Today was another poor display from Elder IMO. Maybe it's worth a try putting O'Connor up there for a game

Charlie again today ran his heart out, I wish NE would put in the same amount of effort.

Nathan Elder

We would have lost without him. :grey:

Nathan Elder

Perhaps if others had been running on to the countless headers he won................

Am in Spain so can´t comment on today´s NE performance but I will reiterate that he is still learning the game and will make rookie mistakes and also has to learn to cut out needless bookings given that his natural style of play will always attract the referees attention.

He now has a suspension to look forward to after getting his 5th booking today - hopefully it will come in 2 weeks time and he will miss the FA Cup match rather than a League game.

We are all entitled to our opinions but mine is that we have a potential nuggett here and that NE, if he continues to progress as he has, will be playing at a far higher level and will have made us a substantial transfer fee within 2 years - unless of course we have gone up a couple of divisions by then!!

He has strength, pace, height, holds the ball up well and can finish as his record in non league shows. 4 goals in a dozen or so games so far this season - a one in three ratio is also perfectly acceptable.

He has much to learn and is still accustomising himself to playing 2 games in a week.

Yes he makes mistakes and misses chances but he is a fantastic partner for MacDonald, never gives his opponents a moments peace, and has the potential to become an exceptional player.

Now you can all shoot me down in flames...

Nonsense

I thought he did well today. There are times when we need to change it around a bit up front and we don't have anybody to do that which is disappointing. He's suspended now for Tuesday so we will see how we get on without him. Hopefully better than the first half at Aldershot !

Nathan Elder

we were watching i differnt game 1markbee,

I can't believe what fans see in him. Today he very rarely chased the ball, too many times he just stood watching it. How many headers just go nowhere. I really do hope he learns and improves.

He's available for Tuesday and misses Rochdale

I think you're crazy personally, he won an enormous amount of ball and gave Shrewbury's centre halves a very difficult afternoon. He may not have the individual skill of Charlie Mac but he's equally as important to the team imho. I think he and Charlie are starting to form a very useful partnership.

Nathan Elder

I'm not Elders biggest fan but I actually thought he had a good game today. He won pretty much everything in the air.

Half decent defenders find him easy to mark as he's so predictible and he goes missing in games. I think if we had other options to partner Charlie I could see him banging in 20+ this season.
We have a rock solid defence until Rochdale then we lose the most talented centre back the club has ever had, IMO he's better than Turner, Ingamarrson and Sodje, but we'll have to do without him after Rochdale and it will be time for Mr Elder to do what he's paid to do....score goals..

Nathan Elder

I hope he starts every game - I would lay money on "stopping Elder" being the biggest consideration an opposition manager has before any game with us. Do we have to drag out the "crap strikers in the last 10 years" lost to see why we should appreciate him? I haven't seen an affordable player in our division who I'd rather have. Did Holt cause any more problems than Elder today and he's supposed to be the best in the division.

Nathan Elder

I was sat near the dugouts and Andy Scott was fuming for a lot of the game about Nathan Elder's lack of effort. Too often when the ball was played on to him he was too hesitant or not aware to make anything of it.

Problem is we have nobody else like him to challenge his position. Moses clearly isn't ready yet and anyone at Aldershot will testify that Williams isn't a striker.

Christ almightly.

I'm not going to have a go at the defence but we haven't kep a clean sheet in the last four games (five if you include Luton) - it's not faultless back there.

As for Wilson being our best centre back ever, words fail me. He's good, no doubt - but we have had centre backs who have played at the very highest level, Hreidarsson for one.

Wilson hasn't played a game outside the bottom division.

For the record I think 1markbee is making a fair comment here - but North London also has a point. Elder brings a lot to the team with his physical presence, but still has a lot to learn about positioning and general forward play. If he had the footballing intelligence of Charlie Mac he'd probably be in the Championship by now, but far too often runs down blind alleys (a great example today when he was breaking with Williams and neither found space or pulled defenders away from Marvin, and the move broke down).

I've got a lot of time for Elder and I do believe he always put 100% in, so let's give him a chance over the season. But agree today was not one of his better days - the Shrews centre half seemed to have his measure for most of the match.

Nathan Elder

Nathan is still raw and doesnt read the game as well as he might do...yet. Think that's what frustrated AS & TB

Absolute garbage, not worth bothering to explain what he adds, thank god others have

Nathan Elder

defence's find him hard to cope with, chesterfield will testerfy they put two men on him all game, he is a young , raw talent. GET OFF HIS BACK

Nathan Elder

Its been a long time since we have had a centre forward who wins as many headers as Nathan Elder ... as others have said , he is young, raw and a real handful for defenders !

Nathan Elder

SPOT ON JIMBEE any stato out tell me how many he won and where was the follow on , lets go back a bit andy mcc and steve phillips thats a parternership, his just lacking a bit more support imo .Then the flood gates will open ,:wave::wave: ref was s/ite no bottle should have been a couple of reds aswell

Nathan Elder

He had two shirts ripped today by two different defenders who were their to ruffle him. He had a hard days work which in all honesty i believe the defenders won however the fact that they put two defenders on him shows what a threat he is. He changed the game at Aldershit. He is a good player who is big, half decent in the air and strong. You cannot play midgets up front in league two, fact. Every club has centre backs like Hayward who would have a field day against little fellas like Moses especially when we have to go route one.

