Ref was poor but we have to look at ourselves & the last two matches has shown that we are not good enough & we will end up mid table again if we are not careful. I know we are third at the moment but we look a spent force & i can only see a downward trend

Oh dear Lord lol Now there is one knee jerk reaction

Orient Match Reports

I am convinced that the ref was not going to take any action until he realised it was Bidwell. It seemed to dawn on him that he'd booked him already so he went for his card.

that second was a foul but never a booking, disgraceful decision.he definately wanted some limelight when he realised it was Bidwell.that ref was an absolute disgrace. But our performance was so bad its hard to use it in our defence

Orient Match Reports

When you go down to 10 men, the subs are the key to the game. We got it right at Colchester. The question is do you go on the back foot or the front foot. We were under the cosh when logan came on, I do wonder what would of happened if Harry would of came on then. Push them back maybe doubled up on him. Who would be a football manager... You live and die by your decisions. Thin lines! One thing I do know is there's no point feeling sorry for yourself and we seem to be doing that a lot lately. Just farking get on with it. Onwards and upwards and let's get this bloody chelsea game out the way so we can get promotion.

Orient Match Reports

Ref was poor obviously but we didn't perform as we know we can and again struggled to win a game that was there for the taking. Feel for Jake but they were silly bookings and when you give a ref like that the opportunity to make an impact he will take it!

Even when we went down to ten I thought we had enough to see it out but we withdrew entirely and sat deeper and deeper. To their credit they really came at us but we invited the pressure and gave them very little to worry about with Clayton chasing on his own.

I thought Adeyemi was very poor tonight. I like his strength and energy but feel Kiernan is technically far better and struggle to see why he us not getting game time at home where his composure and passing would help us to control games.

We need to get Sunday out of the way, bring in a fresh face or two and refocus. 1 point from 2 home games is simply not good enough.

We'll make playoffs at least, we've been superb at times this season and outplayed alot of the teams around us. Get this cup game out of the way, 1 or 2 new players in and with a less hectic schedule we'll be back to our best

Ref was sh*t, we weren't very good bar Moore, they were dire and we had no outlet whatsoever with 10 men, CD is a potent weapon and we needed Harry near him IMO. That said, I thought we'd hold on as they were woeful, such a shame that we've fecked up in two home games before the day out v Chelsea.

Orient Match Reports

That's a bit harsh, maybe he could have not made the tackle that got him sent off, but 9 our of 10 refs wouldn't have produced a card for it, especially considering he was already on one.

Bidwell has been a strong, reliable performer for us for over a year now, and the Chelsea game is something he deserves for the effort he's put into a club he's been merely on loan to. I feel for him tonight.

Yes it's harsh but the sooner this distraction vs Chelsea is over the better.

Orient Match Reports

Feel sorry for Bidwell, but he gave the ref two opportunities to book him and he took them. Kick the ball away, most people get booked. Get mugged and pull him back, some people get booked.
We were really poor tonight all over the pitch, Cook absolutely destroyed us in all honesty - but we still should have won. The two centre backs are like a rollercoaster, clean sheet after clean sheet then look like anyone could wander on and score.

When we get the basics right, we can really turn it on but usually you can tell in the first 15 minutes what Brentford side has turned up.

Ref was an absolute disgrace, blatant handball for penalty (how did the lino not see it?) - blatant corner, never a throw in when Donaldson was tearing down the line. Asked their full back to go back and take the throw from a few yards back, who decides to throw it backwards. which you still can't do! If the ref is going to be rubbish at least be consistently rubbish - He was getting overrun and was never in a good position to assist us, or give us the fair share of decisions. Beyond words.

Orient Match Reports

Lets face it we needed tonights game like Tescos need another delivery of horse meat.

After a pretty glaring miss by Forshaw inside the first 40 seconds the game settled down into a pretty drab affair and when Rowlands scored with an absolute screamer of a freekick the bad vibe I had before the game seemed fully justified.

We didn't create many (if any)chances from open play but still managed to go in 2 - 1 up at half time courtesy of 2 similar goals from corners with Hayes and then Clayton profiting (the second one despite strong appeals for a foul on the keeper from the O's which looked justified). The goals did little to improve our confidence or passing and Orient were well in the game at HT.

