Michael Atkins RIP

Bees fan, Michael Atkins sadly passed away this morning in Llandudno. Mike was 74 years of age and one of the founder members of the North West Bees (Brentford supporters group for that area of the UK). Mike was a lifelong Bees fan. He was taken to Griffin Park by his father from the age of 8. When they moved to Herne Bay, Mike would later travel up by train to watch his beloved Bees. One story he shared was of going to go a home game once and being the only person in the Ealing Road stand ! There was snow all over the pitch. He was wondering what was going on, eventually only to learn that the game was to be postponed. We think this was the Southend game in the 1965/66 season.
Mike managed to see his team play at the GTech stadium this season against West Ham in the 1-1 draw.
Mike used to work in the Police force based in North Wales. He loved the outdoors and often went on 20 mile hikes and climbing mountains in Scotland and Wales and just in the last year. He liked going to gigs and recently saw Skipinnish in Glasgow last September and Madness in Llangollen last July, to name just a couple.
Mike will be sadly missed by his family and friends. A lovely guy who was always positive when it came to his club and Brentford FC.
RIP Mike, you were one of the great guys.

Please accept my condolences, mate. You North West Bees give tremendous support despite how far away you live, home and away.

a3e66e42-c81a-4b50-bfe7-52abac264364.jpeg I first met Mike in the ticket office queue at Carlisle (it wasn’t a long one), he had travelled up from North Wales with his great friend Kev Cripps and I had travelled from the Wirral. A shared love of Brentford FC led to trips all over the country supporting the Bees, gradually meeting other North West based Brentford supporters including Keith Macinnes and Trevor Williams. Together we shared so many fantastic experiences including the victory at Wembley in the playoff final.
I consider myself fortunate to have met Mike and was able to share his trip to the G Tech earlier this season.
RIP Mike ❤️?

RIP Mike. Although we obviously spent many years following the Mighty Bees in the low divisions I cannot say I knew you but the dedication to travel so far to follow our team deserves the highest admiration.

Hopefully you will enjoy future games with other departed fans in that stand in the sky.

Well said, Mike together with other such dedicated long term supporters from all over the country/world who have followed us and given hours of support through thick and thin up and down the divisions are the lifeblood of this great family club of ours, and long may it continue, R.I.P Mike and I'm sure you will keep watching from above with all our other dearly departed ones. COYB!!! ? ? ? ?

As one of the North West ? ?
Mike will be sadly miss.
He travelled when he could and was always watching on his telly in North Wales when he couldn't.
So pleased he got to see us win at Wembley and watch us in the Prem.
RIP Mike
It was a pleasure to have know you ❤️

Some lovely words here from you Bees fans.

Mike was an ex-colleague to a few of us up here in North Wales who have followed Wrexham for many a year (don’t hold it against us!). All of us would say he was one of the nicest blokes you could ever wish to meet, a boss that you could trust implicitly who would never drop anyone in the proverbial, and a true gentleman.

All the photos on here show him as we remember him, always looking happy and with that infectious smile.

Best wishes to you and RIP Mike.

Hi, thanks for your first post on here and message. Lovely to hear of someone that also knew Mike. Your right, he was an absolutely top bloke and a privilege to have known him.
Keith.

Can't quite believe it was a year ago today that Mike sadly passed away.
Will light a candle for him this evening and in his memory.
That remarkable performance from our Bees yesterday, was for him.
I'll be wearing a Toffs Bees shirt he gave me, to the Newcastle game.

Scattered Mike's Ashes at the top of Conwy mountain yesterday. That was his wish.
His lovely family were good we took part on what was a lovely and not too windy day.
Anyway .... a few years back, me and Mike were in the back of the car and on our way to a Brentford away game, when he said he had binned all his Brentford shirts, in an attempt to clear some space !!!
Sacrilege !!!
Fortunately the dustmen hadn't taken them and Mike was able to retrieve them for me. Gave them a good wash and put them in with my collection of Bees stuff.
One of the shirts was signed by Marinus Dijkhuizen !!!
Anyway on the walk up Conwy Mountain yesterday, I thought I would wear one of Mike's shirts .... then I met 12 year old, Harry. Mike's Grandson on the walk.
Harry should have the shirt. His Grand Dad's shirt and I gave it to him and told him, his GrandDad used to wear that.
I think it made his and the families day.

Harry with his family and the shirt and my Bees flag.❤️
