Matthew Benham

Iirc the agent made the first move, then the stats were run against him on the computer and we went in for him despite Warburtons reservations. I might be wrong :)

I have spent 10 hours on Fifa 2016 and still can't make vibe score.... Assume Benham must be using a different computer programme

Matthew Benham

In the information age, ignorance is a choice and there are still a fair few of our fans who choose ignorance.

Matthew Benham

Rubbish. . Warburton has a football brain unlike someone else who thought a computer and stats could do the job. .he was wrong

Stats only play a part in our strategy, thought everyone understood this by now? In Matthew i trust.

Matthew Benham

I have spent 10 hours on Fifa 2016 and still can't make vibe score.... Assume Benham must be using a different computer programme

Really? I think hes quality on fifa lol

Matthew Benham

No Benham no Warburton.

No Benham no Championship football.

No Benham no Lionel Road.

No Benham no future.

It's not that difficult to understand is it Mr Leprechaun?

Lionel road is a long long long way off

Matthew Benham

The fact that we sold players that did not want to play for us anymore apparently?

We can't match wages .. Is that because of the FFP crap?

Matthew Benham

Scores all the time for me. But only as part of a front two with Hoffman.

Matthew Benham

We can't match wages .. Is that because of the FFP crap?

It is. Our exceptionally low turnover by Championship standards would see annual losses increase enormously which would see us fall foul of FFP. Not to mention the fact that even if it was permitted, MB would be looking at considerable extra funding to cover those losses.

Matthew Benham

People who cannot grasp what this man has done for this club should have a look at the Orient owner thread currently running and very popular!

We are blessed and very lucky!

Matthew Benham

We can't match wages .. Is that because of the FFP crap?

Even if we match wages, we can't match Reading's recent history, Leeds pay Dallas approx 9k a week, I presume Toumani the same which might explain why Toums didn't feel the need to join up with Warbs even though he'd known him since he was 17 and stated that was why he wanted to go, they both might be worth those sort of wages but I doubt we can offer 9k a week to players of that ilk. Dallas was told he could get 9k a week at Leeds or Ipswich before either club had even started negotiating a fee with us, all that's left for BFC to do is to get the best buck possible for his transfer and try and replace, you can say that we haven't replaced him that well yet but him going was impossible to stop IMO.

Matthew Benham

We can't match wages .. Is that because of the FFP crap?

I'm sure MB could pay our best players 20k+ a week if he could but we are effectively a corner shop sitting alongside Harvey Nics & Harrods etc
The new stadium will bridge gaps but even then some players will prefer turning out for the likes of Leeds than us. Tbh mate you sound a bit ungrateful for what we've got. The reality is that most of us are as happy as pigs in sh1t

Matthew Benham

I think that the point has to be made

1. we are punching way above our weight

2. FFP means that we cannot just throw money at improving the squad

3. Even if we could why should MB spend more than he has budgeted which is already generous in the extreme

4.Last year was a massive overachievement due to brilliant young players, a team ethos, good management and coaching, a lot of good fortune and first year syndrome

5. Our best players have been snatched away because they were all more than good enough to progress higher, were offered wages in some cases 2-3 x what they earned at Brentford

6. Players chase the money - it is a short and risky career and they must strike while the iron is hot

7. We could not afford to keep them or risk a divided dressing room so we made sure we got top dollar for all of them, something we have never achieved before

8. This money has and will continue to be invested in new players but not until the end of the season when we can extract maximum value

9. We are now hamstrung by massive over- expectations

10. We are looking to progress but cannot do so at the pace we set last season - it is quite impossible

11. Yes there were some daft ill thought comments from people high up at the club which should not have been made which are now coming back to haunt them - and rightly so

12. This is how it is going to be until we get to Lionel Road

13. How it is going to be is still pretty damn good in my opinion as we will be mid table in the Championship playing good football until we can afford to invest more in the squad

14. All will be well as long as we continue to recruit properly. in 2014 we recruited brilliantly in 2015 half the signings have come off and half have yet to do so

15. Everything hinges on who leaves and who comes in this Summer

16. The remainder of this season is about consolidation and experimentation - no more - no less

Matthew Benham

Lionel road is a long long long way off

Another thing too. Matthew, I understand, is/was underwriting a substantial shortfall of circa £20M, if my memory is correct, to complete the Lionel Road project.

Lionel Road then gives us the chance to increase our revenue to then compete more equally under FFP which will then help with your wish of keeping our best players. Anyone that still sees fit to criticise MB's intentions for the club are quite frankly nutjobs.

