Michael Dobson

That is ****ing terrible news. (If true)

Good luck to you Dobbo in whatever else you do.

Michael Dobson

RIP for Dobbos football career, had to hang up his Puma Kings as his knees have had it

The same knees he was having injected before every game to get through the season under Coppell.

Michael Dobson

Shame if true, always liked Dobbo.

Michael Dobson

:( What sad news, not quite a bees legend, but certainly right up there for me :sorted:

Michael Dobson

Terrible news, best of luck what ever you decide to do Dobbo, always gave 100%for the cause, bloody shame,

Michael Dobson

Best rememberd for scoring at The Mill Stad against Port Vale?

It went downhill for us in the game from that moment and also for his career.

Good luck for the future Dobbo.

Did anyone else listen to Dobbo being interviewed on 5 Live Breakfast this morning ? he was introduced as former Brentford defender MD and was being asked his views as a personal trainer how sportsmen and in particular footballers should train properly in preparation for the new season. Good bit about his time aa a Bee and how certain players compared their bodies to each other in the changing room - no names mentioned though. he came across as a very knowledgable pro. Catch it on BBc Iplayer.

Michael Dobson

roughly what time as it on?

Michael Dobson

cool, that will be 1.15 or 1.30 on the BBC iPlayer then :)

Just seen this post from Michael on Facebook....

"Right, I didn't score many goals in my career as the majority was playing as a right back or defensive midfielder, so I hit the net 11 times. The problem is, I don't have a few of them recorded and I'd like to get hold of them.

So, here's the challenge for any Brentford FC fans....if you think you can get hold of my goals and get them to me, it would be very much appreciated. I have the LDV final goal but would love to have others, especially a volley away at Scunthorpe in the FA Cup (possibly in 2000), a header away at Peterborough in the LDV cup (possibly 2002) and any others. A big thank you to anyone who can hold of them for me :-)"

Anyone???

2 in the area final at Southend

Michael Dobson

That was a mental night.

I miss trips to Roots Hall. FA cup third round would be good.....

I don't....I discharged myself from hospital after a burst appendix for the Leyland Daf semi final I think it was back in late 80's early 90s and spent hours getting there on public transport (tbh I could hardly walk and it was a stupid thing to do but c'est la vie)...

I think we scored a late goal to win the game and it outside afterwards I got clobbered in the car park (I didn't even see the bloke!) before coming to in the car park with a lip that resembled Mick Jagger...

A couple of mates gave me a lift back but I still didn't get home until early hours of the morning in absolute agony and ended up back in hospital with a secondary infection!

S C E N E S

Was quality. And a mega turnout from us too. I'm sure we had atleast half the attendance.

Turnouts and atmospheres should be like that now

Best pitch invasion ever at the home leg when we went 1-0 up too !

Haha I remember for the second up near Ealing road , running on from the paddock, slipping all over the gaffe. Must have looked funny. Pitch was in bits with the weather

Hasnt been back to GP since?? Find that hard to believe, but if its true then also very sad.

Michael Dobson

Was tweeted he left the club on bad terms ?

Anyone know more ?

Michael Dobson

Shame he’s not been back since. Has the Football Club invited him back at all?

Has to come back this season. How many father and sons have worn the colours for Brentford? ;)

His reason for leaving.......

The arrival of Martin Allen in 2004 essentially spelled the end of Michael’s time in TW8. Though the former West Ham midfielder helped to pull off ‘The Great Escape” at the end of the 2003/04 season, Michael openly admits the pair “didn’t see eye-to-eye” and when his former boss Steve Coppell signed him on-loan at Reading at the end of the 2005/06 season, it was a chance to put himself in the shop window; he’d subsequently made just 31 appearances over Allen’s two full seasons in charge. Poignantly, he has never returned to Griffin Park since.

Michael did some questions and answers at a primary school in Perivale where my then wife taught. He turned up in Brentford kit. School kids were spellbound. Respect.

Still strange how he's never been back. 177 appearances for a youth player shouldn't be forgotten.

And only 2 pages on here about him.

Yes that is odd. He was our Captain. Homegrown and heart on the sleeve. Had to endure the Downes era. Never gave less than 100 per cent.

Agree - never gave less than 100% and has my full respect although I'm struggling to recall him as being a 'heart on sleeve' type? Thought he had a fairly reserved / straightforward persona which is possibly why his thread hasn't attracted too much interest over the years for a player with so many appearances.

Michael Dobson

Michael's dad George was a good mate of mine and he told me that Michael wasn't that interested in football and never watched other games. To him it was just a job so I am not surprised that he has never been back to watch the Bees.