We started a little better and in the opening 15 mins were on top with Clayton bringing an excellent save out of their keeper...then came the sending off and despite having huge sympathy for Jake he was pretty silly to make the challenge he did in the knowledge that he was already on a yellow but he'll learn and its easy to forget how young he is.
I thought Uwe reorganised things pretty well , I was along way away from the penalty decision and it looked soft from where I was but others may have had a better view but Moore made an outstanding save and it looked like we might see the game out , but we gave Lee Cook too much space and he showed his quality with a good strike.
The referee was poor undoubtedly but in the same way that recently I never thought we would lose games I never felt confident we would win tonight , even with 11 men, thats just the way football goes sometimes .
The number of games recently , the distraction of the Chelsea game and the difficulty of keeping young players consistently at their best is taking its toll and perhaps some of that chelsea money needs to be spent on bringing in a couple of new faces to give us a boost.
Keep the faith this is the best season for years and whilst I suspect our 'blip' may not be over just yet we can still be aiming for top 2 idc with the playoffs a better option than in years gone by for 'new' Brentford.

Orient Match Reports

Gutted for the guys today , most put in a good stint but were not rewarded thanks to the ref
Looking forward to Sunday perhaps we can have a ref who doesn't like premiershite

Helped with ground covers at the end, walked past Rowlands and didn't deck him, shame on me.........what a little whimp he is (good free kick) .........did I say that?

Orient Match Reports

The referee had a stinker tonight and there's no need to comment further, but once again we contributed to our own downfall. We gave away a goal by Moore's strange positioning - standing on the wall side of goal - a gift. We gave away a silly yellow card by kicking the ball away (Bidwell's foolishness) and then cursed when he tugged a player unnecessarily and collected the red. We didn't close down on the player outside the area and allowed the shot for the second goal. We didn't play our strongest team for a league game because of the Chelsea distraction at the weekend and we didn't play very well either. I really hope there's another striker coming in before the transfer window ends as two of our three strikers aren't good enough and it's showing. Don't howl about negativity, just look at the last five league results - D, L, W, D, D,

It's been the only performance in a fair few games now, I would have taken an iffy win but with 11 v 11 I think we would have got a fairly comfortable one, we're not firing bar last Tuesday.

Orient Match Reports

unfortunately the truth hurts we are not good enough

If you honestly believe that to be the truth then you're either mental or you don't see us very often. We're one of, if not THE best side in this division who are currently experiencing a slight dip in form. That is the truth.

Orient Match Reports

My views on the referee are on another thread.

Assessing OUR own performance, I didn't think we were too bad this evening. Uwe went with a brave starting XI, Saunders and Hayes coming in with Forrester (as predicted) and Trotta dropped. Don't know what Dallas needs to do, thought we could have done with his pace.

Forshaw should have scored early on. After that you could tell it was going to be a difficult evening. And it was.

Rowlands scores a peach and celebrates like a royal c***. However we did well to respond so quickly. Two scrappy finished from Saunders' corners. Not goals which you would normally associate with #newbrentford but I thought everything would be okay from then on.

Second half ref took over.

Gutted :(

Take the Southend performance out and we've been ordinary and looked a bit jaded for long spells in most
games during December. However, bar Tranmere who only had 2 or 3 chances, 2 of which we gifted them we're not losing games despite the fact we're definitely troughing at the moment. Get the cup game out of the way, add a couple of fresh faces before the next league game, play the two forwards closer together and we'll be fine.

Orient Match Reports

I'm glad Bidwell was reportedly seen crying.

His stupidity ultimately cost us two points.

Hopefully he'll learn from tonight and by missing Sunday.

Stood with him for about ten minutes and he was very distraught.
Also bitching about the referee and his apparent lack of skill..
I told him he had to have some skill to have lack of it.. he was worse than useless...

Orient Match Reports

We were poor tonight end of. I agree that as much as Im looking forward to taking on Chelsea we didnt need it this year... Don't normally comment on referees but he was a joke tonight. Rowlands proved what he can still do on the pitch but what a grade one tool. Deserved decking tonight for his celebration and winding up.. a complete baby and shows no class. Thought Orient looked the better side which shows how off form we were... a really miserable night, awful game, terrible crowd but at least we take more away to the likes of Oldham on a tuesday than Orient brought tonight... what a joke club they are.