Nathan Elder

I hope he starts every game - I would lay money on "stopping Elder" being the biggest consideration an opposition manager has before any game with us. .

I think that might change.. Shrewsbury put two men on MacDonald today and it almost worked out for them. I think he'll probably end up being the oppo's major consideration. Elder won a lot of headers but we were never anywhere near winning the second ball.

I thought he worked hard today though, and does provide us an outlet, however we need to be careful we don't get over-reliant on that like we did today.

The simple fact is, anyway, there is no-one else, Williams is no striker and Moses, whilst promising, is far too lightweight for the heavyweight style contest of todays game..

Nathan Elder

It was tough for Nathan today - two big opponenents who roughed him up throughout the game.
However , that's what to expect in this league and if NE is to be dropped we have no-one with the physical presence to replace him at present.
Some larger players please Andy.

Nathan Elder

Too good for me to be a bench warmer. Moses wouldn't coipe with the tough defenders. Elder works hard in the final third but fails a little in the box. We are a poorer team without him for sure.

Everyone needs reminding that we are over achieving this season!

more poop from an NE hater!

Every time the ball was thrown/passed/hoofed! up to NE he always had 2 or 3 players on him, the away teams know he is a huge threat and so 'double up' on him, he has huge support from the fans, including me.

another NE hater, your opinions are crap, NE is a player many DIV.4/3 managers would love to have, as for Wilson, he's a class act, but he's still learning, Turner is better as is Ingimarrsson, they've proved it in the premiershite, Wilson will probably get there, but he may need to drop down a division or 2 first.......... :fishing:

Nathan Elder

Thanks for the complement... but next time please get it correct and begin with big. I guess AS is one too hey. I'm sure NE was dropped recently for some reason!?!?!?!?!

Let's see what happens when AS finds the forward he is looking for.

Wouldn't football be boring if we all agreed!

Nathan Elder

We'll struggle v Rochdale i fear, unless Monty is called back, or Williams has a stormer!

You are mad.

Nathan Elder

Anyone for Callum, he is doing f*%£$k all and he cost us bucks!! As for over achieving, we seem to have a manager who can source the top end of whats available on loan.. I trust AS at the moment to replace like with like be it a loanee or a sale, give the man credit where it is due for christ sake!!

Nathan Elder

I always thought that Brentford had its fair share of tossers as supporters go but after reading some of the snide comments about Nathan Elder - I know we have more than our fair share

Nathan Elder

I'm not Elders biggest fan but I actually thought he had a good game today. He won pretty much everything in the air.

I like you am not his greatest fan, but he won a lot more headers today than in the second half last week, but his headers do seem to go all over the place
and we do not seem to get any midfielders up into or around the box to take advantage of the knock ons, the central midfielders appear to advance just past the half way line and then stop so we have limited players up front to pick up the chances.

Nathan Elder

I havent been for a while so I will take the flak that will come my way, but, I really get the impression that we are being ' Managed' by someone who as a personal affinity with the club instead of a fly-by-night who is gonna break the bank to better their career then f"!ck off if it goes wrong! Look at how far we have come since butcher went, i was one who thought AS should have gone as i thought he was part of the problem, he hasn't used any excuses or references to being under Big Tel, he has just gone about his task and done (in my opinion) a bloody good job.

Nathan Elder

Nothing wrong with opinions that is what this is about but after our start... In Al Murrays words..... SHAME ON YOU...you are 2nd in the division... SHAME ON YOU.. you aint lost since the first game of the season.......SHAME ON YOU..if this carries on you better decide if you want custard or ice cream on your humble crumble.
I dedicated this minor rant to an annoying few, I appologise!!

Nathan Elder Has limited experience as a pro footballer, and rightly so as he has probably only played twenty odd games. Reality check needed here guys, he is a youngish guy learning his trade. and he gets sweet **** all off these mickey mouse refs that turn up at gp these days. Keep going Nath:sorted:

Nathan Elder

Can't believe some people still don't rate Elder, he was excellent yesterday winning headers all day, despite having no protection and being elbowed, yanked and everything. The problem he has is he has his shirt ripped off practically every game yet no ref's ever give anything for it. Seems its not a foul these days.

Nathan Elder

He is just what we need to get out of this division and I doubt there is a team in it that wouldn't sign him having seen what he has done this season, like Bean he does a lot of the graft and the dirty work to allow other players to shine.

If Williams can up his game consistently as he has shown he can then oppo defences are going to worry big time about playing us as the mixed combination of NE, Charlie and Williams could be pretty hairy for them.

Nathan Elder

Macdonald has scored 6, Poole 5 and Elder 4.

Elder is our second best striker. Nough said. Give they guy some credit.
The three guys above are the ones who can take us out of this division. Complaining about Elder is ridicoulous. He is a battling ram up there and give the defenders a hard time during 90 minutes. Who else could do that in the current squad? Who else do it better in this league??

Keep going Nathan!!