Matthew Benham

Walsall had FFP explained to him in great detail yesterday by a number of posters earlier in this thread!

All I've asked is that is it because of the ffp that we cannot match wages... And your calling me ungrateful!??? Fu*k me, how the f*ck is that ungrateful geezer

Yes, I did mate, and thanks for that,, I wasn't too sure if wages were mentioned .. Soz fella

Matthew Benham

Lionel road is a long long long way off

Considering when the process started up to now, we are well into the final stretch. 2/3 years is not a long, long way off when the process has been rumbling on for nearly 15 years already.

Matthew Benham

Read back what you've written on here recently mate. Questioning whether MB's in it for the money etc.

I went to school with MB (don't know where i went wrong ;) ) and he was more fanatical about BFC than i was aged 12/13/14. And i was pretty keen!

He's living his dream and only has good intentions for our club.

Matthew Benham

Yes, I did mate, and thanks for that,, I wasn't too sure if wages were mentioned .. Soz fella

No probs. Wages being part of the footballing costs fall under the FFP umbrella.

Matthew Benham

Made the mistake of looking at Matthews facebook page.

Jesus some of the ***** posted on there,I despair of some of our supporters. Classics like " get yer checkbook out"!! And innit for the money!!

Kill me now..

They are not supporters, just mindless cretins who hide behind a keyboard.

Matthew Benham

Lionel road is a long long long way off

Not really. Cross Ealing Road, walk up Burford Road turn left across the railway, cut through Carville Hall park and its just along the road.
A f****** stupid answer to a f****** stupid statement!

That's ok though innit cause he's minted and can afford a few more million. I mean what's wrong with the tight bastard? Cant understand him, its only money!

A perfect summary of the situation!
Somehow, someway it needs to be got across to those who are prepared to understand. Those that aren't the club are better off without!

Laying the first brick, to a major construction project, is akin to wiping the end and lighting a fag, in sex terms.

Point 9 re over expectations, I think back to the Charlton game at the start of last season and Tommy Smiths deflected equaliser. The celebrations were really like we'd won the FA cup, everyone was so excited by the fact we'd scored our first goal back in the championship and we're heading for our first point. As the season progressed we were going into games expecting to win, when prior to the start of the season, these were games on paper we'd written off. Many also thought that our last game against Wigan, would potentially end up being us needing to win to stay up and to stop Wigan going up; how wrong was that ?.
In short, as fans we've been spoilt. Whilst the club does need to progress we also need a reality check from time to time

Matthew Benham

Ive posted this on the Context thread and i want to ask the same on here to those having a pop. As it seems relevant on both at the minute

I was going to start a new thread but feel it would descend into nonsense............................. So i just want to ask

Why do all you Doom and Gloom posters feel the need to suddenly come out of the woodwork after every loss???? You all go very quiet after a win or draw...................

I can understand questioning the club and being down after a loss, but the constant sniping and hatred towards certain areas of our club is baffling as i assume you all support BFC.

Get over last season!!!!!! Fed up of hearing that comment, Last season is gone. There is nothing you can do about it, so why not till the end of the season support a very young team that needs us to finish as well as we can to build for next season.

Jeez Championship football, Sheffield Wednesday away, Derby and Wolves to come at home................... Cheer up you miserable gits.

You may hate his stats blah blah, he may have "sacked" your saint that is MW, he may only be in it for the money, but end of the day Matthew Benham has made this all possible!!!! No one else, i didnt hear of anyone else riding in with £100m to pull us out of the despair of L2-potentially Non League.

**** me IIRC this time 10 years ago we were about to go on a 11 game win less run after being at the bottom of L1 since December 5th........................Anyone not happy with where we are now needs to have a long think about what more they actually want MB to do for us???? In my opinion he has done more then enough already.

Matthew Benham

Well you could quite easily but really no need

Quite right. Some of the fools on there have no interest in the facts. Fortunately the Brentford Groups still have vastly more sensible informed posters who are doing a pretty good job of educating the embarrassingly uninformed and just plain stupid.

Matthew Benham

It's a learning curve and harsh

It is a learning curve and expectations were raised artificially high last season but I've read some shocking things from people who purport to be fans this season.

Matthew Benham

I feel things are coloured by romance. It's harsh what people are saying both ways. I still think there will be a hero or two. A lot of misfortune and what seems to be an admitted mistake. Personal attacks help no one. The squad do need to start stepping up tho for our colours with some bite. Maybe some personal coaching from Mac. There are...romance again.
