Completetly disagree, if O'Connor is a mid table league 2 player then what the hell are Bean, Dave and Hunt because Kevin is a better player and more consistent than any of our other centre midfielders. I agree that we need something more in midfield and he's not exactly the most inspirational of captains but to say he doesn't deserve to be playing in league 1 is ridiculous especially the way he's performed since we got promoted. Kevin O'Connor is not the problem!!!

I partially agree KOC isnt a bad player but IS highly overrated, slow and is not the answer. I agree about bean, dave and hunt to but to be fair hunty at least is quick minded and positive will always look for the forward pass if poss and the Dave of last season and some games this season is imo better than Kev!!!! I think KO deserves a crack at being a captain when KOC isnt playing!!!! I have never rated bean, he has had some good games but is nowhere near good enough!!!!

Negativity

So because he's being positive he is a loyal fan, some on hear may think a rose tinted sunglasses fan, but if that is your description of a loyal fan, who am I to disagree. I just don't like the way we play, nothing to do with results, which have improved lately, that is the reason why I want AS out. So if that doesn't make me a loyal fan so be it. I'm sure we wont go down with him in charge, but when the testcard is becoming more watchable then Brentford I'm sorry its time for him to go.

**** me thats some spin there. I was just pointing out that its a shame that he feels he has to get away from here because if you don't hate AS you get shouted at and called a nutter.

Negativity

No,

There's two of us, nice loyal one club man but realistically is a mid table League 2 club, right back. How he is a League 1 midfield player and captain to boot is beyond me, can someone put me right but I can't remember an inspirational captain for BFC since Paul Evans.

I will hold my hands up and admit KOC has had some stick from me on here before. But simply going on performances this season he is streaks ahead of Dave and Beano, can't really compare Hunt as he has not been given a chance.

In my opionion, it has to be KOC plus one other.

I bigged Dave up massively this season, going on his performances back end of last year, but so far he has looked off the pace, his stick legs are struggling to get involved and when he runs he looks in worse shape than Mark Phillips.
Beano is a real tryer, but his actual footballing ability (passing, running with the ball) is very limited, and he just does not have the compusure or footballing brain to open up the opposition.
Now Hunty, this is a weird on, an absolute professionnal, and probably the most gifted football of our central 4. But as much as I love him, he always seems to be a just a yard off the pace in the middle, but currently I would still give him a go as he has ability in abundance, calm on the ball, can pick a pass forward, and can offer us something offensively.

Would love to see KOC and Hunty given a starting role in the middle tonight.

It depends what the question is, if it's do we want an experienced player who reads the game very well who can break up attacks and get the ball to more attack minded players then I think he is the answer.
The problem lays elsewhere in midfield.

KOC may not be the fastest runner in the team but reads the game very well and is invariably involved in covering the early threats to our defence. Although unlikely to make a defence splitting forward pass, he rarely wastes possession and looks to change the direction of play. Hence, he is ideally suited to the defensive midfield role and one of our most effective TEAM players.

An on-form Bean has the potential to provide the attacking drive we need whereas I have never really worked out what Diagouraga brings to the team.

I agree that Hunt should be used more. Good dead ball delivery, excellent team attitude. Not sure of his best role though.

As for negativity - anyone ever listened to the Gooners at the Emirates?

Totally agree, as said before KOC is not in my opinion the answer but at present is the best out of a bad bunch!!!! KOC + 1 for me in the middle!!!

Partially fair but i have seen KOC lose the ball on many occasions due to his slowness to react. its not neccesarily that he has little pace but seems to be slow to release the ball and have seen him lose possesion on many occasions!!! Bean for me has no real attacking ability!!! When he gets the ball his first touch is dreadful and people think hes good because he gets stuck in but the fact is hes usually getting stuck in when he has lost the ball in the first place!!!

As for KOC, I don't think he's the answer, but it's the AN Other alongside him that we need more at the moment. I think we need a centre forward as well.

For me the most obvious problem is the midfield and the lackl of consistency that all 4 regular centre mid contenders have displayed so far.
It appears to me that our midfield sets the tempo of the game and against teams we could have expected to be under the cosh against, we have started really well and dictated matters by pressing play high up the park and if not dominated then stopped the oppo playing and in turn creating more space for the widemen.........specifically thinking of Sheff Weds, Charlton and Everton with Kev supporting Dave.

I watched us nullify Brum brilliantly over 90 mins with Kev and Marcus getting to every second ball and winning or competing for every 50 50 ball.

What I haven't seen is us able to maintain this tempo against most teams at this level and as we don't have the flair or killer passing to change a game, there are times when we look like headless chickens who chase around but aren't good enough to get the ball of the oppo. How we get that consistency is one I can't answer but we can give ourselves an option by acquiring a leader in midfield, capable of dictating matters week in week out.

Negativity

My last post for a while because of all the negativity on here.

