Mike Block

I'm currently trying to track down as many former players as I can to try and add their autograph to my collection....
Mike Block is one that I'm really struggling with so I'm hoping someone on the forum may have some info on his current whereabouts.

No info on his whereabouts either. He's an old fella now! Not sure you'll be lucky in finding out where he lives.

Mike Block = cult hero. Hat trick scored against the RaRas in Auggust 1966.

Believe he joined BFC from Chelsea.

If I remember correctly, Mike Block switched from the right wing to the left wing after Mark Lazarus joined from QPR :mad1:, and replaced George McLeod on the left. He certainly came to us from Chelsea, for a reputed £5,000 I think (which was a lot more money in those days). Good player (ex England under 21 or 23). Perhaps he went to Watford after he left us.

You could email Peter Gilham at the club (his email will be on the BFC website) maybe he can help,through perhaps Alan Hawley or Peter Gelson but there are not too many players left from that vintage unfortunately.

I think I have posted before about the power of Mike Block's shot. he very nearly knocked my mate out in about 1965 with a practice shot.
He was definitely one of those players who you remember long after they have moved on. Those were indeed the days.

He left Brentford and joined Watford for one season, after that went to play for Chelmsford City.

Mel Scott was a real hero but Mickey Block was something else to an 8 year old. My wife was amazed as I looked at the photo and named ever player instantly. The memory fades a little, but I have a feeling that Mickey Block and Mark Larazus scored over thirty goals in one season whilst playing for the Bees. Whatever their goal tally was unbelievable for two, what were called wingers in those days.

In front of 17,00 plus if I recall - legend!

I believe in the 1964/65 season we had FIVE players who scored 10 or more goals in the season - Ian Lawther, Joe Bonson, Mark Lazarus, Billy Cobb and John Fielding.
