Yankees are looking at a number of starting pitchers, e.g. Fulmer. The AL East next season is a 1-2 between the Yankees and Red Sox, the loser will still almost certainly bag a wild card spot. It’s bad news for the Blue Jays, Orioles and Devil Rays. Can’t see any of them getting close, and having to play that many games against the Yankees and Red Sox hurts their chances of being the second wild card.
Yankees also rumoured to be in for Manny Machado.

Cubs? Very strong likelihood a year from now they will sign Bryce Harper. They need to re- tool their starting pitchers, it’s doable.
The Mets meanwhile are still short-changing their fans, don’t want to spend. They’ve also been shopping around Matt Harvey, to little interest. I’m hoping Micky Callaway is as good a managerial appointment as the early signs suggest. He’s very good with pitchers, so if the core of their rotation can stay healthy (a big ‘if’), they should be competitive.

Your last statement is a nice concept but what they may play once every 20 years in the WS or 16 times a season???

My point is ideally it wouldn't be an either-or.
Barcelona and Real Madrid can meet in a Champions League final, as could Citeh and United or even Arsenal and Spurs.
And the sixteen games a season pales into insignificance when compared to the prospect of a seven game World Series matchup.
And judging on yesterday's antics, a Steelers v Pats Superbowl would be a treat, but it can never happen. For some reason, American sports always seem to have to divide themselves into two parts.
And the Designated Hitter rule - I'd throw that out for a start. There's no reason other than sports politics to have an AL and an NL, but Americans are so conditioned to it, they accept it as normal.

Im not sure they would agree, pretty certain the home games versus each other are all sells outs - replace that with 8 games against the Brewers for example? Doesnt make financial sense.

Sorry, but I really don't see you point. The regular season would be no different, or doesn't have to be. Nobody's depriving the Sox and Yankees of games against one another.
But when it comes to the post-season, throw the names in a hat once you've sorted out the wild card games, or have a draw when it's down to the last four teams left in it.
It ain't difficult to figure.

So you’re saying they’d both stay in the American League East?? If that’s what you’re saying then fair enough. I was coming at it from one team going to the NL. If so, I wouldn’t like to change history. The ALCS is their World Series.
