Good to hear from you all. I’ve been here in Central Otago for about 3 years.

The only non Man Utd or Chelsea shirt I’ve seen around here was a Fulham one, what are the chances?

I was talking to a Kiwi today I met today who was a keen football/soccer bloke (rather than rugby). He said he didn't have an English football team and supported Wellington Pheonix in the A-League. Thought that's a bit more normal than the plastic Australian EPL supporters I'd met while living across the ditch.

As I'm getting a bit old I hate the Shepherds Bush team rather than the River Rats as I remember the attempted take over. I tend to have a chat to anyone I see in blue hoops down under and they're nowadays too young to remember the Rs trying to commit clubicide* against the Bees.

*clubicide - to kill a football club. (First time used on GPG but got it from a mate when they threw North Sydney out of the Australian Rugby League to increase TV money)

Yeah, the takeover was about 10 years before I started going in the late 70’s.

I spent the best part of 40 years watching lower league football and I moved out here in 2018, just before they got really good and into the Premier league.

I haven’t watched much A-League, it’s just not the same.

My old house mate Murray is the 7th Kiwi, who supports Brentford on this thread.
Played in goal for Beesotted a few times, not GPGer but Deffo a Kiwi mate.





*Although he's been in the UK for nearly 2 decades.

4 more and we have a team.

Perhaps Brian Turner (1970 to 1972) is still available. I know he was assistant coach of the all whites a while back but not sure he was a Bees fan. Pretty sure he still lives in New Zealand. We'd then be three short of a team.

Superb, I work for a company called Number 8 (Zinzan Brooke CEO), and for six years having been trying to convert them to support Brentford and get away from egg chasing. I can at least now say that there are Bees fans in NZ. The fight goes on.

We have an office in Nelson South Island), and he's slowly showing a lot more interest.

I was in Mapua earlier this month & went to Nelson while we were there, seems like a nice area to live.

My son wears his Bees kit to football training so we’re doing our bit to spread the word.

Brian is still around I believe and while West Ham is first love he still follows the Brentford games with interest

I have just seen ex Bee Brian Turner on the New Zealand 6pm news and he is looking in good health. He was in a segment to promote a new book about New Zealand Football

The programme can be seen on catch up on https://www.tvnz.co.nz/shows/one-news-at-6pm/live it says only available for another couple of hours and a VPN set to NZ will likely be needed. He appears at around the 50 minute mark. He discusses flying into, and playing in, a war torn Vietnam.

Difford jnr going home to see his mum in Auckland for six weeks over Xmas/Jan so they'll be one more for a bit.

Must be easier following them now than back in early 90s when I got up at 3am to tune in the World Service on a SW radio to hear second half commentary of a boring Division One game in the hope of hearing a score update from Division Three, then finding out who scored a week later when my Mum sent out a cutting from the Gazette.

It's much better now with every Premier League game on SKY. I'm a bit old now so if it's after midnight or before 6am I have to record and avoid the score like in the "Likely Lads" episode here No Hiding Place then watch as soon as I get up.

Many years ago in Australia before the internet I wouldn't know the Bees score until picking up the Monday morning paper on the way to work.

Hope Difford jnr has a good visit and with covid numbers on the rise here hope he stays safe.

Only just noticed this thread.

I lived in Wellington 2007-2010. Only once spotted a Bees shirt. It was at the bar of the Basin Reserve for the England test match. I was quite excited to see another Bee: he wasn't! ? Any Bees in Wellington now?

Ended up being a regular watching the Phoenix. It was a good laugh. 4k supporters squeezed into a block of a 30k stadium. We'd meet at a bar downtown before a game to make up some chants (it was mostly Brits), then head to the cake tin. A bit weird and manufactured but fun all the same. The football was sh*t, but I'd just left us relegated to league 2 so used to it!

Had a surprise call from very good long time friend (back to 1960s away travel) Eddie Evans.
He and NZ wife have just left UK and settled on North Island.
Great to be able to stay in touch with WhatsApp and keep him updated of Bees.
