I don't think that, heaven forbid, there is an incident the first thing the authorities will think is 'Doh! How stupid do we feel now inviting her?'

The whole spectacle was fantastic and everyone, particularly Danny Boyle, should give themselves a huge pat on the back.

As others have said the inane, crass and patronising BBC commentators were the only low point. The lowest of which was "... and here come the Rhwandans, reknowed now for their cycling and not for genocide" I ask you!!!!!

If you don't think that was the most PC of events, then perhaps you should get back to reading the Guardian.;)

Bringing Chakrabarti in was the icing on the PC cake. There are much more deserving cases than her.

It was a brilliant event, with some really good historical and comic scenes, but some of the PCness was OTT.

I wasn't too comfortable bringing Ali in, he looked totally lost.

I think they were concerned not to take it too far because of the overall health of the daily mail readers. Personally I thought the ceremony wasn't left wing enough.... The industry scene was quietly taken down, whereas it should've been dismantled by a Thatcher lookalike with a sledgehammer.

The Daily Mail's dig at Grime music was ridiculous. Whether you like it or not a. this is being held in east London and b. Grime music has offered a platform to a lot of mainstream artists and rappers now, it's very much apart of the countries very recent musical history. Maybe Dizzee Rascal's Bonkers wasn't the best song to go with seeing as it wasn't anything to do with the genre, but then again the genre really isn't to everyone's liking so just having an artist born out of it who has done so well for himself across the country and in Europe was enough.

That Boyle fella must be a cross between a total genius and a total fruit cake. How anyone can anyone think up those sort of ideas is beyond me? Totally amazing.
I thought that Harry Enfield was great and good to see the inventor of the World Wide Web get a mention. After all, that Brunel geezer only erected a few bridges whilst the world web web geezer brought animal porn into every teenagers bedroom at the flick of a button.
Good to see all the nations come in one by one. Makes you realise what a wonderful achievement it must be to actually qualify for 99% of those people. Chris Hoy held the flag so high and proud for GB.
Really proud that the opening ceremony wasn't an OCD persons dream with perfect right angles and computer generated fireworks taking the spotlight. A proud night.
Loved Dizze Rascal, Macca wasn't at his best but is an absolute legend.
Was I the only person that thought the German official made a nazi sign though? Must have been the camera angle surely.

Exactlty. The younger generation listen to all kinds of music, but with garage / grime it originated from East London. Dizzee Rascal, Tinnie Tempah, Wretch 32, Lethal B are known over the world and loved by many of our younger generation. If these artists werent given a chance they would still be on the streets of London causing havoc. These guy are more mainstream and have made it while others refuse to go make pop/chart songs.

Ok Shami Chakrabarti who has as many members of the association she heads as an average premier football team.However it didn't change my opinion that this was a fantastic spectical that like others have said made me proud of the history of my country.well done Mr Boyle must have had some wonderfull blow to help creat that masterpiece.

I've no idea why I felt like I needed to comment on it, the fact that that paper doesn't want to support a big thing that has given a lot of young talented black kids a platform to succeed in really isn't surprising at all.

Obviously not, but Grime was born out of an area that has been disregarded but he government for so many years, an area with more social problems than should be there as we all know, so for a lot of aspiring artists it's a way out of their estates and has served a lot of them well.

I saw it and was shouting "he can't do that". Wife said, "what, he was only swatting a fly". She never makes me laugh so that was a first, she just didnt realise how funny it was.

Best part is watching it again on you tube and seeing Boris and Camilla in the background pissing themselves laughing.

I managed to avoid most of it. When the 10 0'clock news got too full of it I switched to a repeat documentary about Thin Lizzy on BBC4.
