NBA Playoffs

a 34-pt, 12 rebound performance from POINT GUARD (  ) Jason Kidd last night extended the Nets streak to 9 wins in a row and puts them one win from the Finals

Dallas lost in San An the night before....

EAST
(1) Detroit Pistons 0-3 New Jersey Nets (2)

WEST
(1) San Antonio Spurs 1-1 Dallas Mavericks (3)

If i were betting I'd go with San An, just cos of Duncan, but the Nets are looking good.... i just worry that they wouldn't be able to contain TD

see the Cavs won the Lottery and have already said they'll take LeBron - is this kid REALLY all that?! he's only 18 ferchrissake!!

NBA Playoffs

EAST
(1) Detroit Pistons 0-4 New Jersey Nets (2)

WEST
(1) San Antonio Spurs 3-1 Dallas Mavericks (3)

Get those brooms out cos the Nets are a-sweeping!! 10 playoff victories in a row for New Jersey, the 3rd longest streak in playoff history

The Mavs are playing to stay in the playoffs tonight, and will be hoping that German superstar Dirk Nowitski recovers from the knee injury that has forced him out of the last two games, both of which Dallas have lost...

NBA Playoffs

EAST
(1) Detroit Pistons 0-4 New Jersey Nets (2)

WEST
(1) San Antonio Spurs 3-2 Dallas Mavericks (3)

a second half comeback saved Dallas last night, Game 6 in Dallas on Thursday....

I would be nice to see Dallas win it, as they have Steve Nash in it (he's English). I think that Dallas have more foriengers than any other team in NBA history, which will prove that American's aren't as good as they reckon. So I'm going to root for the Mavericks for the reminder of the season as the Bulls never looked like having a chnace of reaching this stage. Go Dallas!

i wouldn't support Chicago for a while if i were you!!

is Steve Nash not Canadian? i forget - i know they used to have him on channel 4 regularly when the coverage was on there, but i think John Amaechi at Utah is the only Englishman in the league. Maybe Nash was born here and raised in Canada or something  (this is what drinking too much alcohol does to your memory kids :nono: lol)

game 6 tonight, i don't mind who goes thru, Dallas are more entertaining but i think San An are the better "team", technically...

Steve Nash is Canadian by nationality but South African by birth (to English parents). His family moved from Johannesburg to Victoria when he was a kid.

i do remember seeing him once talking about "soccer" (as only americans can do) and saying his favourite team were Spurs :nono:

These days, as Rick Barry* is always telling us, American ball clubs recognize that most European players are better disciplined in the basics and there is a rush to sign the best European and South American players. Many high schools and colleges have taken notice of this and the training methods are changing. I think that the Europeans should take a lot of pride in th e way they have moved to successfully challenge the American dominance in the field. No more dream teams for a while.

* Rick Barry was a US basketball superstar in the seventies

Oh, well my mistake, but I do think he has something to do with the UK. I know that the Bulls are probably one of the worst teams around at the moment, but I can't just turn my feelings off. They are on the slight up though I think, because I don't think that they finished bottm of the Central div this time around, can someone please confirm.

hey you weren't FAR wrong, he has english parents and used to help with the basketball coverage in England too, tho i think that's just cos Beverly Turner fancied him...

i'm not sure where Chicago finished, not near the playoffs but they are improving (you couldn't get much worse...), Cleveland finished bottom of the central division in their chase for LeBron so Chicago were spared that "honour" this year at least....

San Antonio held the Mavs scoreless for over 7 minutes last night as they came from 71-58 down to surge ahead 81-71, eventually winning 90-78 booking their path to the NBA Finals in the process. The Mavs, one of the highest scoring teams in the NBA this season, scored NINE points in the 4th quarter

So, starting June 4th in San Antonio, the 2003 NBA Finals will be between San Antonio Spurs and New Jersey Nets - should be good!!

San Antonio Spurs to win

I like the Spurs to take it in five games, six at the most.

Man that's purs impressive! A 23-0 run, that deserves to win a match alone. I think now that the Spurs will win it. So, yet again another victory for the West. How many is that in a row now? 4 I think, since Chicago won it last my memory tells me. I can't see New Jersey winning it, San Antonio all the way now.

NBA Playoffs

i think New Jersey CAN cause a shock, tho i'm still backing the spurs. Jason Kidd's been incredible, the Nets are on a roll, Kenyon Martin might be able to keep hold of Duncan, and the Nets have a good squad, as well as Finals experience last year...

i think the Bulls was 98, Pinch, then San Antonio, Lakers, Lakers, Lakers, so the West have won the last 4

NBA Playoffs

finals starting tonight, don't expect New Jersey's 10-game winning streak to continue though...

NBA Playoffs

San Antonio take the first game. Tim Duncan scored 32 and got 20 rebounds, while Nets' star Jason Kidd was held to 10pts...

NBA Playoffs

Robinson hadf a good game as well I see. I've just watched the games on Sky sports Extra. Is the next game still in San Antonio?

NBA Playoffs

Spurs up 2-1

San Antonio won game three tonight 84-79. Maybe the worst ever game in a championship final. Everybody stank the place out.

the series goes 2 games in San Antonio, then 3 in New Jersey, then the final 2 (if needed) in San Antonio

Spurs are 2-1 up, Game 4 tonight. Tim Duncan is averaging 24 pts, 16 rebounds and 4.3 blocks - crikey

can see the Spurs closing this out soon, though New Jersey will still be fairly happy - the Devils won the Stanley Cup 2 days ago in Ice Hockey, so at least the city has something

The problem is that few care about it. New Jersey is not a city but a state and the folks in the north all root for New York and those in the south all root for Philly.

Yeah, shame about the hockey, by mate's mad about Anaheim so I was rooting for them. Played poorly in game 7.

77-76 win for New Jersey ties the series at 2-2, Richard Jefferson finally getting going with 18 points. The Nets putting up a fight!!

NBA Playoffs

2003 NBA Champions - The San Antonio Spurs :bound:

Game 6 last night ended with a spurs win, clinching the series 4-2. David Robinson, in his last professional game, got 13pts and 17 rebounds to close out an illustrious career. Tim Duncan secured his place as finals MVP with a stellar 21pt, 20 rebound, 10 assist and 8 block performance

Rumours now abound that Jason Kidd, the Nets star player, who is out of contract this year, will go to the Spurs, the team out of the leading contenders who has the most wage room avaiable now that Robinson has retired. With Duncan now really starting to show he will be one of the great NBA players, a combination of him and Kidd would make San Antonio formidable next year!!

NBA Playoffs

The Spurs undoubtly deserved it. Good to see someone other than L.A. winning it for a change. That was a great 19-0 run in the 4 th pperiod and that alone deserved to win the game. Congrats San Antinio!

NBA Playoffs

Well done to the Spurs (my pick also) and a likely back-to-back winner next year given that the East are generally mediocre and the West will have the Kings, Lakers and Mavericks ready to knock each other off trying to challenge. If Kidd does go to the Spurs, there will be several panicky General Managers looking to make blockbuster trades given the lack of $$$ room under the salary cap. Should be an interesting summer.

I am hoping that the Warriors sign Arenas and show in the playoff running next season. I know it's a very long shot but it's long overdue in the Bay Area as memories of Rick Barry in 1976 are wearing thin.

i think if Sacremento stay together, they'll be the other challengers - losing Webber in the playoffs put paid to their title hopes this year, whereas if he'd stayed fit, the match-up between the Kings and the Spurs would have decided everything...

am gonna try and get some sort of NBA coverage in England next year (don't believe it's on terrestrial, so may have to get satelleite at my student home  ), if only to see if LeBron's all that
