Your 4 point League table looks pretty much the same as the current 3 point table.

Didn't the conference run with a new points system (or whatever the conference was called about 20 years ago) which gave a greater points returns for an away win or draw?
Sure it did when the likes of Maidstone were right up there.

can see ur point (excuse the pun) but to get anything away from home is harder than playing at home, unless ur team is called Brentford.

4 nil home defeats surely deserve a point ot two. If you play your joker and get two in a row then how about a "Blatter Bonus" of 5 points and +4 on your goal difference?

I seem to remember that (seriously) about 30 years ago there were regular riots at matches in Greece, and the clubs received a point when a match actually finished.

Why niot treat the season as 23 two legged cup ties and whoever wins on aggregate over the two legs gets a bonus point in addition to the points from each match

I think the effect of a change wouldn't be a major change in the table - there might be minor movements, particularly below the top half dozen teams; the effect would be more (temporarily) on the way a team approached a game.

I think that the limited effect on the table is fair enough. Is a team that (say) wins 3 and loses 3 out of every 6 games better or worse than a team that wins 2, draws 3 and loses 1 out of 6 games?

They would both have 9 points under the current system.
With the 2 point system, the first team would have 6, the second team would have 7.
With another system the positions might be different.
That's why the unofficial cricket tables pre the 1870s vary so much: each newspaper decided on who was better, and it proved tough if one team won 5 and lost 1 while another won 4, drew 2 and lost 0. Especially tough since they played different numbers of games.

Maybe folks should look at the USSR who, during the 1970s, limited the number of drawn games you could have (sometimes 8, other years 12).

How about the scoring system the Scots were pushing for:

1 point for a draw
2 points for a win
3 points for a glorious defeat
