My mum recently said she wished that we still played 'We Will Rock You' when we scored a goal.

Neither my Dad or I remember the club doing this, so is it selective amnesia (IMO it sounds quite tacky when clubs play music when they score) or is my mother just going mental?

I remember it being played in the 94/5 FT Index season. It seemed to be stopped after the 4-3 win over Bradford (Forster last minute winner) when the away fans started singing their own version to acompany the City goals.

Personally, I'd rather we never scored again if scoring meant I had to listen to "We will Rock You" or anything by that overrated bunch of tw*ts. I like almost any other kind of music, but Queen are a royal pain in the *ss.

I'm with Warren Bee on this one. Although music before the game and at half time is acceptable, playing music when a team scores is as much of a show of weakness of support as having a drum or a band to try and get the crowd going.

Good point you've only got to look at wolves this year who play some sad tune whenever they score! but i do remember HIHO i'm afraid but as they were the Royal Oak days my memory is slightly bias. Brentford til i die!

Power game for me! It was the only one I liked. Thought Hi Ho was embarrassing. It probably suited us because we were (apart from McCullough) a team of relative short ars*s. (Phillips, Shrubb, and the towering centre half, Pat Kruse etc.)

However MC Gilham excelled hmself that season upon the last day when we clinched promotion when he faded in Hey Jude to accompany the Scunthorpe/Aldershot result. Respek

I agree. Went to see the Perth Wildcats play when I was in WA, and it seemed the music they played (Attack! Attack when they had the ball and DEE-Fence! DEE-Fence when they didn't) was a pathetic attempt to get some atmosphere.

BTW, anyone remember when (I think it was) Hartlepool tried to put crowd noise over the tannoys during the game - about 20 years ago - it got banned by the FA?

"Power Game" for me as well. Wasn't there a short period when "Amazing Grace" (horrible bagpipe version) was played? "We Will Rock You" was awful and I remember the Luton fans taking great pleasure in singing it after Ashley Bayes tragic OG in 92-93 season.

I don't know any of the lyrics, I don't know if it ever gets that far before cutting into another song.

So sorry - major omission ref Brian Turner!! Even taking into account his bloody awful perm when playing for NZ in the World Cup, he was a Top Man. When we beat Exeter (Bobby Ross penalty) to get up from the 4th, we all went (I mean, the whole crowd) for a lap of honour around the pitch, and I suddenly fell in alongside BT. He was utterly amazed at the scenes. As I recall, he had no idea just how much the Bees meant to the crowd. I think he thought we all turned up week after week because we had s*d all else to do. But a top player though: always gave 110%.

I could deal with the Brentford Babettes (?) at half time for a couple of seasons, they were good, but I would hide my face with embarassment as the sounds of laughter filter over from the away fans if we had cheerleaders waving pom-poms everytime we scored

I might be showing my (relative) youth again, but I can't recall a chant to that tune in my time at GP.

Theme to run out to? The Power Game, A friend of Rudolph has lent Mr Gilham this track and he has played it recently too.

The Mike Oldfield track was In Dulce Jubilo and was awful.

As for someone playing crowd noises over the pa, Portsmouth also do this - ask Mr Romsey Bee who attended the recent south coast derby.

As for the Babbettes - is Rudolph alone in feeling uncomfortable in old gits learing at such young girls in gear like that?

I think @Peter G will be the authority on this. In my recollection it was late 1970’s as I took my daughter to GP between about 1978 and 1981 and it was the only thing she liked about the experience!

Definitely remember some wintery days with it chiming along but thought it extended beyond the festive period. Must have been played quite a bit as it got thoroughly etched into my psyche in my formative years and I wouldn't have heard it much outside of Griffin Park. Don't remember Portsmouth, but maybe that was earlier. ?‍
