ends up on the scrapheap

Mark Peters?

Sadly have to agree with Mr.Brooks on this, he didn't look bothered at all, even when he missed a one on one with the goalkeeper he didn't look concerned, and when he came off wasn't bothered, looked like he wants away i'm afraid.

Mark Peters?

it takes a certain kind of manager to bring the best out of some players.

Peters is a bit of a cureton on the pitch, does sod all then scores. We really could do with him but if he is not going to be given a chance then we will never really know!

Well said Nigel, he looked sh*t last night, the whole match was depressing. 14,000 miles for that rubbish. |I hope they win on Saturday.

You back home Neil?

Don't forget the presents! Carton of pride will do :D

To be honest, I'm not supprised he plays like he doesn't care.

Peters wasn't allowed on the pitch. He should have had a run out against Cambridge in the LDV, but no, we carried on with the donkey known as Mac. The kid couldn't even get on the pitch in an LDV game for fecks sake.

Wally continued to pick Mac over Peters each week, even though, I stood more chance of scoring from D block than Mac did on the pitch and we had a rather daunting fixture build up.

It was effin depressing to see Mac consistantly miss and fall over while Peters sat on the bench.

After most of last season on the bench and the start of this season on the bench, our only squad striker probably has a right not to give a toss.

Sorry, I don't buy that.

Any footballer who wanted to succeed would be going out to prove the manager wrong every time he played. He may think he should have started last year, he may think he should be starting at the moment but the fact is he isn't. If he wanted to succeed he would be giving his all to get his place back and keep it.

I happen to think he should have started at Tranmere but his performances to date this season have been average at best, and if he wants to stay in the pro game he needs to sort himself out.

Did Mark Macammon not score our only goal in that game?!

Mark Peters?

West Ealing Bee, Peters hasn't had a run of 2 competitive first team games on teh trot, let alone the usual 6 or 8 to prove to the manager what he can do, but he did score 4 goals in pre season.

Guildford Bee, with 20 minutes to go, Mac could hardly stand, he was totally knackered and still Peters stayed on the bench.

If the kid is going to stay he needs 5 or 6 consecutive starts, not bought on with 5 minutes to go.

It is clear that Peters moral is about as low as it can go and with Wally intent on not giving the kid half the chances that Mac was given, let him go.

I agree he deserves his chance but it says a lot that he isn't really putting in the effort when he gets his (limited) chances.

Difficult call this one. It's pretty obvious that someone (with motivational skills) has to build up his morale and self-belief. Equally, when he has the opportunity, like last night, to 'prove his doubters wrong' he plays like he couldn't give a damn.

My own call would be to recognise the (buried) talent and give him consecutive starts tp prove (or not) that he can play at this level. After all, it can't really get much worse can it?

Mark Peters?

To be fair he knows that if he scored seventeen goals in 1 game he wouldn't get picked. He has been overlooked in every possible way even to the point of not being given a full game in the friendlies. He scored and surely was a dead cert to start but wally went all out to get anybody in up front to avoid playing him even if this person was a 32 year old overweight unfit not even a "has been". He then pulled the stops out to get may in , for which I am grateful at the moment but yet to be totally convinced, and relegates peters to the stiffs. If I was him I wouldn't bother because if both our forwards got injured he would play hunt/kev or even somner up front before peters!
There may be a reason we don't know (other than speculation) why he doesn't play..who knows!
