Olafur Gottskalksson

Sad way to end his career (presumably) but the account of the incident makes it look as though he'd fail an IQ test as well as a drugs test.

Asking the testers "what happens if I've taken one of these?" and then saying "well I won't take the test then" leaves him with even less of a case than Rio. He should have taken the test, and if something turned up, tried the "I never realised the puffin I ate was on steroids" line

Despite that, appreciate his play for us and would wish him good luck with whatever he does in the future

Oli does a runner

This seems quite out of character to me but despite what Ace Face say the press never get it wrong.....

An international goalkeeper who refused to take a drugs test has been suspended indefinitely by the Football Association.
Olafur Gottskalksson, an Iceland international playing for Torquay, has vanished since refusing to take the test in January - even leaving behind his girlfriend.
The 37-year-old is the first footballer to be officially named by UK Sport for breaking anti-doping regulations since new rules came into force last year.
He is also the first player to be banned for refusing to comply with a drugs test since Rio Ferdinand was given an eight-month suspension.
Meanwhile, the FA have also suspended indefinitely another footballer following a third positive for cocaine. Under the rules, the player is not named because he returned a finding for recreational rather than performance-enhancing drugs.
Gottskalksson, a former Brentford and Hibernian keeper who had had a contract with Torquay until the end of this month, is thought to have returned to Iceland.
Torquay chairman Michael Bateson told the Press Association: “The players were at the training ground at the end of January when the drug testers turned up. He asked to look at the list of banned substances and asked what would happen if he had taken one of them.
“He was told that the test would be positive and the FA would be informed and he said ’I’m refusing to take the test’ and packed his things, left the training ground and we never saw him again.
“We tried to phone and write but couldn’t get in touch. He moved out of his flat and just vanished - he had a cracking girlfriend but he even left her behind too.
“In fairness, I am sure he had not taken any recreational drugs. He had had a shoulder problem for several years and if he had taken anything then it was probably linked to that.
“His disappearance left us in the lurch - we had a nightmare season for goalkeepers and I think it was that incident that eventually led to us being relegated to League Two because we only went down on goal difference.”
The FA have imposed an indefinite suspension on Gottskalksson until he appears before a disciplinary hearing and asked FIFA to extend the ban internationally.
An FA spokesman said: “Gottskalksson was charged on April 8 with a breach of FA regulations for his willing and knowing refusal to submit to drug testing. He failed to reply to the charge and his case was dealt with in absentia by an independent disciplinary commission.A

Yes, I also laughed at that.

The man's right too... but can you imagine Steady Eddie making such a statement about one of our players' partners in similar circumstances. :D

i don't think he has a defence at all - hence why he's disappeared. bless him. will always fondly remember him for his larking about at the end of the LDV final...

Olafur Gottskalksson

and for chucking the ball into his own net at scunthorpe in the cup :sorted: ;)

Olafur Gottskalksson

the drugs he took were probabaly to help him overcome the injuries he had

Olafur Gottskalksson

I seem to recall that the players' pen pictures in the LDV final programme (written by one Paul Gibbs) said that Oli's nickname among the players was 'Smokie'. It obviously took the FA a while to catch up.

There is an article in today's Mirror saying Torquay's chairman Mike Bateson is blaming Oli for their relegation as they only went down on goal difference and he had b*gg*red off by January!

Olafur Gottskalksson

His girlfriend really was cracking, wonder if she needs a shoulder to cry on :D

Olafur Gottskalksson

A mate of mine who has just returned from travelling in Iceland was told by someone out there that Oli 'had died as a result of his drug problems'. Can't find anything on t'net. Anyone else heard this?

Olafur Gottskalksson

Spookily I was googling him just yesterday! I heard he got done for armed robbery so was checking it out! I got as far as seeing he was on facebook and had a bees top on and 352 friends. On mobile now so cant miss marple any further yet. I prefer reading about players from times I knew who the hell they were!

Read streetboys post

Read it but it hasn't been corroborated in any media sources has it?

If so it deeply saddens me that a likeable ex Bees player descended into such a dark place in the twilight of his career. Another human tragedy.

Olafur Gottskalksson

No. I was just answering Hanworth who seemed confused by Greenholme's question.

That article mentioned him moving to Norway and there is an Ólafur Gottskálksson living in the wilds of Norway working as a decorator, might be him?

Cool, cheers. I don't mean to take the piss, I enjoy your updates. :sorted:

Olafur Gottskalksson

Must be some record for us having two former keepers ending up in clink Oli and Peter Barota (RIP)

Does Borata count as an ex Bee?

He only played a couple of friendlies.

Olafur Gottskalksson

You're taking this ex-player stalking very seriously, aren't you?
