The Valley.....that terracing was something else.

Every time we went there we'd fill up the away end and have most of the home end as well.

When you look back at what GP was like and then compare it to some of those grounds on show it makes it even more depressing.

All these other clubs with new grounds, new hope, and optimism.

Makes me :cry:

Then again maybe I should pull myself together and be glad we aren't Southport, Newport AFC or Wimbledon.

Went to Southport in '78

My first "real" away game having only been to Watford before.

All of the Bees were in the home end, most with inflatable clubs and all singing "it im on the ead"

It must be the music as well but that gets me very emotional too. When will people relaise what we have destroyed?
Why is it that the 'greyer' the ground the better?
Eastville - A legend of a place - That's what made English football great. When will somebody not only return The Gas back where they belong but also pump some money into them to turn them back into a force? Look forward to the day when they'll be pissing on City once again. Proper club, proper supporters.........the fear element.
Biggest regret........not going to Leeds Road, the former home of Huddersfield.
Victoria Ground.....another sad loss.

Too late for that now its got a large ikea and tesco built on it.
Will be moving out of current venue at xmas and sharing with swindon.

Police didn't have a scooby what was going on.
Good trip as we won 3-1 in my favourite season ever!:sorted:

Now that WAS an iffy awayday.
We all got pelted with bottles and bricks on the walk from station to ground.
We won 3-1 up there in 78 (second half hat-trick from Steve Phillips) and I have never seen a home "end" empty so quick. Have to say I have never left a ground so quickly either!:eek: :sneakoff:

Yep great season ! Went to newport away in a mark 1 cortina, took bloody ages,( was living in hounslow back then ). Jackie graham scored the winner if i remember rightly.
Brentford travelled in good numbers away in those days, happy days .

Those rose-tinted glasses steaming over you Ricko? Judging by that cine film Eastville was a complete dump and deserved to have Ikea on it!

I was at that one as well as Southport - Leeds Road and the surrounding pubs were very dodgy. It certainly paid to have a Welsh speaking wife in tow with a very sharp tongue - confused the neanderthal locals no end when they asked us what the time was!

I remember Leeds roadf being a huge ground - anybody know what the capacity was?

Jesus - I've had to stop watching them at the moment..the grainy cine film pictures, the sad haunting music, lost and forgotten grounds.. It seriously has put a massive lump in my throat and I feel really tearful..

My brother has memories of that game as well.

Coach windows got bricked in and Bes fans were chased with machetes

Great site - thanks for the links.

Brighton is the one which really gets me mad - Were they sold down the river or what? I don't even like going past the old ground. Shame it is not one of the grounds

And of course shame Griffin Park is not there; but really fascinating all the same

Wow for me that is truly facinsting. I never got to see grounds like those which look far more real and intimerdating than the new ones today. The oldham one has barely changed haha, but the Den looked truly brilliant for intimidation. The old Bristol rovers stadium also looked rather facinating, and the Victoria ground looked like it could still be used now. Makes us appreaciate the older grounds more now like griffin park, boundry park and saltergate for sheer character. Been on the Chesterfield website and it looks like there next for a plain stadium, looks comfortable and safe but sometimes you don't want that at a football match, takes away some of the thrill, i just hope we don't leave gp for a few more years yet ( more than likely ), because this has made me appreaciate the great ground even more

I hadn't realised that last night's play off game was Shrewsburys last game at Gay Meadow. I expect they'll be off to some shiney, plastic, same as every other ground for next season.

Such a shame.

Great inside the actual Stadium..brilliant views, close to the pitch, plenty of legroom but around the concourse...same old sh*te really! Queue for ten minutes for loo's and £5.50 a burger??!! and £3.90 a Pint!!!

The Shrewsbury ground looks like a copy and paste of a completed Bournemouth stadium, what a shame, no creativity what so ever

I used to have a great pic of a tickertape welcome 500 Bees fans gave the team in that covered end at Blackpool.:(

Eastville was always a good ground, better to see the Bees there than at Ashton Gate. I lived in Somerset until 76 and a lot of mates were Rovers & City fans but can always remember going to Newport County too......pity the footage is of a Somerton park looking like something from WW2.

I also played a match at Edgar Street (Hereford) whilst serving at RAF Hereford.......Pre season friendly.......Stuart Payne played for Hereford then and we lost 4-1. I was the unfortunate goalie....he scored 2 goals.

Hence I remained in the RAF :shrug:

Great web page though...........aahhhh. Memories.

Great post, great web site......so many memories.

Plough Lane....the only ground where we always had more fans in the home end than the away end.

Stamford Bridge.....my first ever ground i went to and visited many times, what a sh*t hole though!

The Den....intimidating or what!!? I used to go there as a young lad in the mid to late 70's with my Dad, Uncles and cousins (all lions fans). I felt intimidated then even as a home fan! Virtually every game there was some sort of crowd disturbance or pitch invasion....mental!

Eastville....another total sh*t-hole and quite frightening, no segregation either when i went there a few times.
