Hobbsy says the trains are screwed and it involves all sorts of changes and weird sh*t 😔

For now Ive booked the flight up and will work out coming home on the Sunday later when the options/time is less of an issue . My boy at Durham so will take the opportunity to check on his progress (student union bar)

Is this the line you will use in the aforementioned student bar ?!

I always pretended to be a professional footballer called Nicky Forster and said “show me your growler “

I see no reason to change tactics 27 years on

Booked train home on the Monday for £25.90 on Lumo trains. Perfect crime.

The Saturday night flight that used to be a half decent option for getting home seems to have vanished. I used that after the 5 30 kick off a few years ago and for Sunderland this season

It’s a summer schedule flight, starts again in April.

Do we think they'll do 20% off trainline for this or have they stopped doing that now?

Just booked flight up from Bristol on the Saturday arriving 14.35 for £15 with Easyjet.

Train back to Trowbridge with Trainline on Sunday £39. Flight £94.

Assume you mean hotel £94?

Sorry. I meant getting train back as the return flight is £94. I'll put with the 6 hour train to save £55.

Looking at around £70 for hotel.
Aha. Yeah makes sense. Good support mate 🙏

Even the sunday trains look a bit screwed as well! Any ideas/tips would be welcome
Somebody mentioned changing at Doncaster and Sheffield (I see Nick has also mentioned this).
You can also cut across to the west coast line and get a train back from Preston / Lancaster / Carlisle maybe?
I will investigate tomorrow when the half price offer comes along.

I am travelling up on Thursday - going to the darts - so staying until Monday is a bit OTT even for a nice weekend break!

Working from train?

a mix between that and being a bit late for a true half day. in many ways its the perfect crime

Well initial look at the sale doesn’t look great for us for this one. Anyone find any good deals?

Direct trains with LNER will not be running this weekend due to engineering works.

However, there are three alternative routes to get to the game:

  • The first is to go from London Euston to Birmingham New Streetthen change for Cross Country services to Newcastle. This will take just under 5 hours.
  • The second is to go from London St Pancras to Sheffield then to change there for hourly trains to Newcastle or change again at Doncaster if faster. This will take just over 4 hours.
  • The third option is to take a 3-hour train from London Euston to Carlisle, then a 1-hour journey onwards to Newcastle.
To comfortably make kick-off from any of these departures, you will likely need to leave before midday.

Please note there are no trains back on the night of the game. The last train back is during the game itself, before the second half starts.

To get back after the game, you will need to travel the following morning. There are two options under 5 hours to ensure a faster journey back. Firstly, the CrossCountry service to Tamworth, where a quick change to London Euston is needed. Or, alternatively, changing twice by going via Doncaster, then Birmingham before a third train back to London Euston. These run hourly per respective route.

Upon arrival, St. James’ Park is only a ten-minute walk from the central Newcastle station, but St. James' Metro station is adjacent to the ground. This is on the Metro Yellow Line. Crowds can get busy here after the game, so we would advise walking in groups back to the city centre.

Please check the conditions of your ticket when booking to ensure your ticket is valid.

Surely reducing the coaches to at least £20 would of been a good idea on this one? No direct trains and no flights after back home.

Suspect we won't even take 800 with the efforts needed on this one.
