New Captain?

New Captain?

I would have thought that the potential new captain must be more or less guaranteed a starting place.
I don't think anyone should be guaranteed a starting place. If they don't deliver when selected, drop them and put in someone who does. IMHO.

In a good team you hardly notice who's captain as players all over the pitch are showing leadership.

New Captain?

Karleigh Osborne has a brilliant record as Brentford captain, and can do no wrong in my eyes :sorted:

I have written to my local MP and Peter Gilham about this.

New Captain?

What's that got to do with anything?
Who do you suggest as captain then?

I've not a clue if Adam Newton or Marcus Bean would be captain material or not

I'm unsure why 'without a shadow of a doubt' you think they're captain material.. As I say they've not yet played a game for us, and unlike David Beckham they've hardly got a big reputation across England. So unless they stood out for you as captain material in the past, it seems a bit early to assume they're captain material.

Not having a go, just curious.

Fair enough. I guess it's all about opinions. No problem :sorted:

In principle I would agree with you, but IMHO the player named captain should be more or less the first entry on the team sheet for each game. Something like Gerrard, Terry etc. Or in the case of Brentford the likes of Keith Jones, Terry Evan etc. I don't believe that the way the squad is shaping up that KOC and Connell are in that category

New Captain?

I think Ryan Dickson is worth a shout. In the games I saw him play he leads by example - he is a confident player, one who I would reckon is going to be an ever present this year, has some experience and would be vocal (in a nice way!) if he needed to be.And he is one of our best players IMO.as well as choosing to come to Brentford rather than Darlington (who were better than us and were for a long time potential promotion candidates)

New Captain?

ryan dickson can be made king as far as i'm concerned, as long as he's not playing left back.

New Captain?

Kevin O'Connor for me. Playing at Right back with Newton in front.
Loyal, longserving, one club man with exceptional consistency at the top end of the appearances and goals charts despite more injuries than he deserves.

That's the bad old days of British employment. Promote someone because they've been in the company a long time rather than having an aptitude for the role.
KOC is not a captain. This has already been proved.

Completely wrong. KOC was dropped in it by Butcher, Roy Keane would have struggled to get anything out of the dross Butcher had bought into the team, give him back the armband, he'll do a decent job now.

Mackie was Butcher's captain.

i think you need to read up on the last 2 seasons to get your facts right

i can;t see it myself, although you 'big up' the lad which is credit to you!, i can see it being Newton, Bean or the new CB. KO needs to concentrate on his game first.

I admire his ability to marshall photographers at corners, ask markbfc :fishing:

.........and your lover

New Captain?

I seem to recall WBA having a system where they voted for the captain on the day of the game once the 16 was announced. I don't care who is captain as long as we get the results.

New Captain?

i'll be captain. shall we do that?

New Captain?

that's settled then. i can take the squad to matches in my truck.

New Captain?

Go for it Big Nigel.

 i'm sure i don't know who you're talking about. how are you? good?

i'd go for a defender as captain i think, but not Karliegh, i think it'd be too much to put on him for now.

New Captain?

Bean or Newton for me

New Captain?

Foregone conclusion now, I assume - but I would imagine there will be some sort of announcement this week on the official site about who the new captain is?

New Captain?

No obvious choice is there.

Been bugging me all weekend this - where are the leaders in our side? Who are going to be the players who turn into right bastards when they're losing? This is a tough division and we don't seem to have moved on since Leroy in getting players at the club with that nasty streak.

New Captain?

Newton was given the armband due to his experience, but is too quiet by all accounts.Poole and Elder were apparently very vocal on Sat but a lot of it was at each other and they were in each others faces,so thats no good.Kevs the obvious choice but he turns into a jellyfish if he wears an armband.Maybe Smith if he can stay injury free?I guess Pearce will get the gig if he ever makes his mind up

New Captain?

I agree.

AS talked after the game about going three at the back in the closing stages in an attempt to get something out of the game but I saw nothing on the pitch amongst the players reflecting that desire, no-one driving the team forward.

New Captain?

Think it's vital that we get in a leader who can boss things. A Talbot, Hargreaves type of player in midfield who will mix it and look after the "footballers" and someone akin to Heywood at the back guding youngsters through the game and developing them into better players.

If we don't acquire that type pf player or those that have been brought in fill the role, we'll struggle. It's not all about natural ability, it's important yes, but no more so than teamwork, guts, effort and a refusal to accept defeat.

We did go 3 at the back and kept passing it back to them and then we all groaned when they punted it forward. Don't keep reminding me how seriously sh*t it all was.:D