Earlier in the season, you complained that we couldn't close out matches, despite performing OK.

Now we go on a run of one defeat in 19 matches, and you point out that our performances haven't been good lately.

As I see it, after a sluggish start to the season, the team built up momentum as Xmas/New Year drew near, arguably reaching a peak against MK Dons (8th Dec). Since then we've dipped a little bit, yet still managed 5 wins, 4 draws and 1 defeat (against Lge Leaders) in the succeeding 10 games .

If you look at the Table, we remain firmly on course for a Play-Off spot, possibly better, which imo represents clear, consistent and undeniable progress in the 2 1/2 years since UR took over.

In case it has escaped your notice, we're nearing the end of a very long month for people who have had to carry significant expenditure the month before in the middle of one of the longest recessions in recent memory. We've had more games than usual in January and many people are struggling to find the money to attend them all. Quite why that should continue to baffle you is beyond my comprehension quite honestly.

I don't get your point, the poster has pointed out that we've only played really well once in the last few games and I'm sure a lot will agree with him. He's not criticising but stating what he believes, isn't that what this forum is for?

For what it's worth we're not playing very well in the
league but cause for optimism as despite not being
anywhere near our best of late we've still only lost one
in 14. Given that was largely down to 2 defensive howlers I'm confident that we can get back on track and start another winning run once the cup game is out of the way.

Orient Match Reports

Poor performance and will be glad when Sumday has come and gone as it certainly seems the Chelsea game is effecting our play. No doubt Rosler is scratching his head as we seem to have totally forgotten the football that has got us to this position

Felt Dean, Moore, Craig and Hudson were the standout players for us, Clayton and Forshaw were a bit below their normal standards and also felt Hayes had another decent performance

The sending off of Jake may have given the manager one less headache as he has been below par for a few weeks and if it wasn't for a fine save by Simon would have capped his night with a stunning own goal!!!

Ref seemed determined to keep his rum of never giving us a win with a totally inept performance which fitted into the category of cheating however nothing we can do about it

Finally having read the thread regarding long standing fans wanting tickets and all saying they come every week, well that was an embarrassing crowd

Orient Match Reports

Below par all over the pitch but Orient and ref still couldn't beat our ten men. We would (probably) have been 3-1 up if ref had given the blatant handball

Bidwells sending off was silly but in context of other unpunished offences in game it was an awful red to give.

Results haven't gone our way in two games we could have won and some supporters are heading for the panic button. I hope the team don't do the same

That said we are where we are in the league because Harry gives us an edge. Without that edge we aren't the same force

Orient Match Reports

And I agreed that we're having a dip in form. To suggest though that that poor run will continue long enough to see us suddenly drop into mid table belies the quality we're seen previously and is just undue negativity off the back of a couple of below par performances IMO. Every team has a blip during the course of the season.

Orient Match Reports

I really hope that it is only a blip but when i see a below average team like orient outplay us for long periods i am concerned for the rest of the season

Orient Match Reports

The referee may have had an unbelievable game but we were poor. Mooney showed Orient very early on that the ref could be fooled with falling over when touched and it seemed to infect the game. Some of the decisions were downright bizarre and giving a throw-in, after blowing to give a foul against Clayton which he realised was never a foul, was just embarrassing. Nevertheless, we were never really in it and the ref's show and two scruffy goals masked our shortcomings.

There was little attacking threat and Donaldson couldn't blame the pitch all over for his inability to control the ball. Hayes made some neat flicks... to no-one, and might as well have not been there. Saunders is just not good enough; we're unable to carry a dead ball specialist, Forshaw worked hard but needs to work harder on his shooting and Adeyemi was a ghost. Douglas seemed to be very nervous and wanted an extra touch all the time. You can't give experienced players all the time we did and not expect to get punished. All-in-all the defence was put under a lot of pressure not being able to hold the ball up in front of them and, while Hodson had a decent game, together with Dean and Craig who weren't bad, Bidwell is looking tired and out of sorts; he deserved what he got. Moore's penalty save was a saving grace.

The squad desperately need reinforcing and we need a bit of a clear out; there's money coming in from the FA Cup and it needs to be used wisely.

