I received a call from The Portsmouth Evening News on Tuesday who asked for the Club`s response to Kevin Harper`s allegations of racist remarks made by a supporter at the Reserve match.
I asked the reporter if he was at the game (which of course he wasn`t).
I told him that I was, that there were between 50 and 100 spectators at the match (there was in fact an official attandance of 102), and the chance was that if any racist remarks had been made, I, together with everyone else, would have heard them. I told him that that wasn`t the case, and also remarked that I was surprised that a complaint hadn`t been made at the time, for had it been we, the Club, could have done something about it.
I reiterated the Club`s stance on racism and that we were fully supportive of the "Let`s Kick Racism Out of Football" initiative which is currently in full flow, and which we are promoting fully on Saturday.
I said (and this seems to be a pretty imotive subject at the moment) that there was more likelihood of supporters making a complaint about the obscenities they would have heard (and I plainly heard) players using at that match.
While I`m not in a position to categorically state that the incident did not take place, for others may know differently, it must be noted that it is one man`s assertion that it happened albeit in retrospect.
