We’re still top half of the table…
(at least until Chelsea win away at the Cherries today)

Raya - on loan to Arsenal
Jansson - released
Toney - suspended
Henry - injured
Baptiste - injured
JDS - injured

Despite all of the above, the squad we have left is more than capable of competing in the PL and there are still at least 5 teams who will finish below us. We’ve had a couple of big blows. No need to panic.

I’m not exactly sure which thread to put this in - but we need to be more upbeat when others start using statistics to prove their point.

I know this sounds crazy, especially when related to our club who are famous for using them, but it irks me when they are randomly used out of context. For example, I’ve just read on another thread of Wissa’s stats compared to Maupay’s stats. In my view, the use of just the one comparison is not sufficient to realistically compare the two players. You always have to factor in the relevant circumstances and underlying situations.

In my opinion, we know a lot about Wissa as we’ve watched him in every game whereas how many of us have watched each minute of every game that Maupay has played in during the same period so it’s unlikely that we can comment on what exactly happened and the reasons behind the resultant statistical performances. Consequently, in my view, the individual mathematical result doesn’t carry much weight when used in a standalone scenario.

Obviously, our recruiting team have and use the huge amount of data available to them, but they wouldn’t just pick one stat on its own when they are making their comparisons between the players they are studying.

A statistician once told me that you can always use statistics to get the answer you want.

So, in a positive mood (and slightly paradoxical)…

let’s not too engrossed when people start comparing this stat and that stat, especially when they are taken in isolation.

... I’ve just read on another thread of Wissa’s stats compared to Maupay’s stats.
The comparison would work perfectly if both players played the same games with the same other 10 players on the pitch and the same officials in the same weather conditions, though…

Me and Motherwell gave TF a hug at end of game ( he normally comes over bless him ) I jokingly said " we are back Thomas " Gave a little smile.

Think everyone there knew we needed that performance to remind us how good we can be

Win tomorrow and we’ll be:
  • Above Chelsea (still)
  • Above Man Utd
  • Above Fulham
  • Top half
  • Only 4 points from European places
Panic? Not for me, Clive.

After a few hours to recover my thoughts.
Of course, it wasn't so much the result as the ending. But we gave a team of superstars and supersubs a hard game. Our structure on the pitch looks good considering superstars are likely to have lots of possession.
The ending doesn't feel as bad as that QPR game considering the man U squad!
But my main optimistic thought is that with some 6 (plus two more this morning) likely starters or subs missing we still looked organised. And those players who have come in are gaining incredibly valuable match experience which will give us a really solid subs bench as the injured players feed back in.

I just want to give a shoutout to all those who make being part of BFC and visiting the Gtech such a privilege.

Same points tally as this time last season and several of the injured players nearing fitness plus 2 of the B team showing they can be effective off the bench should mean in a months time we are looking much stronger. Add to that the promoted sides not looking particularly strong (plus Bmuff) - we should be well clear of the drop zone come Jan.

Mad when you think about how many players we are missing.

3 wins on the bounce in this league isn’t an easy thing to do.
Even more mad when you realise we could quite comfortably have had another 7 points by beating Spurs, Bournemouth and Man U to no complaints from anyone and now be genuinely in top 4 contention!!! Though I think had we done so we’d now be having to contend with learning how to deal with almost every opponent playing very defensively (cf Smith era streakiness). So we might overall actually benefit from not having quite hit our straps early on and still being seen as a good team but not one that needs to be contained. One of the many pleasing things about yesterday was it was a game where we had 59% possession and were dangerous in attack. That’s the level we’ve gone up this season.

Yeah very pleasing to see such confidence on the ball. We had control of the match. Our understanding and improvement of the 4-3-3 and how to utilise it is clear to see.

West Ham are no mugs and their plan to try and contain us was also clear to see.

The first 20 minutes were a bit squeaky bum but we clearly were inviting them on to play a game of pressing very high up which wasn’t natural to them or suited to their fitness and concentration levels. It could have backfired if they’d got that third goal but didn’t. Even if they had, it’s probable they’d then have sat back and given us the ability to attack more.

Unsure if it's me but I think our three in a row could be due to extra beardage on the pitch.
May be an idea to use movember to our advantage

At the start of this season I wondered how we would cope with the fact that (IMHO) our 2 most important players from last season wouldn't be playing:
Raya
Toney
I was also concerned about how we might cope if Rico got injured.
When that happened, I decided our next most influential player was Jensen.
So to go into a game like last night with our FOUR most important players from last season (IMHO) all missing, (plus numerous other guaranteed starters) and to perform like we did, really does show what an incredible spirit (and talent) we have.
And what a magician TF is to consistently get the best out of what he has at his disposal.

Still top of the bottom, despite last night’s narrow and undeserved defeat by the (now) leaders.
The only team down there with a positive GD.
We actually got nearer to Chelski last night after their tonking up north.

I haven’t seen this thread in the ‘New Posts’ list recently, so here goes…

It’s only been a couple of weeks where we were thinking ahead and anticipating the return of Toney, Schade, Da Silva and others and looking forward to what would be similar to a raft of players coming in during the January transfer window without the expenditure. And who knows what PG has got lined up.

Our injury list is a long one, not unlike several other teams, so I consider it a blessing that we missed out on Europe last season as that would have really put us up against it.

Obviously losing Bryan to injury is very unfortunate and disappointing, but looking at the upcoming fixtures and how they fall in the calendar the team won’t be playing too many games over a short period with only the Wolves (H) and Crystal Palace (A) being the only two played within x3 days on each other so it gives Thomas the opportunity to rest players and work on tactics and routines for those who are now likely to be in the starting lineups: we’ve got Sheffield United this Saturday then a full week to the Aston Villa game then x10 days until the Wolves match. Likewise, a week after the Crystal Palace game is the FA Cup game and then another x2 weeks until we play Forest. Of course, we will likely miss those players selected for the AFCON and Asia Cup and it depends on how successful teams like Nigeria and Iran are whether they play matches throughout the tournament, but we’re not the only team losing players to these competitions.

We’ve also got a significant number of points on the board already, which is another positive, so it’s not as bad as our first PL season when we lost Raya to injury and went on a poor run of form then.

We also know that we have a squad full of talented, versatile players who all, in their own way, give Thomas a number of different solutions should they be called upon.

We can go to Sheffield on Saturday knowing that it won’t be easy, we will have to compete, but we’ve seen signs from all the players that have been playing recently that they all know what Thomas wants. All being well, we will have more possession in this game, as opposed to last night at Brighton, and that’s where we can succeed and take the game to the opposition and pick up more points.

Keep the faith, Bees fans. COYB’s

We’ve actually got very few games between now and the end of January and we will definitely pick up points looking at the fixture list over that time.

Starting team at home to Forest (only four league games beforehand) could be:
Flekken
Hickey

Ayer
Jensen
Noorgard
Janelt / Damsgaard
Toney
Schade

And Bryan could be fit again too.
