The Crewe fans dont rate him.Nelson was watched by a lot of clubs some higher leagues than us,I hope Allen has a good look at him before bringing in some one else

Allen had him on loan at Barnet so maybe it was just a deadline day loan to cover for Nelson's suspension.

I am glad that Crewe confirmed this as I posted that we woul dprobably make a move for him.

It will be interesting if we try again in the Summer or look further afield.

if we sign him (or anyone) we will have to release one of our current keepers; Nelson is certainly on a deal beyond the end of this season, and I thought Julian was also, but may be wrong. There's no way we can afford 3 professional keepers; we'll presumably have Josh Lennie as no 3 for short-term absences, and would sign up short-term loanees if a keeper were injured.

Though I would have welcomed an experienced keeper for the last few games of this season, I would be happy to see Nelson and Julian as our 2 for next year as they both have potential

Bankoke is 34...presumably he is not a long-term solution for anything. Nelson has looked promising, but MA obviously thought that Bankole might be an upgrade until the end of the season.

In our situation I guess we could do with experience all over the pitch.

Fitzgerald supplies it in defence, Talbot in midfield and we have looked better as a result, even before Allen took over we looked better with those 2 in the team albeit for one game.

Adding extra experience in the run-in would have been a good idea, but I'm not sure he's a long term answer. From what I've seen Julian and Nelson are better.

If you read the article he is being released.

He won't play for Crewe again, unless it is this season.

God I hope not I was very very unimpressed with Clayton Ince in both games we played against Crewe last season and if this guys behind him it doesn't fill me with confidence. I've only seen Nelson once so I can't really comment on him and have only seen Alan Julian (he looked a tad nervous) once since Smithy left I still think he is a very capable goalkeeper who is just lacking a bit of confidence. Prehaps hes not ready to be first choice in a relegation battle just yet. I think Julian will be a fine first choice keeper next year when the pressures off and Martin Allen has improved his confidence, come on it wasn't to long ago we were all singing his praises and going on about how we could afford to lose Smithy because Julian was so great. Also there was even talk of dropping Smithy for Julian after Smithy's suspension earlier in the season. We all agree Julian is a great shot stopper and good on one on one's. Yes hes a bit nervous on crosses but this is because of a lack of confidence. Julian will come good.

JULIAN FOR NUMBER ONE NEXT YEAR.

Sorry, I can't agree. You build successful teams through the spine and that means good and preferably experienced goalkeepers, central defenders and central strikers.

We need to do this next season if budgets allow - look at the difference that Talbot (once he settled down) and Fitzgerald have made.

I would oike a tall keeper who dominates his box and talks to his defenders.

Julian has yet to mature and in my view would really benefit from a loan spell in the Conference or even Rymans League where he would get bashed about a bit and learn his trade. He is not yet ready for a regular league spot.

As for Nelson, who knows ? He has a totally different style of keeping, playing more as a sweeper keeper. He is fast, agile, a good kicker (not when it is windy !) , talks well but is not physically imposing.

I might (as usual) be wrong, but I doubt if either will be what MA is looking for next season.

New Keeper........maybe.

I think that if the outfield players can be sorted to play with discipline, the problems in goal become less acute. This season we've been generally so poorly organised and weak that even a keeper of undoubted quality like Smith leaked a lot of goals. Julian's confidence since MA's reordering of the team has been much higher than you would expect of a player who had been ignominiously dropped as Wally's final throw of the dice and who had played so ineptly in our late Downes capitulations.

Nelson also might be able to progress behind a more settled team. Both are players who are worth developing after having built a reputation for having good keepers (both Woodman and Dearden continued to have decent careers at clubs at the same standard as us since leaving).

As we will once again need to bring in a new strike-force (and/or sign May) I'd rather MA's efforts went on this and on getting the outfield right. If we can also get a ready-made keeper who can help to develop Nelson and Julian that's great, but otherwise, I think both of them could flourish anyway.

:nono: :nono: Ince is quality. However Bankole is not... He can't catch or kick unfortunately. :( The worst display I have ever seen was Shrewsbury vs Crewe (4-2) in the LDV last season when he started for some reason. One goal kick went over the stand to the right

New Keeper........maybe.

Whats wrong with Nelson he looks quality, and we've won two games with Julian in goal.

New Keeper........maybe.

I agree about Nelson; although I've only seen him once, he looked pretty decent, although he possibly seems to dash out of his goal a bit too easily. If that can be tempered a bit, I'm pretty sure that he'll be an excellent find. After all, clubs in higher leagues than ours were interested in him.

I've said before that I feel that Julian is a great shot-stopper, and if he can overcome his reluctance to come off his line (provided he is confident enough of being able to catch the ball), I'm also pretty sure that he will also be a very good prospect.

In fact, in a season or two we could well have two top class goalies vying for the number 1 jersey.

From what I've read about Bankole, however, he does not seem to be anywhere near that sort of quality. I understand the reason for looking for an experienced goalie to do a job for a year or two (possibly mainly as cover), but from what the Crewe fans are saying, perhaps MA should look further afield. (Although who am I to advise MA what to do as he's certainly been a top bloke so far!!!)

nelson is a good column to have in the goal, were never genna sign oliver kahn or gordon banks but admiral neslon is a fine choice

I suspect that assuming Julian goes MA will bring in an experienced freebie keeper over 30 years old who will be happy to back up Nelson, help him develop and be ready to step in in case of injury, suspension (I am certain Nelson will get himself sent off at least twice per season given the way he plays) or temporary loss of form (always likely in a young inexpereinced keeper).

Bankole would fit the bill.

The theory is good if the finances are right.

Can we afford an experienced keeper as back up?

Is in the Chronicle that Lennie will be back up keeper next season!

New Keeper........maybe.

Be interesting to see what Mr Lennie is capable of in the friendlies as I have a feeling judging by how defiant Martin is being over the whole thing that he may have a bit of talent. Shame about Julian who I felt was more then an adequate deputy espeically as I remain convinced that Nelson will get sent off a couple of times next season due to the way in which he plays.
