does this mean I cant VIEW these forums unless i am logged on? Im not always logged on, ie when I am at work.

"Members only" forums

You'll be able to view the forum's (i.e. see the thread titles) but not the posts themselves. Solution: log-on at work!

"Members only" forums

Is this really a good idea? A lot of people read GBD to keep up with the gossip without wanting to get involved, people can go elsewhere (ie Beesotted) for their news and gossip if they want to. I think you'll scare as many people away as encourage to join.

If you really have to do this, can the log-in box be put somewhere more obvious than the bottom right hand corner, ie in the middle above all the forums?

Come on Bananaman, that’s a bit of an arrogant reply. So just why do you need to know just how many online Bees there are and what can/do you do with that information?

I get very concerned about unnecessary and apparently irrelevant attempts to monitor my net usage and regularly delete any the spy ware cookies planted on my computer. However if you can demonstrate to me just how having to log in every visit will benefit ME then I will accept the restriction.

Surely you are a servant not the (unelected) master of the GPG community and if something like this is going to be implemented it should be put up for open debate first not just baldly announced..

If people hear about this board in the future and then see that they can't even read it without giving out their details they won't bother. I think this action is too extreme, Nananaman. Is this all you're going to do or will the entire board be members only in a few months?

You pompous git.

I was going to apologise for my drink-influenced rants last night, but I don't think I will bother now.

Interesting that the forum you are making members only is the "general" one, and Transfer Talk (which should be members only) can still be read by Ian Holloway if he is bored during the evening.

Was this sort of thing in the remit that Banana was given when he/she took over administration or does he/she own the board outright or have I completely missed something else?

I think its a great idea but am still waing for Mr Orange to start charging the annual membership fee:cool:

Don't give him ideas. :nono:

I agree with the protesters here. Aren't we trying to be as inclusive as possible? What's the point of deeping out curious lurkers??? If someone wants to contribute then they obviously need them to register...but otherwise, why not let everyone in to read things Bee?!?

A vote for 'no'!

Fair questions. The board's survived OK for 3 years without this, why is it suddenly so important now? Unless I'm very much mistaken, no-one's been consulted about this before the decision was taken.

rofl rofl rofl rofl

i've been telling for months that banana's a tw*t, but did ya listen?!

(and even if he does somehow manage to justify his latest dictatorship move, i justify my name-calling purely from his initial response to Mr T...)

er... yes!

Funnily enough, he seems to be mentally sound 95% of the time, but has silly phases. It seems like he is deep in the middle of such a phase at the moment.

I can fully understand the strong reaction and would like to say that I agree with most of what is said above.

A serious re-think is needed.

"Members only" forums

The only reason I can see for doing this is to boost the ego of the gpg by increasing the number of members it has - bit sad if that's the case.

Another pointless "improvement" imo.

Answers!

Come on Mr Banana, answers to fair and legitimate questions please. don't do a "Chapman" on us!

"Members only" forums

Totally agree that forums should not be members only. Who cares how many members are online? The only time i ever look at the bottom of the page to check, is who to see is online, so I can PM them and know I get an immediate response.
Bow to the masses!

marky mark, while you're floating around...

was this idea ever suggested in your day?

if it was, how come it never came into effect at that time?

just wondering, like :)

great, so people are actively leaving and you're encouraging it. Can't wait for 6 months down the line, "The Banana And His Friends Park Grapevine"...

Aussie Bee, your Foster-fuelled rants were always entertaining, hopefully this board will settle down soon, keep popping back  (unless Banana bans me anytime soon, in which case see you on 'sotted, a poor alternative in my book but getting more attractive by the day ;))

Bloody hell, people are very quick to criticise around here aren't they...!

Isn't there a better way of counting the online bees? Maybe a question on entry for non-members asking "are you a brentford fan or away fan" for monitoring purposes (like the one on the bbcnews.com site that asks you what country you are in). There must be other suggestions too?

We can't ask non-members anything very easily. We can ask those who have registered questions like that rather easily.

hmmm. the fact that people are LEAVING is counter productive no matter how productive you consider the new moves to be. Maybe time to listen to the people???

quite funny that members are leaving considering the changes don't affect them. i know im thick but that don't make sense

Im moving to the point where i agree with nana. totally harmless.
