Did anyone see this last night?. Was disgraceful behaviour by the Inter fans. Why on earth did Dida go back into the penatly box. He got hit with a flare and sustained 1st degree burns to his shoulder, he is so lucky that he didn't get hit in the face. Inter should face a massive fine, play games behind closed doors and be banned from Europe for the next five years.

Milan Derby

good to see that there's still passion in the game ! :D

only joking !

5 Year ban from European Competition 'should' be the fine but they're not English so it'll probably be that their next European home game will have to be played behind closed doors !

Milan Derby

I watched the highlights when I got in and could not believe the amount of Flares thrown on the pitch. The ITV reporter went on the pitch at the end of the game picking up the missiles which included whiskey bottles, coins, flares and an umbrella lol

I could see why the Inter fans were p!ssed off though the ref was awfull, Shevchenko should have been sent off for a blatent headbutt and then scores a screamer then when Inter score a perfectly good goal he disallows it and books the goal scorer?!

If they were English all English clubs would be banned.

Milan Derby

20,000 euro fine and 3 games behind closed door for european clubs

5 year ban for english clubs

Milan Derby

Given all the speculation about Chelsea being chucked out the competition, a 3 year ban should be fitting !!
Really think they will get away with it !!

the other english clubs weren't involved in this, and the roles of the Belgian Police, Roma and UEFA were all pivotal, as you well know :nono:

as said - if this happened in england, there'd be trouble. it's about time UEFA stood up to the rest of europe :nono:

Hopefully UEFA will grow a spine and act accordingly following the incidents last night. While the referee may have made some poor decisions during the game it does not excuse what happened to cause the abandoment of the match.

I think that Inter should be banned for a minimum of two seasons from European football. While i think we can all appreciate this in no way compares to Heysel and 39 dead supporters, it is a problem which it appears is growing in Italy. It would hit them financially as the chances of attracting the star players would be so much more difficult with no European football to play for. It took the English teams another five years after they were re-admitted to Eurpoe to win and start challenging for the trophies again.

Banning all Italian sides would not be feasible, or necessarily fair. When English clubs were banned for five years it prevented Conventry City (1987) and Wimbledon (1988) entering into European competition. And who can honestly say they could imagine Conventry or Wimbledon fans running riot across the continent?

Problem is of course, Spainish clubs and FA get fined a few hundred pounds for the continual and growing racial abuse from the terraces. Roma get to play a couple of games behind closed doors following the missle hitting Anders Frisk.

So i would imagine they will get a fine, and have to play a few games behind closed doors next season.

I think we all agree that the ban on all English clubs was unfair - although if you remember what things were like in the 1970s and 1980s, it was understandable. However, to call for a similar ban on all Italian clubs, following a far lesser incident than Heysel, is just hypocritical, IMHO. If it wasn't fair to impose that kind of ban on English clubs, then it isn't fair to impose it on all Italian clubs. End of.

However, a severe penalty on Inter Milan is surely called for. But again, when making comparisons to the punishment on Liverpool, it must be remembered that nobody died at the San Siro yesterday.

Milan Derby

Heard yesterday that Italian fans (not sure which club) chucked a moped from the second tier of a stand recently.

My question is simple - how the f**k do you smuggle a moped into a football ground?

Perhaps UEFA could begin by looking at the Italian security setup?

If you make sure to take the petrol cap off it's not a problem. :)

it can only be a matter of time til somebody DOES die in one of these situations - have you seen the debris on the pitch?!?! glass bottles and flares, i wouldn't have liked to have been Dida...

bans for years and years might be over the top, but somebody has to stand up to this sort of thing. i always thought prevention was the best cure...

I completely agree.

People can say that no-one was killed so it's not worthy of a very harsh penalty, but the fact is that had that flare hit Dida 6 inches higher he would have probably been blinded at the very least, and with the amount of debris raining onto the pitch it could very easily have been a lot more serious.

You can't say don't ban them just because their supporters' aim isn't very good!!!

IMO Inter have had more than enough warnings in the past, I seem to remember only a few of weeks ago their fans rioting yet again, not to mention the moped incident. I think they should be banned from European competition for at least one season, or maybe have to play half or a full season behind closed doors. Either way, something drastic needs to be done to teach these clubs a lesson.

