NEW GPG

As you can see, The GPG has a new lick of paint.

Recently the messageboard has become extemely unstable and as our user license has expired, I feared the worst.

The basic GPG scripts have been built up with bolt ons since we launched in APril 2000, but this has made the platform a bit shaky.

Some of the major casualties is private messaging, which is now in your profile, but all the previous messages have been deleted. I'm sorry for the lack of notice but the think the board was on the point of implode.

The next step in the summer is to convert this board, which is coded in perl, to a database driven website written in php, much like the one used at http://www.cpfc.co.uk, that will give more stability and functions. Roll on the Div One GPG next season!

Can I point out teething problems now or would you rather I waited till the board's been up for a few days? (Not wanting to be picky, as this obviously took ages to set up as it is! )

1) Where exactly did the "Private Messages" option go? Maybe I misunderstood.
2) Instant Gremlins= great idea, but is "Graemlins" (sic) a typo, or am I misinformed?
3) I presume the "Close topic" (etc) images are in the process of being replaced, since I just noticed one of them change. Am I right in thinking this?
4) I also presume the other menus like Preferences will be back in action soon.
5) Will we ever get our tags back like Coaching Staff, Legend etc?
6) The Forums summary page tells you the last thread replied to and the poster of it with a direct link (a notable improvement). However the forum page itself no longer names the poster on the list, just the date and time. Is this permanent? I think it is nicer to have the posters name, but maybe that's just me.

2 things:

1) The Hop To: at the top needs to be updated for the new URLs
2) On the front page, it says who the last post was by, but on the list of topics in a forum, it doesn't; please could the list of topics show this too, so that I know which topics I've looked at and which I haven't.

Personally, I like it. Just like 'The Dugout' (championship manager site) I always thought that was good. I like the way you can see who has posted on a certain topic.

Also faster, and with my PC that is most welcome!

I've deleted quite a few, hence the difference.

As for enchancements, they will have to wait till June when I convert this into a database driven messageboard. hopefully making ti even faster..

how do I now alter my preferences? Every time I visit a new forum, it returns to the defaul 20-day topic view, when I usually have it set to 1 or 2.

If you don't login before you start to view the GPG like I do you have to actually login before you post a message where before the login process was at the top of the message you were posting.
That apart it looks good and a lot faster for me. I found it really slow last week.

Yeah I think this is the biggest fault with the new board.

Why does it matter who is browsing the boards? Surely it's the posts that count.

When I clicked on preferences at the top of the page, it came up with the following error mesage:

Error including required files: Can't locate UltBB.setup in @INC (@INC contains: f:\webchaps\GPG\cgi-bin c:/perl/lib c:/perl/site/lib .) at f:\webchaps\GPG\cgi-bin\ubbmisc.cgi line 39. Make sure these files exist, permissions are set properly, and paths are set correctly.
