Something must be going the right way behind the scenes as Oli Gott now wants to stay and fight for his place.

Wonder how Paul Smith feels about that? Has got to be good for us to have two class keepers competing for the number 1 spot.

Can we afford to keep Oli though? I thought his wages were way out of our league? Be good to keep in though. I thought he looked in fine form on Wednesday.

Oli Staying

I suspect the real reason he is staying is that no-one else is prepared to match his wages.

You say it's good to keep him, but this may well stop us getting someone else in up front or in midfield where we desperately need some new blood....

Thats a fair point, although the way things are there is no guarantee that the spare money created by not having to pay his wages would go towards players.

It is good to keep hold of Olli, both him and Smith are a class act, hopefully if someone wants them they us good money for them, unlike the bargains we have given away in the past....

Except that he is still available on a free!!!

true, but if he wants to stay hopefully he will work for his place

According to the Ipswich rivals site Oli has turned down the offer of a one year contract with them!!

Interesting that Alan Julian was on the bench on Tuesday though.......

Oli ?

Where is he? not on the Bench Tuesday did not play for the reserves yesterday Believe he was on the Bench last Sat has/is he gone to Stockport:confused:

His shoulder is playing up again. Hope he gets back to full fitness he's a great keeper the best at the club. Also the best in the division. :) :) :)

As I have said in transfer talk, Ipswich Rivals site is stating that he has turned down a 1 year contract with them!!
Is there any truth in this and maybe the real reason he was not on the bench, but in Suffolk in discussions?

Oli Staying

Seems to be some truth in the Ipswich rumour.

Sounds like Oli has got the hump because he things he is being forced out of GP. He must be on some pretty decent money here if he can afford to turn down a first division club.

Much as I like him as a keeper, it would be a lot better for our survival prospects financially if he did go. I'm sure we can cope admirably with Smiffy and Alan Julian.

Take the offer Oli, you know it makes sense!!!!!!

Can't see him dislodging Smith who has started in cracking form, justifiably MOM at Hudders he looked the business again on Tuesday.

If Oli wants first team footie he is going to have to move I suspect otherwise he could be a forgotten man by the time the end of the season is up and he leaves on a Bosman. At his age he does not want to be drifting along in the reserves.