When are the good folks on here going to realise that the gpg has degenerated into an absolute hatefest towards the club that I love. It seems that nothing the club does is going to be good enough for what now seems to be the vast majority. Yes I have had my say about Andy Scott, the level of style the team are playing and other things all things Brentford but no more.
And no this is NOT a direct result of getting a 10 pont infraction yesterday( by the way 10 points? jeez how many to get a full ban? because I will gladly go for it the way this website is at present. I will now just carry on supporting from afar and listen in to beesplayer and steer clear of the gpg on a saturday because it is one of the most miserable, negative, and above all bitchy website on line at present. if you all crave success that much go and support Chelsea, Fulham or dare I say it even QPR because too many people on here think we have a divine right to the same success our near neighbours are having at present. We are a LITTLE club, have been for years and will be for the foreseeable future. the quicker people take off there rose tinted specs and come to that realisation the better we will all be.
My next post is likely to be towards seasons end when I do the draw for the shirts for the sponsorship kits. I wont be doing it next year becasue I am out of pocket and despite pleas on here for people to stump up the cash and someone actually sending me a PM saying dont worry I will chase them for you I have recieved none of the shortfall so that has come out of my pocket in between hospital visits.
So thyere we have it I've had enough. bye bye fare thee well and enjoy the depths of despair you so crave. I am going to quietly listen to bees player, attempt to get to a few matches this year and hope that we are still in existence, rather like myself in a few years time to see us play at the mythical Lionel Road.

I will give out the details of the shirt winners when the draw happens. and for those that did pay. My heartfelt thanks. for those that didnt? well you have my pity as you are obviously suffering more than me in the credit crunch. I am not going to name anyone as that is against the so called code of conduct which reads a little bit like mein kampf in places, but you know who you are.

Apart from the money thing of which I can not comment.... I have to say you are living in cloud cuckoo land if you think we have the most negative fans around.

Go to any league game in any division or any web site and you will get the same.

Some people love moaning, some people are too thick to remember the good performance three days earlier, some people still think we are crap when we win 7.0 because they are happier that way. But it is not just us, it universal.

The biggest moaners are the most vocal and are the biggest posters.

If I was you I would get your money back first (I get that bit, I organise an annual lads ski trip and it is the same old faces that never cough up their deposits leaving me out of pocket for months), but then I would grow a thicker skin and just ignor it.

I agree. And as NLB said elsewhere, it doesn't have to be a Fabregas, just someone with a bit more about them, a la Evans, Sidwell, or Pratley. For me a part of the problem is that the touch of all our midfielders is poor - they struggle to bring the ball under control quickly and that means they're under pressure by the time they can do anything with it.

It seems i must be, i like things like 6 games unbeaten and 3 defeats in god knows how many games 16 is it ? I don't think we play as much direct stuff as people say. For every Bournemouth there has been games where we have played good stuff. We have a lot of new players and we have had injuries to forwards all season. I think we are going in the right direction and am looking forward to the rest of season. Quite why i get hostility for thinking this is another question.

Good post Nick :sorted:

I've seen a great many worse seasons than this, some real grade A crap, but I can't say I am particularly enjoying this season. I can't put my finger on the reason either and suspect it is a combination of over-expectation and the fact that we probably couldn't cut it economically in the Championship anyway. The role model has to be the likes of Doncaster but they, at least, like to play football and get the ball on the ground and pass it which we do not appear to want to do at all. When I first came to GP in the mid-60s the New Road contained a huge amount of moaning old gits and slow handclaps often used to start there. I may have lost the insane "sleeping giant" optimism of my youth but I'm not quite ready to embrace old gittery quite yet. Probably another couple of seasons though.

In my 49th season now I just enjoy turning up to see my old mates and have a drink. I like being in GP and standing on the Ealing Road. I Love shouting at the ref when he's a c**t and sing at every possible opportunity. Everton was fantastic but for me winning is always a bonus to what is generally an enjoyable day out. You either love it or not, and I love it. When I stop loving it I'll stop coming.

Exactly, the doubters don't want us to lose , they want us to change the Manager so we can start moving forward.

Until that happens this club is treading water - could even get worse than that

Just to be negative we are without the suspended KO and Pim on Tuesday and I think McCracken is injured so we are down to own fit centre half

Going out of the cup on Tuesday would be a blessing. Even if we scrape through we have a humiliating televised defeat at Dover to look forward to.

Lets play Peter Gilham at CB.

he wouldn't allow them to play him in the cup
because of the possibility of just this eventuality

It's bound to be us isn't it. I can picture it now. Yet another awful 120 minutes at Aldershot concluding in a penalty shootout, which we are now accomplished at. Scrape through into round 2 and have the country laugh at us yet again on live tele. Dover are a very well-run club indeed. I would not fancy our chances there.

As for Pim and KO leaving us low on centre-backs, I could put a positive spin on that quite easily if someone wants me to (well, more so with Pim anyway).
