If he can play at a higher level it may be simply that Oxford knew they couldn't match what he'd get elsewhere. Or they simply can't afford to take on another CB.

Interesting one. Couple of quotes from KR there as to why his contract wasn't renewed,, but I'm sure we've done due diligence as always:

“There were a few things internally, so we feel it’s the right decision for the football club.

“He goes with warmth and what he did for us as a young player was second to none.

“It just shows you, it’s not the end of the road for him in his career.


“I think he feels going out playing men’s football and being released is better for him and we felt it was as well.

“We didn’t see him playing much next year, because of what happened this year.”

First view of him last night at Hampton. Head and shoulders above others in the B team. Literally. He's a massive unit.

Played on the left of the back three. Fantastic at bringing the ball out, some great runs, opponents bounced off him. Pretty quick for his enormous size. Probably not as quick as Oyegoke who played on the right of the back three. He also looks like he could be something special. In between them was Hockenhull who is also a giant. I didn’t realise he was so tall.

First time I’ve seen them, so not based on much, but Jones and Oyegoke both looked better than Hockenhull. I didn’t think his distribution was as good. They said Crama was on the bench and I assumed it was him who came on in midfield, but it seems it must have been one of the trialists. Looked like Crama.

Reading this post, I've never felt less like a Bees fan. I haven't a clue who you are taking about, any of them!

Had a feeling about Crama when we signed him, same with Koutsimouka. Crama is maybe the only one in the b team who doesn't seem to get regular game time other than Hercules. Hercules seems to be good on occasion but maybe relies on pace and strength a bit too much, seems like an Adama Traoré type player

Adama Traore ! Whatever our criticism of him if Hercules gets anywhere near like him I can see him getting a 5 year contract. Dream on!

No, not that he will be Adama Traoré, but his style seems very similar, they both rely heavily on speed and strength, someone the kids enjoy watching but maybe not as good as we need technically

Oyegoke is more of a RB/RWB, B team tend to play players in slightly different positions from time to time, sometimes through lack of bodies but presumably also to give them an all round view of the game..

I used to coach with a guy who used to make forwards defend with a rugby ball in training. Dick head tbh.

Will be interesting. Oyegoke and Fin Stevens are very different players. First impressions suggest to me that Stevens is extremely comfortable as a conventional right-back and is superb defensively, whereas Oyegoke looks at home carrying the ball forward with tremendous pace in the wing-back role.

Again based on very limited watching time, I’d almost say the same about Lewis Gordon and Val Adedokun on the left side.

Back to Nico Jones, though. If the B team do tend to try and give players other experiences, I’d be fascinated to see him in a defensive midfield role. Looks made for it.

Possible, though training support I imagine. Cox, now fourth choice keeper, seems to have remained with the first team squad.
