No to EPPP

Hi Bees,
I'm a Crystal Palace fan and we're trying to drum up interest in a petition against the EPPP. There's a group called 72Unite over here: http://twitter.com/#!/72unite who have set up a petition with the government. You can get to the petition here: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/21314

Anything that attracts 100,000 signatures has to get voiced in parliament. 20,000 to make the first page of petitions which means it’ll get media attention, 8,000 to make the second page.

Its already on the first page of the Media Culture and Sport but needs 40,000 signatures to be the biggest in that department, 16,000 to make the top 5.

We've had a couple of protests in the ground at Selhurst Park but there just doesn't appear to be any buy-in from anyone in power. This leaves it down to the fans to do something. The only way we can be heard is to get together as football fans to get this noticed.

I don't know if you guys have an academy that will be affected or not, but anything that can be done to promote this amongst the fans up your way would be a bonus.

For those unaware of the EPPP, see here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15381652.stm

All the best for the rest of the season.

I personally don't agree with the EPPP, and think it verges on tyranical behavious by the Premier League clubs - happy to sign the petition. However, I hate to say that I don't think there's a chance on affecting the introduction of the EPPP at all - as I understand it, the Premier League clubs match (or higher) the cost of running the Acadamies, and this is something that certain clubs in the Football League really need help with. As the vote has already been cast, I can't see it being reverse at all I'm afraid!

Given that we are investing heavily in youth development these days I fear that nothing good will come out of this for us. If we produce a good young player we will never get the pleasure of seeing him pull on the Brentford shirt. We will not be able to console ourselves with a fat transfer fee. Instead a premiere league team will poach him for virtually nothing (between £12 and £40k)

I am not sure how much extra the premiere league are promising to put into the lower league youth programme but I can assume it will in no way reflect the impact this could have on lower league clubs and their finances and ability to run successful youth setups.

Now that the horse has bolted, why don't we start a petition to have the stable door closed?

:imwith: Think you've missed your chance with this.

The Premiership might have created their (Trojan) horse but they have not, as yet, unleashed it onto the youth academies of the league clubs.

The PL & FA would love us all to roll over and accept their decision that according to the football league will mean that between 30-40 club youth academies will close if the EPPP plans come into effect.

Thanks. We've added over 1000 to the petition in the last 2 days. Still a long way to go though so if anyone can pass the message on facebook, twitter etc that would be really appreciated.
