I miss it so much
GP was a bit like a really comfortable armchair, that had seen many years service, but you never wanted to get rid of.
She surrounded you with that long time familiar feeling, cosiness, and a sense of enjoyment and ease, almost regardless of the result.
A bit like the old armchair, yes the stadium was battered and falling apart in so many places, but you forgave all that just because it was our faithful old stadium who has given us so many memories, so many ups and downs, and the fact that we had stuck with her through so many years, and for me decades.
When I was a lot younger living only some 800 yards from GP, I loved walking across the railway footbridge by Brook Road, passing on the way a Coca Cola (or similar) bottling factory, and seeing the welcoming towering floodlights!
And regardless of afternoon or evening kick-off, it was always fish and chips after the match from a place a few yards along on the Great West Road from the original Dome garage by the Ealing Road roundabout!
Happy memories, when Brentford FC wasn’t really know to anyone but us few thousand who went, despite all the scorn and "Which team? Why?" from so many others!
