Nice piece in today’s Observer about the Mousehole AFC (Tiny Mousehole AFC rises up football leagues but potholes are a problem). Looks a lovely spot for a pre-season visit :cool:

I was born a few miles up the coast. Lovely feature but there are a lot of problems far beyond what's described in Mousehole. Complete lack of affordable housing, young people move away or live in sheds and tents above town, grinding poverty for many local people whilst the second home owners scream around small country lanes in their 4 by 4's. Glad the football club can provide some light relief, there's quite a vibrant lower league football scene going on in Cornwall.

Definitely a mixture of grim and picturesque down there. Cornwall was my ancestral homeland (Mevagissey) until my grandmother escaped to Brentford in the 1930s, but I’ve hardly ever visited. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere on the GPG, my mate Dan is the kit man for Mousehole and does other jobs at the club as well as hosting one of the players as a lodger.

They use (or at least did use) the ground as a campsite for vans etc during the summer. We stayed there for a night back in 2019, and I remember thinking the pitch was in really good condition. I think there had been some developmental partnership with Nike or something similar, but I don’t recall any of the details

Chatting with my mate this morning who is the kit man for Mousehole AFC, he told me that the club’s manager, Jake Ash, is grandson to former Brentford striker Billy Dare, who played for us 1948–1955, and was inducted into our Hall of Fame last November.

Sadly for Seagulls fans, the Mouse didn’t roar. So it is visitors St Austell who go on to face Falmouth Town in the Final.

Out of the FA Cup on Saturday, lost away to Brixham 4–3. Conceded 3 from set pieces, apparently. My mate reports management not happy.

Good news is that the farm track which led to Mousehole’s Trungle Parc ground has now been laid with tarmac, due to opened by Prince William sometime soon. This will make Brentford’s pre-season visit that much easier next summer.

Every season I always like taking the FA Cup trail starting at Mousehole AFC, now its on to Brixham in the next round.

Brixham is a very friendly cub. Went there whilst on holiday a couple of seasons ago when they beat Shepton Mallet worth a visit and Brixham itself is lovely

To correct my myself, the new road is additional to the track rather than an improvement to the existing track. As my friend there says, “the pothole experience is still available”.

Bumper crowd of 742 at Trungle Park for Mousehole’s 0-0 v Falmouth on Saturday, and apparently record match-day takings to boot. It won’t be long before Hollywood slebs and rappers come knocking!

Just had a message that Storm Goretti has done a bit of damage around the ground, with advertising boards ripped off, fences and flag poles broken, ridge tiles blown off the club house, and several trees around the grown uprooted. Main stand and the new 100-seater stand appear to be OK, but there’s a fair few repairs needed otherwise.

Decent result that.
Bishops Cleeve are in the Play Offs.
