Middlesex CCC 2017

Middlesex CCC 2017

The last hour of play has just been signalled by the umpires at Edgbaston.

They have to bowl a MINIMUM of 16 overs

Looks like they will survive....

What incentive to Warwickshire have ???

Middlesex CCC 2017

So, is the County Championship ending in the final week of September because of 20/20?

Middlesex CCC 2017

Yes that is correct

They now have a Window in July and August to play T20

And play only 1 or 2 Championship games

May and early June is now 50 over

So April and September for the Majority of games

So wrong for so many reasons this!

Middlesex CCC 2017

Warwickshire
Middlesex
Northants
Sussex
Kent
Gloucs
Glamorgan
Derbyshire
Durham
Leicester

Next seasons Div 2.

Play 14 games.

Figure that one out.
I guess you play your nearest teams twice ??

Middlesex CCC 2017

Huge under performance by the team during the season. With the squad they had they should have been challenging for the championship.

Middlesex CCC 2017

More batting points than three of the teams above us, likewise bowling points, and of course one more win than Surrey. Three more points and we would have been fourth (or no points deduction and we would have been safe). Must have used up all our luck last season.

Middlesex CCC 2017

A piss poor end to the domestic Cricket season. Some really poor performances from Middlesex mixed in with the odd good one. Those penalised points has cost the county dear.

We were probably lucky not to get deducted points for the Uxbridge fiasco anyway.

Piss poor season again. Only last year was good out of the last half decade. Piss poor team as well. Players like Compton need to go. Waste of time

...........oh dear,oh dear..............

Middlesex CCC 2017

Will this affect the building of Sex's new stadium.

Middlesex CCC 2017

They are lodging an appeal about the 2 point deduction.

Middlesex CCC 2017

They have done a " man city "

They are lodging an appeal about the 2 point deduction.

The powers that be won't have the balls to give them back the points as it would mean sending down a different side, who would then launch their own legal case.

Middlesex CCC 2017

IF the arrow had not been fired
Then Middlesex COULD have declared
And then made up the 2 overs by bowling quickly in the last hour

BUT
If it had simply rained
Then Middlesex could not have declared and would have had the points deduction

So Legally
They have no claim that it was an illegal deduction

Middlesex CCC 2017

But don't forget that Surrey were not too far behind

So an early declaration could have meant they would have lost the 5 points for drawing the match

From the BBC Blog at the time

An interesting finish is still in prospect at the Oval if Surrey can pick up these last three Middlesex wickets fairly quickly. There are, in theory, 39 overs left in the game and the visitors currently lead by 162.

Somerset CCC on twitter today

"We have the final pitch report back from the ECB. It remains "below average" and there will be no points deducted"

Reading stuff on Twitter from Middlesex commentators Middx were told by the umpires that although their over rate was slow they would not suffer a points deduction because of the circumstances involving the crossbow bolt.

They do have a valid argument here

Clearly our tactics for the last few games of the season were determined by the points we needed to achieve in order to avoid relegation, and for this goalpost to move retrospectively would be inequitable to say the least.

Middlesex CCC 2017

So they would have prepared a better pitch if Somerset would have needed an extra 2 Batting Points

Pitch was fine. Turned a bit. your spinner got 11 wkts. We had 3 good spinners. Blame your coach. He knew what to expect!

Middlesex CCC 2017

Somerset had to get a result in the game and prepared a pitch that made sure this happened. When they won the toss, the win was virtually guaranteed. Hildreth's batting and the Middx team capitulation made it a certainty.
Had Middx had the two points more….MIddx would have been 18 points ahead and Somerset could not have risked preparing a below standard pitch as they could not have afforded both sides to get just the three bowling points each. They could not have prepared a seamer friendly pitch as Middx could have invoked their right to bowl first and would have had a good chance of a win.
A decent pitch would then have been prepared, giving Middlesex the additional chance of getting the batting bonus points that might have sent Hampshire down instead. As it happens the reinstated points would put Middx above Hampshire too.

It was described as a below average pitch. Standard was fine.

RELEGATED

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/41644508

Cricket Discipline Commission chairman Tim O'Gorman said: "Middlesex have sought to argue that it was only because of the abandonment of the game that they did not make up their overs, but that cannot be entirely correct.

"There was no guarantee that, if the game had run its normal course, those overs could ever have been made up.

"I do not accept that Middlesex only agreed to the abandonment of the match on condition that their slow over rate in the first innings would be overlooked.

"It is not within the power or gift of either the umpires or the players to make deals like that.

"The match was abandoned for safety reasons. Play ended accordingly and the points earned or deducted should stand with effect from that time."
