No. It's 15% of (9,000,000 - 375,000) = 1,293,750

Hopefully it will balance the books for next season meaning we dont have to panic about selling in January to stay afloat or avoid losing ground on our upkeep

There is a business plan put together by the Acting CEO that involves buying a vineyard in France........the product will be called Brentford Vintage with a red and white striped label and available at the club shop in XXXXXL bottles.

Full details will be discussed at the board meeting tomorrow and supporters kept closely informed.

For starters....


New grass in front of the Brook Road Goal
Downpayment on the monorail
A years' supply of onions
Seat warmers for D Block
Bernabeu style heaters for the Ealing road
New sound system for the Ealing Road
Harry Curtis statue in the Braemar forecourt

This possible deal does highlight that, sometimes, it makes sense to 'invest' a bit on carefully selected young players.Guys like Turner, and Powell, and Foster and Taylor and Holdsworth and Sinton etc etc gave us great service and also made us a good few bob.
It also helps our club demonstrate to young players that we are capable of developing their careers etc
I feel special credit on Turner should go to Martin Allen , who seemed to have great faith in the lad. And, to be fair, the club backed him on this.
I like to think we might have one or two currently on our books who may possibly also prove to be great investments...

I think this is exactly the business plan AS and the board are following.Players are " excited " whats happening at GP,and this cant be just big bucks to attract them here.Keane will buy experience to get him up the league as quick as possible.With the money coming in ( please) from Turner,hopefully it is us who has bid for Rhodes.£50k with sell ons?They were almost going to release him prior to Keanes appointment

If we get Rhodes for that amount it will be THE deal of the century. In fact, can I just stick my head and say; Rhodes will not be joining us permanently this transfer window.

Sadly I think you're right. I'd love to see him on a season long loan though. We'd give him great experience and confidence not to mention learning from the great AS.

Hope if the Turner is sold and we get money it goes to helping balance the books. Would benefit the club in the long term rather than blowing it on a player.

There's no way anyone at the club would sanction spending ~£800,000 on a player(s)!

But I guess some of it would be used to give us a competitive run in come the March 2010 loan deadline, should it be necessary. With the rest used to reduce the debt and allow a pseudo profit year.

We're always in profit when it comes to pseuds... the GPG alone can boast a good number of us

Back to subject, totally agree that we can't spend large sums on players. I would be very surprised if we spent as much as £100k on any player now (unless the tribunal screw us on Weston). I'd see any expenditure as being the odd £30-50k fee and wages for loanees

I don't think that's accurate.

You may be confusing him with Clarke - who was set to be released then Keane said he'd take another look, then he released him anyway.

For a young English player in the current transfer market, I think £9.5m is too low. Everton turned down £15m for Lescott and are said to want double! Hopefully Man City get involved and drive the price up.

Brown mentions evaluation based on "current climate". That means he is expecting double now that man city have raised the bar to a totally unecessary level.

Has Arsene signed an English defender since Upson and he was only a teenager back then?
If anything this might scupper the flow of CB's around the premier league as he is more likely to dip into the foreign market again.

I think we're over-valuing Turner. At xmas he could have gone for 7-10m on the back of Hull's run, but he's been stuck in the heart of a sinking ship for the last 6 months.
I really hope he isn't subject to any more buffoonsh mismangement from Brown and get's out of there, but now I can't see a team offering more then
5m.
And i have a terrible feeling he'll end up at fulham, if Villa don't come in for him.

Name a footballer who isn't overpriced. The problem is that somebody ie Chelsea, Man City, Real Madrid, whoever pay silly money for somebody and all valuations seem to be done with that price as the new yardstick

Rumours are that they are after Hangeland at Fulham and they've also signed Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax. I'd be surprised if Turner has enough experience for them tbh - only one season in a struggling Prem side.

This is marvellous news. I was wondering about Brentford players who'd gone onto bigger and better things after leaving us. Obviously Andy Sinton was one Brentford player who went onto great things after his time with the Bees, but I'm not sure I can remember another Bees player who'd ended up playing for what I suppose they now call "one of the big four" clubs after leaving us ?

Lets hope the price keeps spiralling.

I question whether he's worth half that even in todays inflated market, rated him for us and pleased to see him doing so well for Hull. Still believe he will be exposed for his lack of pace in the top division over time.