I won't hold my breath for UEFA to do much though. Perhaps a £2,000 fine and a stern telling off? :(

I think there also needs to be a drastic overhaul of the Italian security and safety at football matches, which goes without saying really.

I'd give it a couple of weeks if UEFA don't crack down :(

Italian football is a completely different culture, and so the violence and abuse which comes to our attention is happening on a smaller scale in a lot of the stadia across the country. The stewarding is poor, but only because if the stewards try to step in they could end up in hospital.

Unfortunately, the pillocks at UEFA aren't going to do anything, again, and so other than a measly fine and a couple of games behind closed doors,I can't see a lot else happening, and so the problem will continue.I hope UEFA prove me wrong

Wasn't it the Georgia v Ireland qualifier a couple of years ago where an Ireland player was hit by a knife thrown from the crowd?

Georgia were probably forced to write "We must not throw knives" 100 times.

You think Inter are bad poor old scousers have to go to Juve tonight and if juve are losing the game I bet that there will be a lot more missles fired and not just at the players.

So someone has to die for a penalty to become stiffer. If several players were only maimed by flares, debris or whatever else the punishment could be reduced because they aren't dead

Milan Derby

I'm confident that even UEFA can see that this incident is far worse than the Roma incident, and the punishment will be a fair bit stiffer.

But surely what is really needed is a Europe-wide ban on taking fireworks into stadiums, and punishments for clubs whose fans light flares on the terraces, regardless of whether they are thrown on the pitch. Several fans have been seriously injured in the past, and one died in South America.

The problem as I see it is that this whilst this is a valid point it doesn't mean its acceptable. UEFA seem to use this as an excuse over an again,
"Racist Spaniards"- very common in Spanish games, let it go
"Italian fireworks" - the Italian game just wouldnt be the same without it, let it go
" English hooligans" - scum, ban them for life.

In my opinion all 3 are just as bad and equally dangerous in their different ways. A severe penalty on Inter is the way to go. I would suggest banning them from European competition for the next five seasons that they would otherwise be eligable.

I heard similar on the radio and thought exactly the same!

I haven't seen the match, but the catalyst was the referee disallowing a "perfectly good goal" (in the words of a fivelive commentator), not that I condone what followed. But with so much at stake, isn't it about time referees became better at their jobs - and not just at Coca-Cola League One level?

You sound like Graham Souness.
"IN NO WAY does it condone their behaviour, but..."

Making the link IS condoning it, in a funny way.

The performance of the referee should have nothing to do with people getting hurt at a football game.

Think about it in terms of someone convicted of GBH - you wouldn't expect the same sentence as someone convicted of murder, would you?

What about Armed Robbery and Murder. Would you expect them to have the same sentence :fishing:

If you were to ride a moped into Griffin Park whilst holding a bottle of Orange squash (complete with top), you would probably be stopped and asked to hand over the offending bottle top.Once you have handed over the offending top you will be allowed to carry on your way (moped and all). Now at this point you have to think on your feet and convince a Gold Range steward that the moped doubles as a Stanner stair Lift and as Brook Road Upper dosen't lend itself to getting your moped up top you will need his help, now he's in trouble as it's not his turn to have the walkie talkie so he can't ask his boss for advice, so he will wave you through (moped as well) thus giving you the chance to chuck the moped at first Northern Monkey that upsets you.Job done.

Don't you need to set fire to the moped first? In which case you'll need to do it before the smoking ban is introduced! :D lol :fishing:

But surley if the referee didnt cock up so many decisions (not sending off Shevchenko and disallowing a perfectly good goal) then the Inter fans wouldnt have been so p!ssed off.

Perfect timing for Inter really as any games forced to be played behind closed doors will only be those in the group stages where continental teams struggle to get gates of more than about 10,000 anyway. Some punishment.

no-one's thrown any donkeys :nono:

i can see both sides of this - just cos the ref is sh*t doesn't mean you can go round throwing stuff, but at the same time (and this side gets ignored too much), UEFA should appreciate that fans get irate because of appaling refereeing decisions, and should do something about the ref concerned!

Two of which are "suspended"...big deal.

I gather 84 police were injured in Italian league games last weekend, a normal sort of league programme I guess!!

UEFA will only do something serious when a death or deaths happen, which will not be long on current form.
