Surely it would be into the early 70s for the last surviving full eleven? I reckon around 74/5?

Purely a guess, but probably a tiny bit earlier? From memory, the 1972/73 relegation season was the first year after Phillips and Brodie (both sadly departed) stopped monopolising the keeper’s shirt. The last surviving full eleven might well be that season, in any game that Peter Gelson missed. I can’t think of anyone else from that group who has passed away!

May I respectfully suggest that a better wording could be "earliest Brentford team where all players are still alive".

Sorry to be pedantic but I assume the vagueness of words like last and previous can confuse even Artificial Intelligence let alone real intelligence. (eg how many Eagles last tours have there been?}

The oldest I can think of is Mark Lazarus but I am sure there are older.

Poor bloke died whilst taking part in a Charity Run along the seafront at Eastbourne. Eastbourne was his home town and he had played for Eastbourne Utd early in his career.

According to wikipedia Jimmy Belcher is still alive into his 90s. Also Danny O'Donnell is a little bit younger than Mark Lazarus by a couple of months.

This was just from a random search so some of the historians here may have more authorative information.

We are now getting into a time before my dad first took me along to Griffin Park when we were well on the way to our first relegation to the Fourth Division.