Orient Match Reports

Just seen the goals on SSN....Shame on you Charlie Macdonald...!!...an outrageous dive , Hodson was nowhere near him and Simons save was absolute justice all Macdonald deserved was a yellow for a dive but no chance of that with the ref tonight....Also TV confirmed that both Orients goals were (sad to admit)really outstanding strikes which a few weeks ago when things were going more our way would probably have sailed harmlessly over the bar.
Keep the faith the panic mongers on here really do make me laugh.

Orient Match Reports

What gets me is that after our second goal their keeper and a defender or two ran upto the referee and screamed and shouted at him. He appeared to book one of them but according to the BBC he didn't. I honestly thought he went to his pocket. The keeper ran about 15-20 yards to moan at him! That in itself is a bookable offence.
Then to push the ball boy in the second half he should have been at least had a word with but nothing. When I say at least, again, its a bookable offence.
The referee was just a joke and its bad that the reports on here are all dictated about him.

Orient Match Reports

I really hope that it is only a blip but when i see a below average team like orient outplay us for long periods i am concerned for the rest of the season

They Didnt outplay for long periods, they are dogshit,we were no better

Orient Match Reports

Shocking referee performance, acted like a kid who wanted everyone to notice he was there. Bidwell's second yellow was absolutely never a yellow, I fail to see how/why he thought that merited a sending off.

Haven't read the rest of the thread so far but I'm surprised at the first few posts suggesting Jake was harshly treated. The ref was truly atrocious, one of the most inept refereeing performances I can recall, but he got the sending off right - or at least the second yellow. It was right in front of me and Bidwell pulled the Orient player back. Clear yellow, no arguments. It's been a bad few days for him.

It's true that we seemed to be in control of the game at that point but we shouldn't let the refs incompetence hide our own deficiencies. The first half performance in particular was awful. It was as if we were rocked back by Forshaw missing that sitter inside the first 30 seconds. We just couldn't retain possession. There was no composure or confidence and the midfield were completely out battled. Douglas was energetic but too often seemed rushed and lacked his normal control, Forshaw had, by his own high standards, an off day, Sam contributed nothing other than from free kicks and Adeyemi was just completely anonymous. For me he isn't an upgrade on Toumani. Which is disappointing because we need one. Or at least, we need an an upgrade on the 2 poor games in 3 version of Toumani.

I had hoped this game would be postponed. The vibes were just too bad. The focus on Chelsea, a tiny crowd on a freezing Tuesday night and the home team dominance in this fixture just waiting to be broken. Unfortunately it was all that and more. After Jake's rush of blood upset the control we were just beginning to establish, there was an air of utter inevitability about the equaliser. By the end, with only two attack minded players on the pitch we were clinging on for the point. I can't wait for the cup to be out of the way now.

Orient Match Reports

I really hope that it is only a blip but when i see a below average team like orient outplay us for long periods i am concerned for the rest of the season

At no point did I see Orient outplay us, even when they had all the possession when we were down to 9 and a half men towards he end. At 2-1, I honestly could only see one winner. I accept we weren't great tonight but you seem to be stretching the facts a bit to suit your point.

Orient Match Reports

Beat me to it.all he ****ing did tonight was dive for that penalty.he should have been booked for it,such an unconvincing dive

Orient Match Reports

Calm down chaps we're still going up, roll on 3 points at Yeovil

Orient Match Reports

Poor first half performance I thought, we seemed to allow Orient to have a lot of the ball. Felt there was too much distance between Hayes and Donaldson all night whereas last week against Southend they seemed to be much closer together and linked up much better. I thought Saunders put in a good shift, his deadball delivery is excellent as we know but he covered a lot of ground tonight and looked lively.

Just seen the penalty again on Sky and looked like Charlie was looking for a penalty, there wasn't much of a touch if any on him and he didn't seem to appeal when he went over, great save by Moore though! Sending off was a poor decision, not a yellow card offence and certainly not given a number of challenges that went unpunished. What do we do for left back now on Sunday, I think I would go for Barron (not ideal) rather than split up the Dean/Craig partnership, I think (but maybe wrong) that Hodson can also fill in at left back so he may be an option.

If anyone was in any doubt about Mr Rowlands they can't be after tonight, what a tw*t.

Things could be better but the league table still looks pretty good to me, Back in August I would have taken 3rd in the league towards the end of January and a 4th round FA cup match against Chelsea.
