Just read that Cambridge United have released 12 players...and are looking to offer new contracts to only 3, one of which is.......... step forward Matt Somner.

All this assumes that the adminsitration thing works out, but geniunely pleased that he's got a chance to establish a career as a pro footballer, good luck to the bloke.

Mostly looked a good player,unfortunate not to make it here,looks to have settled into a good future

Matt is a top bloke who i think deserves a chance as a pro footballer. I think it was a shame he didn't make it here, but i wish him all the luck where ever he ends up playing.

Looks like he will be looking for a new club during the summer, as he has turned down the new contract offered by Cambridge.

I would assume he has done so, because he has other offers on the table. Surely he wouldn;t turn down a deal that effectively puts him out of work. :fishing:

Depends what the offer was, he might have been offered part time.

Interesting to see Sam's brother playing so well - looked like he could be a good footballer in his 15 minute appearance for us at B'Stoke.

Absolute sh*te..........him & Frampton at Wycombe when we lost 4-0 ...... couple of Brian Cants !lol

I got slaughtered on here when i said if Somner , Jay Smith , Hutch left us they would struggle to find a league club........tough being right :)

He may be a top bloke but i dont think that qualifies you as a footballer does it ?

To many people with splinters in thier arse on this site .

Of course not but he's still a full-time pro after seven years, which is not easy to do. He may not have been your cup of tea but considering he played most games in 2002-03 on about £200 a week his contribution at Brentford was better than most.

Scored the 3rd today in Mansfields 3-1 win over Eastbourne , to leave them top of the Conference.
