Old Threads

Some of my favourite threads are those that I find that haven't been posted on for a number of years. It's interesting to see what people's thoughts were on certain issues back then, compared to these days. Unfortunately, posting a comment on one of these threads seems to be prohibited which seems a shame and a rather strange rule. Surely if a thread is still open a chap is entitled to assume it's OK to post? If not, why not close it in the first place rather than wag a finger at the chap in question?

People's thoughts may have changed over time - it's not generally a great idea drag posts from years back up for scrutiny as they probably have lost context.

Was I wagging a finger at you? I only asked, and said please ...... An alternative if you want though - "mods are worse than Hitler and this site is a joke". That's where we usually end up ......

No that's fine Les. I wasn't having a go or criticising the way you handled it. The 'wagging finger' comment was only meant tongue in cheek. I genuinely wondered why posting on old threads was seen as taboo. Your reason explains this and is fair comment I guess .

Surely posters could stand by their views or justify them ?
Digging up old threads is good fun, but after many infractions, not for me.

Well done Mazz for beating the system :owusu:

Have I? If so, go me! :sorted:. Will you still feel the same way in 2018 though?

Les is against it because he once suggested that all threads should be limited to 20 posts.

....................when will this be classed as an old thread??????.......................

I think it's when my thoughts change .

I believe Les was actually the victim of some careless merging of usernames a few years back

Anyway bumping old threads causing all sorts of confusion for users and is actively discouraged.

Old Threads

Does that mean we won't be able to bump the Raoul Moat thread on his birthday? That thread was GPG gold  If the answer is no then if somebody could bring me some chicken, a can of lager and a fishing rod I'd be most grateful.

Old Threads

You wouldn't be able to bump it :nono: however you could comment on it being his birthday, this would unfortunately have as a unintended consequence the bumping of the thread :(

Questions:

1) There is a thread called 'Questions You Want An Answer To' which hasn't been posted on since 9th January. Is this now considered to be an old thread that must not be bumped?

2) If not, then at what age does it become old please?

3) If I have a question that I want an answer to, but the above is an old thread, then I can't use it. But starting a new one might be deemed a duplicate thread. Where do I stand legally please? :thetruth:

4) Should I actually be asking this here, or should I be using 'Questions You Want An Answer To', or even starting a new thread called 'More Questions You Want An Answer To', or something?

1. Don't know.
2. No idea.
3. I'm no legal expert.
4. Who knows .

Tricky blighters old threads. Not to be trusted. Common sense should apply more often than not I guess.

Old Threads

............well spotted................is this thread old yet????????.............

Old Threads

:bump: Not sure. Use your common sense .

1) No, you are fine to post to this. The rules are arcane and fully understood only to me, but as a general rule of thumb, anything under a year and a half is fine as long as you have paid the appropriate tithes and are current with the vicarage and have not recently been in physical contact with a stoat or otter. Of course this implies you have conversational Latvian and can trace your ancestry back to a minor Norse god and/or the third Duke of Wimbledorne.

2) Do you want the current aged old data or historical average aged old data? Monthly ageing is available by forum but we can't drill down to thread without a data extraction process and for that I need approval from the Forum Ageing Exec Committee who only meet once a decade in a volcano in Sumatra. I could access the new aged old forum reporting system but it is not current. You will have to be more specific and will also need to fill in a project analysis stage 0 business case.

3) The above is not an aged thread so you are fine. Hypothetically were this not the case your legal position would indeed be precarious. I am not qualified to give legal advice in this jurisdiction however our law libraries our furnished extensively with tomes on the Duplicitus Reserructumus Dilemma and access can be arranged via the normal channels.

4) here is fine. We have the magics.
