Match Fixing

See 4 footballers have been arrested in connection with match fixing, no details known beyond confirmation they are not Ptemier League players. Seemingly according to the. " fixer" it's reasonably cheap to get a lower league player involved

In some cases taking an early yellow signifies to the betting syndicate that the fix is in

If it is proved to be happening in the Football League then we may all just as well give up !!!! I trust if guilty the players will face lengthy punishment but god knows how they sort out the results

Would be our luck to find it happened in Div 1 and come season end they decide no promotion as the results can't be trusted!!!!

BBC reporting that none of the arrested footballers are linked to professional clubs...non league perhaps?

It would be horrible if it affected any games at this level.

I watched Pakistan play cricket after some of their players had been outed. It totally undermined the fixture for me.

I think I read somewhere that when this problem came up in the past the reason the choose a lower level of football is because there is so much coverage of football in this country it would be nearly impossible to get away with it in the Premiership or Football League, but alternatively when there is a large amount of money placed on a run of the mill Conference game that also arouses suspicion.

It appears that concerns were raised last November when more money it total was bet on the Billericay / Welling game. than was bet on Barcelona, who were playing on the same day.Amazingly it cost the bookies in Asia a small fortune.

Surely the best way to stop it would be to limit the amount you can bet on lower league football. ??

Listening to various " experts" today whilst max fixing in Britain is only in non league there is a suggestion that it is not isolated and can/will spread up the leagues.

Seemingly 60 cases being investigated world wide at present and the suggestion that in Italy it is perhaps somewhat more rampant at a higher level

Think it was Ecuador where the whole national team have picked up life bans for fixing a game against USA

Football is one of the easiest games for officials to fix as it is a comparably low scoring sport with referees having opportunities to greatly influence a result, this could be via the awarding of a questionable late penalty or even a sending off. With the authorities showing little appetite to address diving with a video review or even consider any form of video replay these problems are likely to continue especially with the size of the worldwide gambling market.

I would also think it is easier to avoid detection on bigger games as the overall betting market is a lot bigger, making it harder to detect suspicious patterns of betting.

It didn't involve Far East syndicates but the Huddersfield v Barnsley result on the last day of last season was certainly fixed!

You can't read the full story without being a subscriber, but Sam Sodje's extraordinary sending off for Portsmouth at Oldham, for punching José Baxter in the nuts, is being reported as spot fixing.

It's actually a pivotal moment in last season's relegation battle. Oldham were in big trouble but went on to win the game, find some form and survive.

Apparently the story in The Sun goes on to say former West Ham player Cristian Montaño, now with Oldham, is also involved in something, and has upset the syndicate by not getting booked.. He's been "injured" for a few weeks.

The lad is a real talent. If true it's an unbelievable waste, even if he does suffer inconsistent winger syndrome.

Also when you could bet on which team would get a throw in first did nobody think why are they booting it straight out at the kick off remember beckham doing this serveral times. Anyway the bookies stopped offering the bet so I assume people were at it.

I think you should make yourself known, there would be a few pints shared methinks. You've changed my opinion of Oldham fans, my last experience was having young kids gobbling on my back as I tried to sell a Brentford book, you don't sound like a chap who would do that.

I did once throw an empty plastic cup at a linesman during a Stockport game in my teens.

I'll drop my movements into a match thread during the week. We're likely to be down quite late but a swift half won't do any harm.
