Oldham Athletic

Probably the coldest, most unwelcoming sh*teole of a town in the UK, hope never a reason to visit again.

Oldham Athletic

Wasn't going - but am now as family do up North that night so may as well take in the game ?

Oldham Athletic

you can keep it lol
god, i hate that place.......if theres a better reason for getting out of this division and not having to go there ever again then im yet to hear it ;)

always a good day out in Manchester, i quite enjoy Oldham away

Oldham Athletic

Oldham is probably the least looked-forward to visits in the current L1 and the location of the second-coldest game I've ever been to (a York away was the coldest ever with one Rochdale trip also in the memory). Still, it's got to be done... 2 departing Englefield Green.

Was thinking about going, but then looked at the train distance from the stadium, no thanks

I can't do this one, I hate going there and it takes dedication to midely look forward to this trip. It's sh*t up there, cold and that kid's corner next to us that take the piss all game is bordering on the end of the world. A weekend away for me and Mrs NB is calling.

Do you recall us all on those high fencers and the older chap taking a wallop from a peed off steward who was up for it, there were many Bees doing what they could to get teh culprit until the police advised him to move away, that was pure annoyance by the steward at letting in a last minute winner between two broke clubs desperate for a win IMO.
It was the coldest ever though.

we played em twice in the cup on a plastic pitch, 85 and 91....the 91 game was a top quality turnout.....i think our arrest figures were into double figures that day lol lol

Think they had grass in 85. Memorable trip for me (written up for NorthamptonBee's next volume :sorted:) but I don't recall a plastic pitch.

That was a weekend and a half ! #edinburgh

The plastic pitch made it's debut in 1986.

Great win for you yesterday, shame for us as it will give you a boost going into our game next week.

We played in a similar way to the way we played at Griffin Park.

Really good for 10 minutes. Really poor for 45 minutes. Indifferent for the rest.

But that 10 minutes. WOW!

We have been a bit like that in recent games. Think that is typical of L1 and L2 teams. Hopefully we can return to our pre december form on Saturday, where we have enjoyed long periods of very good play.

You should be favourites to win.

Latics have had seven home wins in 2012 and our midfield two are suspended and off to the African cup of Nations.

Give us a run down on how Baxter has been this season please?

Was grass and freezing cold.Terrace was slippery and we lost 2-1.Remember some boys of theirs meeting us as we left the ground.Chasing them up the road trying to stay on two feet, then we spied an offy and that was that.Carry out for the train home.

A cut above.

Vision, ability and a little bit of panache that you just don't see at this level. Leading scorer too with Pirlo style penalties, close range headers, long range free kicks, Beckhamesque efforts to beat the keeper from the half way line - yet to succeed.

His contract expires after we play you.

There is no way a side with Baxter and Derbyshire playing most games should e worrying about relegation.

Derbyshire's back at Forest now. How's Tom Adeyemi done.

By the way, you can now get a tram from Manchester to Oldham, but it's still a 25 minute walk to the ground from "Freehold" tram station.

Joe, you sound like Bob Hoskins when you post, friendly but sinister and sort of demanding a response.

I won't be there mate because I fecking hate it and can't think of anywhere worse in teh world to watch football, a three sided ground (well sort of) with a line of children slitting their throats at you all game.

Dickov's a good bloke, has a decent rapport with the fans, can attract good players and works his knackers off.

The only problem is he's tactically inept and has failed to win over 70% of his games in charge.

I'd have fired him off by now. I don't think he's got what it takes. But I do genuinely like the bloke. The chairman has taken the view that with the right support Dickov can improve. We'll see. Maybe the rolling contract is expensive to pay off and it's an attempt to get Dickov to walk for free.

Gerry Taggert was said by many to be useless. No idea if he was or not. Lee Duxbury is something of a club legend. His departure looks like money saving to me. Paul Butler is a 25 year old who is taking his coaching badges. He seems to have been the one calling the shots on the touch line during matches. He uses a clipboard to show subs what to do (I assume there's a picture of some goalposts on it). I suspect if I was a professional footballer I'd tell him where to stick his clipboard.

It's a strange situation. But with Tony Philliskirk and Paul Gerrard around I think we'll improve.
